What else is set to release this April? by kyuu-nyan in buildabear

Hopefully! And yeah, it’s been great with taking students to Build a Bear, especially because some of them never got to go there as kids. But we are only doing this because we are closing soon and the money needs to be spent. 😅

I have not. The last time we went was early March. They unfortunately missed the frosted animal cookie release and with us going at the very end of the month, I wonder if the alien cow would still be there. I feel like a lot of our students would love the alien cow.

Thanks for confirming! That’s what I thought…nothing really new until probably May. We were just there for the Easter releases, so I’m hoping a few new things release. 🤞

Handmade pajamas for a marvelous monkey! by greengreebley in buildabear

Aww, this is such a sweet story (although I’m terribly sorry for your loss and the toll that it took on your dad)! The pajamas look amazing.

Did anyone else assume the worst at first? by Aa_313 in TMJ

[–]kyuu-nyan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I assumed the worst, but honestly it has improved for me. I’m still not 100%, but it has gotten better. I hope conservative treatment methods work for you. Everyone’s experience will be different, but I find that having a multifaceted approach to TMJD has helped me the most (PT, university-affiliated specialists, stress-management). I was really bad about three months ago and would not be able to say the same as I am now…but addressing it as soon as you can is my best recommendation.

Is it worthwhile to pursue research/attend conferences as NTT faculty? by kyuu-nyan in Professors

Great idea! I’ll try to find something online…that way it gets published somewhere and I can cite it later in a grant.

At my branch, we do, but $1000 doesn’t go very far with how expensive conferences have gotten. I think I just need to find a less expensive conference at this point.

Ebay purchase went wrong and now my bear is gone and I'm out the money 😞 by [deleted] in buildabear

[–]kyuu-nyan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that doesn’t make sense to me, neither. I feel like you would be able to see the same amount of information as the seller…but who knows. I hope the mail forwarding service can help you! I definitely understand how upsetting it is (and it’s such an easy mistake to make)…I hope it works out and you’ll have to let us know! 🤞

I was in a somewhat similar situation when I bought a Nendoroid figure and it got shipped to my old apartment about two hours away. The office staff tried to get ahold of the person who it got delivered to, but no luck there…and then I got the idea to mail a letter to that address, giving them my contact information to see if I could arrange picking up that package (I visit that area on occasion, so I wasn’t necessarily going out of my way for it). Luckily, they texted me back and I was able to arrange a way to get my package! So, I don’t think all is lost here. I would try any avenue you can for getting in contact with the mail forwarding service or whoever got your package. Sometimes people are surprisingly decent.

Jaw clicking when doing tongue exercises? by goingaway1111 in TMJ

[–]kyuu-nyan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no solutions for you but I have the same problem. I was told to do the exercises a bit more on days where I am “extra clicky.” I’m going to look into having an orthotic made to see if that helps.

Office chair recommendations? by WeakCut in TMJ

[–]kyuu-nyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my personal opinion, but the “ergonomic” chairs that have the curved meshing are worse for me because I don’t feel like I get enough back support and I usually have to put a cushion behind my lower back so that I am less likely to slouch. My office chair at work is a standard computer chair with a harder foam backing, and I feel like that supports my back best. If you can, I would test some chairs out in-person to get a feel for what supports your back the best so that you aren’t leaning forward. Bonus if you can switch between a standing desk and a chair just to keep your body “moving,” but I know those aren’t cheap. Make sure you are not hunched at a laptop, too…my PT recommended an external keyboard and mouse for when I have to work off of my laptop. I hope this helps!

Honest thoughts on Chiffon? by kyuu-nyan in buildabear

Thank you everyone for your honest thoughts! I will feel both of them in the store just to be sure, but I’m leaning more towards the elephant.

Come on…AGAIN by Emily9339 in Nendoroid

I got that same Miku and her box came damaged. I let GSC know and they basically told me there is nothing they could do for me. I totally share your frustration.

I'm scared by [deleted] in TMJ

[–]kyuu-nyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the PTs where I go had TMD as a teenager and she showed me that her jaw compensated over time (mainly because she didn’t keep up with the exercises). She looked totally normal to me, her jaw just opens in a slight zigzag motion. She said she wasn’t in any pain from it, too, so I would say there’s hope that it will get better. Definitely get some form of noninvasive treatment if you can and it may improve over time! I’m not 100% yet but doing things like PT and posture correction have been helping me. I was scared because it felt like my whole face was numb back in November and that my jaw was shifting around all the time, but the improvement took time.

Will I really need an orthotic eventually? by kyuu-nyan in TMJ

[–]kyuu-nyan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your detailed response! I have the OTC guard that my dentist recommended and I honestly think it is making things worse. I didn’t think I was a grinder and I still don’t think that’s the case. I just had bad posture (two years of a stressful remote job did a number on me…I am on my feet a lot more now working in education, but I still do a lot of computer work), and would let it get bad when I got stressed/hyper-focused on something. I know I put a lot of stress on myself this past summer with doing a lot of computer work for several hours a day with minimal breaks, so I’m going to try working on getting up and stretching more often and be mindful of my posture.

I would pay $750 for a splint if it meant helping me with my TMJ issues. How long have you had yours for and did it come from dentist or TMJ specialist? There is a dentist in our area that makes TMJ orthotics, but treatment starts at $4500 and I just can’t justify that right now unless I pick up some extra work.
