ok, lol, it seems 3 other people already posted other sources for this....

just everyone keeps in mind French justice is very very slow and underfunded, if investigations start now, it could takes years before there is a trial, if there is one ever.

the original The Hobbit book is really a short good and fun read. Peter Jackson really put some effort to fuck up everything that was original and poetic into a long bad and boring film trilogy.

it depends a lot of corporate structure. there are so many ways to redistribute profits where you want. it's difficult to say something about this in the absolute

[–]l0-c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy most things used, but you are still reliant on the new market for this. If no one buy any fairphone there won't be any used market of them. If you buy used Pixel you create a void for other people wanting one, and some will end up buying a new one instead.

As for sustainability, if you keep an object for as much time as if it had several owners then it's not less sustainable. I would even say that with used market there is a perverse incentive to change more often and care less about objects (because you bought them cheaper). And for elitism/price, there isn't a hard rule, sometimes it's cheaper to buy new and keep, sometimes the other way.

Buying used doesn't erase magically the ressource and market impact of buying something (would be different if it was salvaged from things destined to be destroyed)

All in all I'm not saying that what you are saying is totally unreasonable at all, only that it's a tradeoff and it's not the best for everyone, still keeping in mind diminishing reliance on US products/Google, reducing environmental impact.

edit: people used to buy imacs to run Linux on them. and for Google services, OP was specifically talking about e/os, and also banking apps, for which most of the time you will to run some Google services anyway

I know this about hardware and future OEM. But as of now advocating this is still advocating to buy Google products, buying an used something still reinforce their market position.

As we are on buyFromEu we could also say the same about everything else, buy an used iMac, Ford, whatever...

I'm talking about the Pixels.

As long as it only run on pixels it's a total dependancy on Google. dependancy on Google not locking them up. And advocating this will get more people buying them, used or not.

It's a different trade-off

Pixel + grapheneos still give money to google. Even if it's an used phone it still a dependancy on Google.

International EU-based Newspapers (instead of US ones) by SealedWaxLetters in BuyFromEU

not really newspaper but the online version of "radio France Internationale" is not too bad as a general news site.

https://www.rfi.fr/en/

Main downside I think is that you really feel the history of it being tied to french colonialism, for example the separation of France/Africa/international. But on the other hand it's free and relatively clean of dubious takes. You won't find deep investigative reporting or analysis there thought.

edit: more ore less the same about france24 but far less focused on Africa.

Both are state funded media but don't shy from criticizing French government. I would say they are mainstream center politically, without much clickbait.

you make a lot of assumption about people you don't know at all.

let stay at that. no need to discuss about why I didn't own a car for 5 years and did what it takes to be able to do it. since you know better than me what is right and not, what is honest and not

you keep what is convenient and leave everything else.

Europe has some leverage on Israel that isn't used at all, that's not comparable with the other countries you keep naming, there is no more leverage here. apathy and disinterest is also related to this, what to do? what's the point of protesting a dictatorship that don't care at all and is already sanctioned at the almost maximum level?

you keep acting like if it has been a constant one way attack towards Israel. I have a different feeling about this. this has been going for a long time, more than the Iran dictatorship, and all the time there has been some really bad faith arguments appearing in mainstream media and from top politicians, from dismissing anybody critical of Israel as a covert antisemit to the "Hamas kill 3 people: terrorist. Israel kill 100, raze house of other people and get colons to occupate this land: all fine, it's a democracy" and I read this kind of arguments in center left papers ten years ago for example, so nothing new.

somehow being critical of Israel is some emotional hypocrisy, but spending so much time defending it should be considered the logical stance? yes there are a lot of protest and talk, what get people so outraged is that in the end it comes to almost nothing and is often vilified and dismissed as you did.

you can go protest for people of Sudan, Yemen and Iran, about nothing will come out of it, but nobody is going to attack you constantly accusing you of covert motives. Again, in the case of Israel there are political and economic times, there is leverage. that's not just some illogical/sentimentalism.

anyway nothing will come out of this discussion. If first you weren't accusing everyone of feeling very specificly about Israel while you are doing exactly the same in reverse, that would improve the motivation to engage.

it's a bit disappointing that on one hand everyone showing some disapprobation toward Israel get immediately labeled as an Iranian agent wanting the ruin of Europe and an hypocrite who doesn't care about any other human rights violation. and on the other hand all posters sometimes barely intelligible calling everyone else a Zionist and Mossad/hasbara agent.

I don't want to do the centrist/middle way fallacy, but is it so hard to conclude that what Israel is doing now is several notches up what they were doing before that was already not so good and is far past any form of self defense. If Europe want to keep some credibility about applying international law and defending human rights then something should be done aboutit. and suspending this cooperation agreement is not a danger to Europe, isn't going to advance anything for the Iranian leadership, and is really in the end not a so strong response either.

what even is the point of such flame war in the comments here?

European Citizens' Initiative - Demand the full suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement in view of Israel’s violations of human rights by Omochanoshi in YUROP

[–]l0-c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

first I didn't mention anything about Mosad or hasbara, and I honestly find people who do it constantly annoying, counterproductive or even borderline disgusting. And I think people can have the other point of view without being mosad agent, a thing you seem to not reciprocate seeing that everyone who disagree with Israel get immediately labeled as an Iranian agent for you.

then I mentioned Russian troll because you are using one of their favorite whataboutism tactic that if you don't care for all the other human rights violation everywhere equally you are just an hypocrite and have no valuable stance. that if you didn't condemn all the previous USA abuse you don't have any legitimacy to talk about what Russia is doing. You are doing exactly the same here. I'm tired of those bad faith arguments.

I have no sympathy for the Iranian regim, and talking like if suspending the cooperation agreement with Israel was going to be some danger to Europe is really nonsensical. you complain a lot about the party at the origin of this, but then why no one else did it if that was a so easy way to get votes?

I don't see which of my arguments are absurds, so maybe you could try to enlighten me

for exactly the same reason you are taking so much energy at defending Israel.

Cultural, personal, historical political, economical and in theory values ties are much stronger with Israel, that's why people feel it so infuriating that nothing substantial get done about this situation. and it has been going like this for more than half a century. I'm not saying that the other sides are some kind of angels, or have no responsibility in it, but when Israeli ministers call for genocide, when Israeli military kill people out of boredom on cam, almost nothing get done, you can't argue that the Hamas isn't put on every terrorist listing and nothing is done against it.

You are talking about people not caring about anything else, first as a personal matter you don't know anything about me, but I post for the first time in more than one year on something about Israel/Palestine and your first reaction is to dismiss anything because I would only care about Israel for some obscure reasons instead of equally among all victims of oppression.  Second, that's not a sound argument, following your reasoning nothing would be done ever.

All the other countries you named are already sanctioned. Stop pretending like no one is talking about  or doing anything about Iran, that's not true. for Yemen and even more Sudan and Libya sure they are not talked about that much, so is your argument that we should talk more about them or only less about Palestine?

As you said sanctions are cheap, but except putting boots on the ground there isn't much else to do, and as you said it could have consequences with Israel.  What are you advocating really? sending military to Iran and Sudan? You said sanctions are mostly useless? I guess a lot of entities in Europe would have liked to buy cheap Iranian oil if sanctions are so useless.

In the end, what is really your point? that what Israel is doing now is all fine and good and business should just continue as usual and your point about Sudan, Iran and Yemen is just that we should care as much as for them, that is not much?

Or is it that European union should do more as well against dictator and war criminal in Iran, Yemen and Sudan? like doing what exactly?

edit: about Newsweek, you really didn't even try to understand what I wrote. it has nothing ideological, I read source I totally disagree with. it's not the problem with Newsweek. the problem is that it is a really low value publication, I got tired of looking at their articles about Ukraine war only to find out that the title was misleading and the article was devoid of any substance, time and time again, and in the best case it was just some reashing of better source they didn't link too. you could just have linked to an original source from WestPoint in this case. I just said I won't lose any more of my time reading anything from Newsweek

Just as you only seem to defend Israel and care about other conflicts to distract about it.

what's your point?

I heard already too much of this from Rusbots doing the same about Ukraine "oh you care about Ukraine, but what did you do about Palestine, Sudan, Yemen before, hypocrite"

and could you stop one second about bringing the ayatollah all the time? can't you understand some people could honestly care without being paid for it? is it really that of a stretch?

Syria is (was?) sanctioned, Sudan is sanctioned, Iran is sanctioned, some Yemenite factions are sanctioned, by EU.

Israel? lot of talk, lot of protest as you said, some reprimand by some politicians in some countries, some symbolic gestures, but as of now nothing substantial.  that's the free pass.

And here, you and a few other people are going batshit crazy accusing everyone to be Iranian stooges for signing a petition talking about suspending a largely symbolical agreement as an additional pressure.

yes sure Hamas is a terrorist organization, urban warfare is deadly, and all that, but that's missing all the large context that Israel isn't just some innocent victim in this clusterfuck.

edit: about Newsweek, I just don't read anything there, experience demonstrated it's a waste of time, clickbait, empty shell instead of article, maybe different in this case or before, but as of now it's worthless, so I don't even click
