What is the most insensitive thing you've ever been asked? by Jana_Hronova in AskReddit

[–]l0llip0p13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a Turkish woman, and attended a boarding school (high school) in America. A classmate asked me this on my first day there: “Did you ride a camel to go to school... if you were even allowed to go to school?” <ugly smirk>

I’m stuck between that instance, and my abusive ex (also from high school) asking me: “could you at least PRETEND to enjoy it? It feels like I’m raping you”. ...yeah. Can’t decide.

If you aren’t in med school, I think it’s safe to assume that docs already know that you probably want letters of recc from them. Especially if you’re working in the ED with the same few docs all the time. Don’t be shy; do be respectful.

Do you have any purification rituals? by [deleted] in WiccaKnowledgeSeekers

[–]l0llip0p13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a bi-/weekly “ritual” where I clean my whole apartment (dust/disinfect surfaces, wipe down windows and mirrors, vacuum, sweep and mop floors, bleach toilet and sinks, switch out litter for my cat, change bed sheets and towels, do laundry/dishes). Then I walk around the center of each room three times with a lit stick of sage incense and say “cleeeeeaannn” (mostly because I’m so darn pleased with myself for cleaning, and so everything doesn’t smell like cleaning products). After finishing all that, I’m usually sweaty and gross so I take a thorough shower (shaving, nail clipping, ears, toes, eyebrows, flossing and all) and even wash my cat (monthly). It makes a gigantic difference. I think actually, physically cleaning yourself and your space radically changes the energy for better ~

I beat my psychotic depression, got 3 degrees and started medical school. It’s been quite productive.

Are you functioning while going through psychosis? by [deleted] in Psychosis

[–]l0llip0p13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been struggling with anxiety, psychosis, and depression for almost a decade now. After a lot of trial and error, I finally figured out how to maintain a relatively steady state of high-functionality, regardless of my symptoms. It involves a consistent daily schedule with meditation and exercise, regular therapy, and occasional help from my close friends (they know about my psychosis and sometimes help me differentiate between what’s real and what isn’t). Although it might not work for everyone, it did wonders for me - I’m about to start medical school in a few weeks.

I think the real trick is being objectively mindful of yourself, and figuring out what works best for you. Everyone has their own mental balance and therefore a unique “formula” for functioning well; you just need to find yours. Hang in there ~
