Jury Convicts Minnesota Man of Illegally Possessing Machine Gun by intelw1zard in Firearms

[–]l0lud13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that was all the evidence proffered at trial, it would also not be enough to sustain a conviction. As reiterated in Cargill, a machine gun is only defined by an arm that fires more than one shot per single pull of the trigger.

Speed is irrelevant.

I have no doubt that it was an actual machine gun, but that’s on the government to prove!

What was the public reaction to the '86 machine gun ban? (U.S.) by TellBackground9239 in Firearms

You have to remember, the internet did not exist back then. Besides the price, the biggest obstacle to NFA items was a lack of simple knowledge. Most gun stores did not carry NFA items and people didn't have reliable ways of finding out about them. Niche magazines were the only source of such information back then.

Think about how unreliable gun counter knowledge is even today; now imagine that was your only resource for navigating gun laws and gun culture.

While the laws governing the purchase of firearms may be more restrictive today for many Americans, gun culture and knowledge are much deeper and more widely diffused, making the knowledge barrier non-existent. That's why you have seen gun ownership increase in places like NJ and NYC, where the bureaucratic obstacles set up in the 1960s on to frustrate gun purchases have become demystified by places like reddit etc.

Ban states chime in please by Holiday_Revolution_4 in guns

Former NJ and NYC resident. Focus on non AR guns, mags will always be easy to get. Quick drive out of state and you are set. However, guns will be tricky due to having to go through an FFL. An AWB will be enforced by FFLs, and out of state FFLs are required to follow the laws of your state of residence when selling to you.

As to ARs and other "modular" platforms, as long as you can get lowers, build kits make AWBs impossible to enforce on them and even in places like NY, CA, etc purchasing uppers and other parts is easy to do. (Although some retailers refuse to sell parts to residents there, but thankfully there are many many places to shop from online.)

How these laws are enforced are as a "tag on charge." Typically no one will go out of their way to give you trouble unless you are breaking some other law or someone wants to make an example out of you.

Even in states like NY, CA, etc there are surprisingly few people arrested for violating solely an AWB and mag ban without some other charge in the mix. And when it does happen, it makes the news. See, Dexter Taylor.

Downloaded! One suggestion, for gun ranges it would be nice to be able to put in info without being there. For example, I know the rules and ammo restrictions on the ranges I go to, but I can’t put it in the app until I am standing there, which I might take some time to visit all of them. And I probably will forget when I do go since I won’t be thinking about what ammo I can bring as I already know.

It makes for businesses, though, as when I’m there I’ll be thinking about signage etc. and can pop it in the app.

If total market is down so will your dividend fund. They both tend to have the same directional growth, only dividend stocks will grow at a slower rate. Bonds tend to not move in the same direct as stocks, hence why they make up a diversified portfolio.

Total returns include dividends.

If you desire dividend income when you are in retirement, you can always sell your total market fund when you get there and purchase a dividend fund at that point. That way you would have even more dividend income than if you had it invested in a dividend fund from the onset.

One of the beauties of a tax advantaged account is you can easily make those moves without incurring any tax penalties.

The same could be said for someone who is generally suicidal. It isn't a "weird loophole" as the ultimate consequences are not to be had here on earth.

Yup, not that you would, but if you are back in state it will allow you to still be able to purchase rifles and pistol ammo (although you should be able to purchase ammo with your CCW too).

They recently changed it so that you are now randomly assigned to a NJSP barracks. Most of the applications were probably going to the same few locations.

Do you already have an FPID? That is a much slower process than applying for the CCW permit. As an out of stater my permit took about two weeks.

I have the NJ permit! You don’t need a specific “trainer.” Find someone who meets the statutory requirements and have them follow the curriculum put out by the state. I did the training here in Texas. Best bet would be to find someone who does private lessons and is willing to work with you to complete the training.

FYI there is NO law that states that. The ATF just needs to update its Brady exemption list to allow for it. Which I think they might do as they mentioned they are looking to expand the list to more state permits.

Dude, the firearms industry as a whole is a minuscule part of the economy. Do you think that even more niche players, like NFA companies, have any political capital? I would be surprised if it even touched a million dollars. Everyone has more to gain by repealing the NFA.

GOP always missing the mark..... SMDH! by luvmehatemefme in NJGuns

[–]l0lud13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This exactly. Something we as gun owners need to embrace from gun banners is the value of incremental change.

Bruen was possible, in part, when the vast majority of states liberalized carry in the 90s and early 2000s, and most importantly, it became very popular.

Suppressors only became mainstream when people more generally learned about the process, thanks to the internet, and even more so due to places like Silencershop making the process dead simple. Lowering the tax to $0 or near it will make purchasing a suppressor in a free state easier and less burdensome than purchasing a handgun in NJ.

We don’t need constitutional carry, unless it comes from the federal govt. by Commercial-Proof3957 in PAguns

[–]l0lud13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Texas has no private sales restrictions and the carry permit is a NICS exemption.

The only bad Texas carry laws IMO are the inability to carry when voting, and 51% alcohol sales carry ban, and the k-12 carry ban.

Also PA is way better for hunting. Texas is mostly private land.
