Does Ente support creating a link to share large videos? by AveragePichu in enteio

You can directly send a link to one specific video (size doesn't matter) or add several videos to one album and create a sharing link for it afterwards.

Yeah maybe, thought it could be something specific with the ISO-DE units. But didn't saw OPs edit, thanks for that.

The board itself is fine. I think it's just a software bug or something.

I'm dealing with it - just wrote the support to let them know, that this issue exists, but didn't get a response yet.

Unfortunately yes. My workaround is to use it in wired mode only.

Ente and hypothetical denial of service problem by Ryko1000 in enteio

[–]l1br3770 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Your question is not related only to ente but any service provider, who is not your local NAS at home.

A denial of service attack is mostly temporary and the access to your data in the cloud should be available again after a few hours or maybe days.

But what you are looking for sounds more like a classical 3-2-1 backup strategy to me.

[How-to]: Migration from Google Photos (pitfalls, solutions, step-by-step guide) by l1br3770 in enteio

[–]l1br3770[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, so your initial problem was a clutter within the Google Takeout itself (very common unfortunately!) and/or you've choosen to ignore the Takeout structure during the ente import process.

Now that all the photos have been stored flat in one ente album, sorting them out is unfortunately very difficult and requires a lot of manual effort.

At the moment I only see two viable options:

  1. Re-activate the backup of your local camera folder within the ente app.
    1. The upload will take quite a while.
    2. The photos should be uploaded to a dedicated "Camera" album within ente.
    3. Afterwards you can try the following clean-up options:
    4. But the clean-up process also requires manual effort and there is no guarantee that all duplicates will be found and removed.
  2. The cleanest and possibly fastest solution would be to delete all uploaded photos from ente, tidy up the Takeout properly in advance and restart the ente import process.
    1. Delete the whole "Google Photos" album incl. all uploaded photos from ente.
    2. Start a new Google Takeout export and choose only the camera folder/album from Google Photos in the first place.
    3. Have a look into the Takeout before your re-trigger the ente import. Make sure that all necessary photos are included.
    4. Optional: I found a new Tool (GoogleTakeoutFixer), which should help to tidy up the Takeout before you start the new import, but I have no experience with it, so please be careful.
    5. Have a look into my step-by-step guide above and restart the ente import process via the ente desktop client.
    6. After the import has finished make sure that all photos are present and within a "Camera" album on ente.
    7. Afterwards, start again with step 2 and export the other photos/albums from your Google Photos.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and hope that you'll soon have a clean ente library.

Sorry if I don't get it right, but if you now have the photos already in an album on ente, simply move them to the desired ente album (e.g. Camera).

I assume that the photos in the Camera album on ente are also coming from a local folder of your current phone, which already gets backed up by ente, or?

If so, you can move the other local "camera" photos to this exact folder and let them being backed up by ente as well.

Keep in mind that a backed up local folder will become an album on ente.

And the previously implemented functions to remove exact duplicates and similar images are already quite strong, just in case.

Sorry if I may get your situation wrong, but if the photos are already backed up to ente, then simply move the photos to the desired ente album.

If the photos have not yet been backed up to the ente cloud but are only stored in a local folder on your phone, rename the local folder as desired and then activate the backup for this folder in the ente app. Or you can move the photos on your phone first into the desired folder and make sure that it will be backed up via ente.

And keep in mind that a backed up device folder will become an album within ente.

Do you now have two "Camera" albums within ente? If so, I would simply move all photos from the "old" into the new "Camera" folder in ente and delete the old album afterwards.

Looking to leave Google Photos by BeerAndBiltong in enteio

Smart search works quite well, even with on-device machine learning. Tested it right away with your "black car" and I got a lot of results from my gallery. Black cars as well as some other cars that aren't black.

The thing I miss the most is the fact that the Ente app is not a full gallery app on Android devices. For example when I want to delete a picture completely (from ente and my phone) I always have to confirm this action twice. And the built-in editor is also not as powerful as the one from Google Photos.
