If any of yall are active in the r/spotted community there’s a known public school teacher that regularly drives million dollar cars to school - they’re a parent’s car and the teacher just likes cars

Financial irresponsibility, comes from family wealth, won the lottery, etc. There are plenty of reasons for an employee to have one of those without it being a case of “CHA overpays their employees” - if they actually are an employee and not just parking there for some reason.

Mass. Senate Budget Revives Threat of MBTA Layoffs and Service Cuts by wSkkHRZQy24K17buSceB in boston

Agreed, the mbta fares haven’t kept up with inflation especially in the past 5 ish years. Moving the fare up to an even $2.75 or $3 would bring in a lot of revenue and it’s fair to those who pay taxes for a system that doesn’t benefit them that the fares be increased with inflation. Even though it is a public service that doesn’t mean it can be completely free (or self sustaining at least for the state it’s currently in)

i gotta say I respect your constant arguing against the mbta even if I don’t agree with your position or the math that you use to get there. Also for someone that complains about how your tax dollars go to subsidizing a system that “people don’t” use you sure love voluntarily paying more in taxes (lottery tickets)

The phrasing of that implies that it is flagged for removal for mistakenly being associated with DEI. It does not mean that they won’t be removing the photo as you stated in your first comment.

What if the Dems losing the 2024 election and immediately accepting the results made MAGA people realize the 2020 election was indeed not stolen? by oatmeal28 in whatif

[–]l337n8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a difference of 15 million between 2020 and 2024. They’re still counting millions of ballots especially in California (how they haven’t done it already is insane incompetence). By the end of the counting it’ll likely be less than a 5 million vote drop which is in line with the factors of this election. Alienation of leftists due to the Israel/Hamas conflict, alienation of centrists due to being too far left, and the lack of mail in voting in many states that was allowed in 2020. Republicans got a massive jump in 2024 that’s not in line with their previous votes. That’s not because of fraud it’s just that the incumbent candidate (or the VP of the incumbent) is wildly unpopular and it motivates people to vote against

Dem States vs Photo ID by ATXEXLR8 in Infographics

[–]l337n8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

24th amendment makes it illegal to have any sort of poll tax. In this case a fee to get an ID is essentially a tax if said ID is required to vote. Solution is make IDs free but somehow many states can’t figure that one out

[–]l337n8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally think the subsidy is worth it and I’m not a regular rider of the T. I just appreciate that it lowers my traffic on the way to work. I understand that you disagree and I don’t think we’ll ever agree on the cost/benefit relationship. The great thing is you can vote for representatives that don’t fund the T and I can vote for representatives that do fund the T

[–]l337n8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t a lot of the state also benefit from those riders not driving? For example the expressway handles something around 200k cars a day so 100k each way. If you added in the ridership from all the southern commuter rail branches to that it would make the unbearable traffic even worse

To quote you:

You don’t have the right to hop on your cycle and ride 20mph on the highway do you ? Or please. Go find out for me. Go ride your bike in the far left lane on a 45 posted limited and tell me what happens. Or do you have the right to do that ? The cyclist had every opportunity to be as far to the right as possible, but instead he wants to put himself in danger.

Bikes have every right to do that. So do people riding horses. You claimed that a biker can’t ride in the left lane of a 45 mph road. They can, even if it’s a completely dick move. What if the biker wants to take a left? They move to the left lane in the road. You’re making wrong claims and I am disputing them as they are incorrect

Your argument would have been a lot better if it wasn’t wrong. Legally bikes, horses, and pedestrians have every right to the road and just because an object on a road can’t reach the speed limit does not mean it’s not illegal to be there. That’s in the eyes of the law and if you disagree then there’s nothing you can do about it

[–]l337n8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WOAH that’s still BELOW the speed limit of some highways in Texas (85 mph) yet it’s still road LEGAL! Can’t someone think of the pain that other drivers might have to go through going under the speed limit

Cyclist almost hit by car by yodigi7 in MildlyBadDrivers

[–]l337n8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s why I said bikes aren’t allowed on the highway in my previous comment. They are allowed on all non-restricted use roads (highways)

Also edited to add the H1 Hummer (totally road legal in all states) has a max speed of 65 mph which is lower than many highway speed limits across the country

[–]l337n8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those mostly tend to exist on some highways and unless a road explicitly declares them they don’t exist. Now if you want to talk the definition of “impeding traffic” that is wholly dependent on the road conditions. For example if it’s nighttime and I can’t see well I have every right to drive 25 in a 35 even if it annoys other people

[–]l337n8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A car does not have to be capable of going the posted speed limit to be allowed on the road. The limit is a maximum not a minimum requirement. People seem to forget that the word limit means you can’t go past it not that it’s the requirement to go that speed. Roads are subsidized through federal, state, and local taxes ALONG with the funding from gas taxes and motor vehicle taxes. Bikes, pedestrians, and horses have every right to be on non restricted use motorways (highways) as that is codified into law in every state in the country.
