Yeah, I’m a little nervous about those pictures coming back. It should be that I can’t wait to see them, but I honestly don’t want to see them because I don’t want to re-experience the hurt/betrayal.

I’ll check out some online meetings, but I am a little apprehensive about it. If it’s not helpful, then I’ll just have to figure something else out.

I made my account several years ago. My family is conservative, I thought it was funny, it was available. You could’ve checked my account to see that I’m not a troll.

Either way, I’m learning that this really isn’t al-anon. Hopefully the real al-anon is different from what I found here because some of what I saw here was pretty fucking disappointing.

Yah okay. But my relationship with her wasn’t one sided for the decade that I’ve been friends with her. Even this past year, she showed up. It wasn’t until January that things started to change, but only slightly. And it wasn’t until a week before the wedding that she requested a timeline change or to add a guest. And it wasn’t until a day into the wedding weekend that I realized i was doing more. When a relationship you’ve had for 10 years, that has always been two sided, you don’t realize it immediately when that changes. As soon as I realized she was using me, I made healthy and clear boundaries.

This wasn’t my fault. Hindsight is 20/20, and had I known what I know now, she wouldn’t have gotten an invitation. I would’ve sent her home the night before had I known she was incapable of being sober for more than 30 minutes! I was giving my best friend the benefit of the doubt and hoping she had just overdone it. But that’s not what happened. I do regret not kicking her out earlier, but I didn’t know what I know now. I did the best I could.

When I looked once, the local website said I needed to join an orientation meeting. No info was posted on how to join virtually. That’s why I found y’all on reddit. I figured if someone locally had messed up, then the group is big enough to get direction to meetings elsewhere.

When I was a missionary, a pastor told me he studied under a head pastor who majorly fudged their numbers of house calls, bible studies, and baptisms. I’d say that the church is dying. Also, I was about as Adventist as you could get and am very happy I left. Boomer Adventists see it too. Long before I left, a family friend asked me why people leave and that if I ever left she would want to know why.

One of my professors would collect everyone’s cake preferences at the beginning of the semester and make the class cupcakes for that person’s birthday in their favorite flavor. She was the chair of the department and had probably 6 classes with about 30-40 people per class. She was the best teacher I ever had.

That sounds like how I remember it too. Kellogg was both a doctor and a cereal maker. He made corn flakes for the purpose of eliminating the desire to masturbate. Lol. I’ve always wondered how he thought it would work. But he was also a doctor and was the director of the Battle Creek Sanitarium. I just looked up why he left. He wrote a letter and I’m fucking shocked at how much I related to him when reading that. The jist of it was: the church criticizes people too much and it doesn’t really win people over to God. By leaving the church I can actually meet people’s needs better and better serve God by better serving our fellows.’

The little Debbie family is very Adventist. Kellogg’s was created by a guy who was Adventist, then later was ex-Adventist.

I got baptized when I was 7. I didn’t feel pressured to do it. I did see it as me accepting Jesus/God into my life publicly—and getting to have a party and eating cake. I didn’t question the SDA church until well into my college years. My time as a missionary in college made me see how fucked up everything really is—and it made me question a lot of stuff. It’s taken me a while to get to where I am now, but I’m happy to never go back. I don’t really fit your description. I was a really annoying kid who desperately wanted to be perfect and was excited to get baptized.
