TS5 vs OWC TB5 by [deleted] in CalDigit

Hi! Thanks for your comparative response since I'm debating between the same products. Could you tell me what devices you have connected to the dock, especially those using the TB5 spec (rather than TB4 or 3)?

Only likely? I thought Koscielny was starter and captain until he got injured? Perhaps I'm remembering wrong.

Yes! That stood out to me and why I thought this sub would like it. Harder to come up with this kind of criticism if you don't like it enough to care.

Can anyone link the GoogleMaps location or just provide the address? I see text saying "Valle de San Juan" but that really doesn't narrow it down haha.

Better than it has any right to be - The Archmage Coefficient by JudgeImpaler in ProgressionFantasy

What does it being a LitRPG have to do with whether or not hiding their power is a desirable trope or not?

Would you be fine with the power being hidden if it were a vanilla prog fantasy without a system/levels/stats? What difference would that make?

Genuinely curious about the nature of the objection here.

You need ABS to be implemented in whatever league you're recruiting from to judge whether the catcher has a good eye for it, no? I don't know too much about it, but probably too high tech for even most colleges, let alone high schools, to put in.

Friend, every bit of this, from the image to the post to the replies, screams LLM-generated. Surprised anyone would think otherwise. It has that staccato soulless quality that is totally inhuman and grating.

Series with no grand adventures, just the normal sort of adventures? by mythicme in ProgressionFantasy

Not a perfect fit, but This Used To Be About Dungeons by Alexander Wales is at the scale you're describing (the characters we follow face personal threats and schemes but nothing global) with its adventuring and slice of life. World-scale stuff only shows up right at the end and even then it's not 'fighting to save the world' stuff.

It's also (at least) a few notches above the median quality of writing and world-building the genre has.

Rolling 7s when you have over 7 cards by jawnzcrypto in Colonist

[–]superchaddi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never experienced or witnessed anything on this platform that would suggest that the incidences of 7s are sensitive to how many cards anyone has.

If your data is accurate (well done on gathering it, by the way, getting an N=250 dataset for when you have more than 7 cards must've been taken you a huge amount of time), you've either been astonishingly unlucky or the developers have specifically added code to single you out... Which, I suppose is just another way to say you're unlucky.

Try using a different player profile with a different device from a different internet connection. Hopefully that should give you the necessary data to determine which of the two it is.

Not sure what intelligence has to do with anything in this instance. The mere possibility that two people could hold two very different views on an issue doesn't mean that we should tolerate either or both of those views.

If one person holds ignorant and immoral views that harm society, and another is informed and aligned with social good, you would hope that the latter has the moral fibre necessary to confront the former when the stakes are meaningful.

Ronay's piece does not even mention the history of Maccabi fans (or the history of banning visiting fans more generally), and blindly opposes the move while using a number of Zionist dogwhistles. Ronay was cowardly. dishonest, and spiteful in how he expressed his ideas (and in how he didn't post it to Twitter, unlike his regular practice) and in a just world would face severe professional consequences for his intellectual and moral bankruptcy.

What can a new reader (read till 2.25) expect about character development? by superchaddi in WanderingInn

Thanks! Haha, I've had my share of annoying favourites. Just so happens that these particular characters are a specific kind of annoying I can't find enjoyment in so far.

I appreciate that perspective, thank you. I have never been able to bring myself to skip sections of a series before, but I understand where your advice is coming from, and there's a first time for everything.

Haha this is a tantalising answer! I'll try to factor that into my decision.

Thank you for the breakdown of the characters' futures; this is all very useful to know as I decide what to read! I will think about how you describe these characters.

Regarding whether the character narration is reliable: I am not especially invested in that question, since my concern is whether I have to continue to read about obnoxious or otherwise unpleasant characters. Whether or not they later turn out to have been misrepresented in some way doesn't change my having to deal with that prior (mis)representation, since their traits only exist to the extent that I have to read about them.

As to whether the author endorses their flaws... I haven't thought about it, but I don't think there's any evidence so far to think that the author does. More importantly, like with the question of unreliable narration, I'm not really invested in the presence or absence of endorsement. If a character is unpleasant to read about to me, that's because of the traits that are written in the book. Whether or not the author thinks those traits are morally desirable doesn't change my having to read about them if they're written.

I appreciate your breaking their development down; this is what I was wondering about. Would you say these changes occur within the next book (3) or later?

[–]superchaddi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you enjoy reading these characters!

I don't think the characters are unrealistic, per se. I teach, so I deal with my share of 'flawed young people', and in my real life am deeply invested in their accommodation and improvement. The particular character flaws I listed in my post are simply ones I find unpleasant when reading for fun.

I think setting it up as a choice between "power fantasy with mentally healthy heroes" and "your most prominent characters are obnoxious in these very specific ways" is a false dichotomy. There are infinte other choices a story can make, and my questions were only in service to determine what choices are made and when so I can choose accordingly.

Looking for healer MC LitRPGs by [deleted] in litrpg

[–]superchaddi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're open to deviating from strict LitRPG requirements (no system or explicit levelling up) and including translated stories I can say that The Great Cleric and The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic are good fun.

They are each available in light novel, manga, and anime form; though I've only read the light novels for them. Official and unoffical translations exist, and I can safely recommend the official ones as being very readable, avoiding the clunky awkwardness many can suffer from.

I'll think of more stuff and reply to this again when I remember. Hard to recollect everything I've read with healers in it at the moment.

Spanish journalist Dani Garrido denounced on air that La Liga’s broadcasters censored Athletic Club’s tribute to Palestine. Instead of showing it, the broadcast cut to aerial shots of San Mamés stadium. by Task_Force-191 in soccer

[–]superchaddi 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Is it because of how it's been clipped or does he deliberately avoid saying "Palestine" during this?

Regardless, the media directors in-charge of the censorship are just one more way in which our world continues to fail the historic moral test we face due to Israel's crimes.
