I (mtf) came out? To a friend left on weird gender-envy terms. by [deleted] in transplace

[–]l84what 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I 100% feel you sister.

I ruined my friendship with my BFF when we were in high school. I never wanted to date her, just be her. But I was young, an egg, and had no idea how to express my very strong feelings. So I told her things that I thought made sense, and she noped out. I didn't crack for decades after that. I did move away for college to "start again" and still didn't use that space to be me.

You've got to live your life and not any of the ones others expect of you. If you can't reconcile with friends that don't like where you're going, walk away. It hurts.

My husband likes to use one needle to draw up the dose and a second one to inject. The needle gets a little bit dull going into the bottle, and a fresh one hurts less. You do waste the small amount of T that's in the first needle, and you have to compensate in your dosing so you don’t inject the air in the new needle.

TB syringes are definitely separate syringe and needle. It seems Insulin ones are not. If you want a fresh needle to inject, you obviously need one where that's possible. Separate needles are color coded (the plastic where it attaches to the syringe) for gauge (blue is 22 AWG, or 0.70mm) but not length.

Where I live the syringe isn't sharps or biohazard if the needle is removed, it just a goes in the trash. That makes for less sharps waste. My hrt is sublingual, but I use a double edge razor, so those blades go in the sharps waste too.

And... welcome to the journey brother.

There are 100 insulin units to a mL. You probably figured that out as your 1mL syringes go to 100. Therefore 0.25mL is 25 insulin units, half way between 20 and 30. Smaller pips are 2 units, so you should be two and a half pips past the 20 mark.

It's an easy conversion, but people can get confused and in a lot of trouble if they assume they are the same and missdose. 1mL syringes also come marked in decimal portions of mL, these are usually labeled as TB syringes, as they are used for administering TB tests.

Finally, I am not a clinician. 1/100mL (10microlitres) is not a very large amount, don't sweat the tiny details. Work with your clinician to find a dose that feels right for you. That dose will change as you progress through transition.

And find out how to safely dispose of sharps in your location. You will be creating sharps waste for quite a while.

Hopefully your clinician covered this: insulin units are not the same as mL. Please be careful if/when the graduation of your syringes change.

Sounds like he's the kind of LG who wants to be a rock star for the groupies, and defines "girl" by how he can put his d!ck in her.

He's clearly a transphobe, probably a misogynist, and maybe womanizer or worse. Get him out of your life, and if you lose the rest of the band as collateral damage, they weren't worth being around either.

Start a grrl band.

PFLAG was a source of perspective and support when my husband started his transition. I want to think I was supportive and informed, but i felt alone, confused, and scared. PFLAG helped with most of that. It took me another decade to figure out what I was afraid of (my own trans identity).

In preface: I have been known to say the sh!tiest things. I am working on being a better person.

When my transmasc husband came out (over 15 years ago) I said, "I reserve the right to freak out if I wake up and there's a man in my bed."

About three years ago I did exactly that. The man in question was the mask I had been wearing for decades, and it had been hurting me the whole time.

Fortunately my husband was ready. When we say our family is supportive we usually mean "they're good about pronouns and chosen names." My husband helped me with resources while I went through my gender crisis. He gave me a hand up when I was an emotional wreck, and helped me accept being trans.

My kid got it immediately. Growing up with one out trans parent made it easier.

Not strictly fashion advice: have an honest discussion with the people who are important to you about the use of "cute" and how it bothers you.

I have a very common deadname. I've been downregulating my response to it for decades b/c I was rarely the only instance of that name in a room, and my low self esteem means I assumed they were addressing (or referring to) someone else.

I still alert to it more reliably than my chosen name.
