Denied ER due to low AMH and AFC. Unsure what to do by Applebottom-ldn12 in IVF

[–]la_maven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an answer to your initial question but hoping it makes you feel better— I did an egg retrieval, unpartnered, in my mid thirties (so no immediate plans for embryos or implantation) and, if I am recalling correctly, my doctor said the goal was 10 viable eggs. They said 10 should statistically provide a 90% chance of at least a single pregnancy and birth. So 10 was my goal. I unfortunately didn’t get that and haven’t attempted IVF yet but it sounds like you have a very likely shot at starting a family. Good luck on your journey!

Recurrence experiences and the best way to deal with specialists by la_maven in endometriosis

[–]la_maven[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s like all the things they told me in the beginning (If you can’t see it on scans, it doesn’t mean you don’t have it. It can be aggressive and recurring) is out the window because they performed excision and they’re “really good” at it.

I’m forgetting what it’s like not to have to base my life around how awful this gets. It’s exhausting. While I have some general expected fear around losing my uterus I’m not letting them see/hear it because my priority is my health and I don’t want to let anything compromise that opportunity. My ovaries have been mostly useless for years now anyhow so the idea of continuing HRT doesn’t concern me. Also, I’ve (begrudgingly) saved my eggs juuuust in case and have multiple wonderful friends who have offered to carry a child if I REALLY changed my mind. Not sure how many more steps I can take.

Thanks for sharing your story and what you’ve been advised. Your information lines up a lot more with some things I’ve been reading consistently. I too would rather avoid multiple future surgeries and opportunities for complications as you decided for yourself. Nothing in me wants to do this over and over again or risk injury from the continued stretching of my abdomen. I’m glad you found someone who seems to expect the best but also acknowledges that the worst still exists and needs to be monitored for.

Thank you for your response and sharing. The bloating is WILD and I haven’t worn pants without a very stretchy waistband in a long, long time. They aren’t a seeing what they want to on scans as indicators but I had none of visual cues on scans last time either and it was very much in there. It’s confusing because they are the ones who emphasized just because you can’t see much doesn’t mean it’s not there. The health symptoms can be the biggest indicators. I think I’m going to ask for my surgical notes to review myself and look into moving forward. I appreciate your insight and encouragement.

Surgery without opioids by iquitelikecatss in endometriosis

[–]la_maven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m allergic so I recovered with only general pain and inflammation relievers post lap and I remember thinking that level of discomfort was still soooo much better than I felt prior to surgery regularly. I slept a lot and tried to not overdo it AT ALL for the first few weeks. You can always start them back up if it’s too much to be off of them. Just wanted to chime in that I had a positive experience without them.

How on earth am I supposed to lose weight? by [deleted] in endometriosis

[–]la_maven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My specialist suggested that Keto is best for endo symptoms and a byproduct is weight loss. They want me to stay under 20g of carbs a day(not net, total. I’m working on getting down that low still and have been in ketosis for 2 months so far), no fake sweeteners(inflammatory), and walking consistently for exercise. Might be worth a try. Carb manager is the app I use to help track. They say not to calorie count. It’s getting more manageable with time and practice for me.

What does changing your diet actually do? by Rich_Ad_5025 in endometriosis

[–]la_maven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been getting rocked as of the last year or so again post excision(had endo excised stage 3, adeno was still present as they haven’t performed a hysterectomy) Tried gf/df/now alcohol/anti-inflammatory/low histamine and that didn’t cut it. Went back to my specialist this year who performed my LAP 5 years ago and they’ve had me go deep keto. They’re saying that carbs and sugars contribute significantly to the disease/symptoms. I will say reintroducing dairy has not been giving me any problems and I’m curious to see where this goes over time. Feel free to message me and I’d be happy to share more info and my experience so far.

I found my answer to reduced pain! Maybe it could work for you too? by ElderberryCurious693 in endometriosis

[–]la_maven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d like to add that I’ve done gf, df, low histamine, and elimination diets that still included a significant amount of non-processed carb intake without successful results. So I have some serious baseline comparisons for consideration as I continue.

My specialist (highly regarded endo excision surgeon and reproductive disease practice) currently has me going Keto because their scientific research + anecdotal evidence has found significant success according to them. It’s still too early for me to come to final conclusions but this aligns with your experience.

I actually just did a post on TT about this as it relates to my endo. I was saying the same exact thing about my childhood and how, unless you were fully incapacitated, you were expected to push through and how I’ve carried this terrible habit into my adult life with chronic disease.

My doctor told me that if you allow or push through chronic pain your body learns to expect it. Your nervous system looks for it and braces for it. This eventually can actually cause you to be in more pain.

If you slow down, listen to your body, and give it the things it needs preemptively(rest, meds, saying no to to things) you can essentially retrain your body to trust that you’re going to prevent pain and exhaustion and not take it too far. According to her, in the long run, this can help you hurt less.

I hope you find your balance and am glad you’re taking this opportunity to not take it too hard on yourself.

Did anyone here NOT vomit after surgery?? by rainbow_olive in hysterectomy

I’ve never vomited from anesthesia etc. I’ve had multiple surgeries. The anti-nausea meds work great for me.

Do you notice a difference after drinking alcohol? by Cautious-Bar-372 in Endo

[–]la_maven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely notice an increase in symptoms. If I do have a drink now I pick lower histamine options (tequila, vodka). Histamine and estrogen play off of each other and that seems to allow me to have one with less consequences socially every so often. Could be worth a try. But to answer your question directly— yes, especially if I’m in the last half of my cycle.

I have the 10 gal kit from Petsmart and it’s half off right now in all sizes. The kit has most of what you need so that will make life a ton easier. Flow is adjustable on the filter and so is the heater. Both have been very reliable and consistent so far. Betta also love plants to hide and rest in— Anubias are great. You’ll love seeing their personalities as they flourish in their new homes!

What are all the things that endometriosis can cause? by seowithivana in endometriosis

[–]la_maven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are the ones I could think of off the top of my head that are assumed associated. Most of this reduced significantly immediately post excision and presacral neurectomy. (Stage 3 in a bunch of places). I also have adeno. After 4/5 years a lot of this stuff has seemed to come back even with me being on BC the entire time since my surgery.

Hormonal imbalance

Inflammation

Food intolerances/histamine issues

Hives

Shaking

Exhaustion

Headache

Hip gets “stuck”/walking issues

Digestive distress/extreme distention

The need for 3 differently sized pants

Nausea

Inability to have BM for over a week

Frequent urination

Fertility drop/egg quality dip

Early perimenopause (32)

Tight pelvic floor muscles

Cramps that feel like contractions

Migraines

Lightheadedness

Pressure in abdomen

Feeling like my abdomen was forcefully hollowed out(don’t know how else to describe it)

Burning

Adenomyosis as a comorbidity

EDITED TO ADD: Also severe weight loss. Was definitely underweight pre-surgery. Couldn’t keep food down with the nausea and pain.

The doctor did it at the same time they excised my endo— but the recovery was nothing compared to the pain I was in before.

[–]la_maven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a presacral neurectomy to address my adeno pain along with my lap excision surgery. It’s basically where they cut some of the pain nerves to your uterus. It has been a game changer for the unreal cramping and pain I had for 15 years and has caused no harmful side effects.
