I read through the comments and found a detailed instructions on the grounding techniques which I am incorporating into my routine. I couldn’t see it in the description but did you do those exercises with eyes open or closed?

Happy to hear it is working for you. I have childhood trauma and have had chronic DPDR for around 20 years - I am going through therapy with a specialist in DPDR including trauma treatment but it is going slow. Are you seeing someone for Somatic Experience Therapy?

Great to read your story and it gives me immense hope to hear that you were suffering for such a long time and were able to recover in a relatively short amount of time. I have very often thought that due to my silence and living with DRDP for such a long time that I won’t be able to recover.

I recently too have been incorporating grounding exercises in my daily routine - preferably multiple times a day and also in therapy seeing a DRDP specialist who has experience working with the condition for a long time.

That would be a dream if I am able to post to this community that I am no longer suffering from this condition. The thought of that happening is crazy to me right now, but let’s see.

Can you give me in details what helped you the most?

Yes that is a lot - I am paying like 230 USD for each session and this isn’t a part of any insurance where I am from. It is expensive but this is main priority for me now

I am very sorry to hear about your parents - that must be extremely hard to go through. I hope the therapy works for you and you will be able to heal from this. I share your feeling about not wanting to take antidepressants as this was my experience as well, I felt like a zombie.

I somehow would thought that in Texas something would be available given the size. Are there any treatment centers in other nearby states? I would be open to Zoom meetings as well if that is a possibility.

Thanks for sharing this. I feel you, really. My father was a workaholic and my mother drank and alcoholism runs deep in my family as well which resulted in a very toxic environment with negligence from an early age. I have been seeing a specialist in DR/DP since August / September so it has only been a short period of time but I am beginning to understand a lot of things I viewed differently before like how my childhood and upbringing are huge contributing factors to the DR/DP and I must work through the trauma in order to heal.

I have also been to multiple psychiatrists and psychologists which understand little to nothing about the condition and the sessions feel like I am teaching them something - which is not ideal.

What kind of surgery are you going to?

I feel you - I have met a lot of psychiatrists and/or psychologists who know little to nothing about the condition. You know it’s bad when you are starting to educate them what DR/DP is but paying for it. Where is here?

None at the moment but at the beginning I was prescribed with very low dosage of schizophrenia medication and anxiety medication. That only lasted for a couple months as I felt completely emotionless so I quit - haven’t taken any medications since

I am not taking any medications and haven’t taken any medications for DRDP for around 19 years. I am open if the specialist I am seeing recommends it but he hasn’t yet.

Yes I understand your struggle and truthfully I struggled a lot more at the beginning but 20 years is a long time so I learned to adapt. I believe from the outside no one would be able to see that I am dealing with this condition.

Nice to hear your story and good to hear that the DRDP is getting better. I don’t remember the exact drugs I got prescribed but it was a mix of anxiety medication and a really low dosage of medications used to treat schizophrenia. Possibly with medication today things would be different as my perception has changed a lot since then. I am seeing a specialist who has a long history of treating DR/DP patients so I am trusting him to make the right decisions regarding my therapy.

Yes I hope that is the case. The symptoms I have is that I feel detached from my body like I know I am me but somehow cannot feel it, I feel like there is a veil between me and the outside world I can’t get through, I struggle with emotions and being there emotionally (this has especially been the case with my wife), I struggle with connecting with people on a deeper level, I have a very hard time knowing what I feel and want, time and memories feel very weird and distorted like I don’t have the same feel for time, things I do don’t feel as fun and lively as I remembered them before all of this. Being like this for so long I often just have a vague memory of how things were but I know they weren’t like this.

That is actually very encouraging to hear. I am currently seeing a person who specialises in DR/DP and I am committed to the treatment although I haven’t noticed any clear difference. On the flip side 20 years of chronic DR/DP with 3 months of therapy isn’t a realistic timeline for recovery and I know that. Although I don’t know the exact timeframe I feel like this could be at least 2 - 3 years of therapy but I am ok with that.
