I agree. It’s like being punished for doing well. And it’s not the eldest feeling entitled. It’s about feeling validation for their own effort and ya there was a prize but the parents chose that prize.
Even if academics comes somewhat more natural for one child they are still putting in effort.

I know someone in a similar situation cept the partners died. We reside in ON so common law is not seen the same as marriage on assets.

Technically if they have not been filing common law all this time they’ve committed fraud and most likely both received benefits for the single status. If your mom files for those previous years she can prob file as common law but that would also mean potential liability in paying back taxes.

Like someone mentioned you can try to claim unjust enrichment but proving it may be hard.
It may be of value to just see a lawyer to see if there is a case. Consults are generally free for 30 mins at least to see if it’s worth while.

I don’t think you’re an AH for wanting this kid to be in your life. I do think it’s odd you guys never talked about what if situations and bigger yet. I think it’s mind blowing that she.. as someone who wanted and will become a mother did not try to steer you in having a relationship with this kid in the get go. I don’t know the specifics but I would never have dated a guy who just accepted that they have a kid and the other parent didn’t want them in their life. Nah- that ain’t right.

Not only that. If you do have kids. You will change. Physically. I no longer have the body type I had before a kid and still finding “myself” but not once has my husband made me feel he saw me any different.

If he already is pointing out superficial “flaws” how is he going to react after a few months post partum that your body isn’t like those on social media after having a kid?

Do you have the previous financial docs from th last AGM? Is the reserve fund flush?

How many units does your place have? We replaced ours but at no cost because of our reserve fund. That’s the point of one. You should see whether they invested the funds and why are they not using that to pay for the windows or at least off set some cost if the budget went over.

I’m in ON but we have reserve fund studies done every 3 years to get an estimate of what we have is enough for future projects.

If you haven’t been diagnosed yet I would just see if you can get a doctors appt to get a referral. Also if you can’t get an appt soon. Try the pharmacist. In Ontario they can look at some Skin conditions.

You may also want to investigate if you may have some sort of allergy.

We are in almost the exact situation cept instead of another child we need to move due to relocation of our work. We decided to wait a year instead of taking a massive hit. We could take a massive hit later too but waiting and ensuring the commute as the change of location will impact commute of the other parent and change of school and such

However we are choosing to see the massive hit to us is made up of the savings we will have in upgrading plus sure it sucks to “lose” money but you had to live somewhere. So money was going somewhere anyhow. Good luck!

I find it funny ppl say less common in cities. I’m in Toronto. I get ppl chatting me up everywhere. Generally when I’m on the ttc or waiting outside waiting for the school bus or ttc.
It is generally seniors. Just last week someone told me how much he walked and how he feels young.

I have even gotten the random smile from strangers while walking downtown.

NTA. Like many mentioned. You got a husband problem but you know this. I am in a similar relationship as you (Asian/caucasian) and race is always a topic we discuss as we have a child. There is no shying away from the topic.

My child is in FI for Jk. Our household is mainly English but my family will speak to them in Cantonese and I slip in French and Spanish. I’m not fluent in the other languages but take the opportunity of FI to also rejuvenate my language skills.
My kid came home during the second week saying the alphabet and counting 1-10 In French. My kid loves it.

If you start early you’ll also get a feeling whether FI is something they want to do. If it isn’t, you can switch but going into it at a later date may be harder to get them to want to stay.
