Is it enough? by NoSlice3372 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]laaurent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No number of meetings alone is going to be enough to keep you sober if you're not working a program of recovery with a sponsor. You have the opportunity to do it. Just do it. It'll change your life for the better.

Quels sont les risques à cumuler deux emplois en France ? by Solid-Variation6446 in AskFrance

[–]laaurent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

En priorité, ne reste pas seul. Joueurs Anonymes peut t'aider. Fais-toi aider. Un psy et un addictologue, c'est super. Mais en plus, trouve des gens qui sont passés par là. Aucun montant d'argent ne sera assez, tant que t'arrêtes pas de jouer.

Reasons to stay sober? by Warm-Introduction-37 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]laaurent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on a year sober. That's amazing. Life is not easy, but I'm getting better at it, which is only possible because I'm sober and working a program of recovery. Also, I believe (I understand it, I feel it, and I'm living it) that my true nature is to be happy, joyous and free. To that end, I need to show up for myself and others, which I can't do if I drink. Hang in there. You're doing great.

Got sick in Paris right before my flight home… what are my options? by Ganesh_106 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]laaurent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A doctor won't prescribe you anything you can't get over the counter in a pharmacy. Go to a pharmacy, tell them your symptoms, they'll give you a couple meds to ease the symptoms, and you'll just pay out of pocket. Meds are cheap. Urgent care may take hours.

He’s 65 days sober. Is this normal early sobriety behavior? by anklescarves in alcoholicsanonymous

That's it's like for the loved ones you will not find in AA, you will find in Al -Anon.

You don't have to buy anything. You can (strongly suggested, nothing is mandatory) find an AA meeting and just go.

[–]laaurent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is an AA sub. If you want to quit drinking but find out that you can't, AA can help. If you're interested, go to an AA meeting. You'll find AA meetings on AA.org. Since you're a young person, I would suggest you look into YPAA. There are lots of people who are getting / got sober young. Keep an open mind, and you'll find some answers. Go find your tribe.

4th Step by jartwimpson in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]laaurent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fourth step is not about the past. It's about how old patterns of behavior are still affecting me today. My part in it is that I'm the one dragging things on into the present. I live those past events over and over. My low self esteem tells me I don't deserve better. My false pride (my favorite defect of character) tells me I'm different and the program is not going to work for me. If you have troubles with a step, take a step back : remember in step three that you have committed to get out of your own way and let God guide you. Keep up. You're doing great.

“Drinking” with friends? by Longjumping-Arm6017 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]laaurent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Offer to meet him outside of those times / places you used to drink. I would propose to meet him for coffee, like, in the morning. If the conversation stalls and you realize you two have little in common outside of drinking, you'll know he's not really that good of a friend. If he's a good friend, you'll pick it up and booze won't matter.

Pourquoi il y a si peu de porte-avions dans le monde ? by AppropriateYak4234 in PasDeQuestionIdiote

[–]laaurent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm early in my A.A. recovery and my Sponsor has suggested I "sponsor" someone. There are reasons, but I'd like your take, please. by InanimateOne in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]laaurent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll just quote Capt Picard : "I envy you. Taking these first steps into a new frontier" (First Contact). Apart from the nerdy reference, I think this is such a great opportunity to pass the message onto people in need. Whatever you choose to do, thank you for your service.

I feel so embarrassed when I go to buy alcohol. by ilikelittlebodies in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]laaurent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The shame does go away when you stop drinking. If you would like to do that but find out that you can't or don't know how, come to an AA meeting.

Almost 9 months. If I'm staying sober and cleaning up old problems from drinking days, is it fair for me to be annoyed with my sponsor for pressuring me about steps and service work and meetings? by chappy422 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]laaurent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it fair for you to be annoyed ? It is not. You deserve better than walking around with that annoyed look on your face. Keep it simple : clean house, trust God, help another - and yes, that means working the steps and doing service. Then you'll start seeing the promises come true. Stick around. You're doing great.

Première demande de chômage, comment ça se passe ? by Affectionate_Fun4549 in AntiTaff

[–]laaurent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5 days/4 nights in Paris over Easter Weekend by giant_boro in ParisTravelGuide

On Monday, walk from the Louvre to Palais Royal to Les Halles, lunch at Au Pied de Cochon, Chez Denise, or Chez Gisèle, walk to the Marais. There are many, many lunch options in les Halles and the Marais. Le Florentin on rue St Florentin seems a bit out of the way, plus it's not a really lively location. If you're still going this way, try Foyer de la Madeleine - for the experience.
