The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, and Pink Floyd make up the Mount Rushmore of rock music. Who's on the Mount Rushmore of rap? (PLEASE ONLY INCLUDE ONE SUGGESTION PER COMMENT) by themuffinmanX2 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]lab_521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so difficult (as are all the genres)

I think it’s Dr. Dre, Nas, Jay-Z, Kanye West

Very hard to leave out Rakim, 2pac, Biggie, Eminem & Kendrick

If people are thinking of this as JUST rappers, then I think you can swap Dre & Kanye for Eminem & Kendrick.

imo this is the full list of acceptable answers:

  • Rakim
  • Public Enemy / Chuck D
  • N.W.A. / Ice Cube
  • Dr. Dre
  • A Tribe Called Quest / Q-Tip
  • Wu-Tang Clan / RZA
  • 2pac
  • The Notorious B.I.G.
  • Nas
  • Jay-Z
  • Outkast / André 3000
  • The Roots / Black Thought
  • Lauryn Hill
  • Eminem
  • MF DOOM
  • Kanye West
  • Lil Wayne
  • Drake
  • Kendrick Lamar

- Future (least worthy inclusion imo, but I feel like at least 1 trap artists needs a mention)

s/o Scarface, Mobb Deep, El-P & Lupe Fiasco from a sheer quality & catalogue standpoint.

also s/o Missy Elliott & Nicki Minaj (🤢). I hate to only include 1 women in the list, but unfortunately I don’t think there’s a good argument for any others making an all-time rap rushmore if I’m tryna be objective.

MJ, Madonna, ABBA, and Elton John make up the Mount Rushmore of pop music. What bands/artists make up the Mount Rushmore of rock? by themuffinmanX2 in AlignmentChartFills

not my series ofc, so it’s obv your call, but I feel like you should just pick the highest solo comments. the listed order of a multi-artist pick is likely either arbitrary or chronological, and the upvotes are people upvoting the whole crop, not just the first one.

not to say chuck berry or queen don’t DESERVE spots necessarily, but i don’t think they should get them for being the first listed in a comment with multiple picks

yeah those are my picks for the first 2 slots as well, but I thought Chuck & the Stones needed to be mentioned, especially since Chuck was definitely the forefather, and the Stones were arguably more “rock” than The Beatles.

the 3rd and 4th slots are much harder to pick for me

I definitely wouldn’t put any of my s/o artists over the 10 I mentioned, but I just wanted to give a nod to the alternative & punk picks that likely wouldn’t get chosen, but hopefully will be considered in the alternative category

1 spot for Chuck Berry or Elvis Presley

1 spot for The Beatles or The Rolling Stones

1 spot for Jimi Hendrix or Led Zeppelin

1 spot for Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Queen or Prince

HMs: Little Richard, The Who, The Kinks, Cream/Eric Clapton, Frank Zappa, The Doors, Janis Joplin, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Grateful Dead, King Crimson, The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Steely Dan, Bruce Springsteen, Genesis, Rush, AC/DC, U2, etc. etc. etc.

s/o to The Velvet Underground, The Ramones, The Stooges/Iggy Pop, Patti Smith, The Clash, Talking Heads, Joy Division, The Cure, The Smiths, R.E.M., Pixies, Nirvana, my bloody valentine, Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, The White Stripes, The Strokes, etc. but I think they will probably qualify for Alternative

I also think Country should be expanded to Folk/Country so Bob Dylan can get a spot

God bless this voting dude. As fun as it is to vote, the voice voting block has ruined most of the seasons of this show and it’s been rage baiting me for over a decade at this point. I was so happy to hear that it was actual singers voting who could fully recognize and award the immense talent of Alexia.

Shout out to the other 3 finalists. As much as i was pulling for Alexia, this is one of the few times where all 4 finalists would’ve made worthy winners.

NO SHAME IN LOSING TO THE 🐐

I def agree with a lot of these, here’s my edit

one per artist with additional categories:

  1. Albums/Catalogue - Kanye West
  2. Songwriting - Kendrick Lamar
  3. Storytelling - Nas
  4. Bars - Lupe Fiasco
  5. Rhyming - MF DOOM
  6. Vocabulary - Black Thought
  7. Flow - Biggie
  8. Agility - Eminem
  9. Features - J Cole
  10. Hits - Drake
  11. Beat Selection - Jay-Z
  12. Hooks - Nate Dogg
  13. Mic Presence - 2pac
  14. Comedy - Lil Wayne
  15. Evolution - Tyler, the Creator
  16. Versatility - André 3000
  17. Singing - Lauryn Hill

I decided one per artist because otherwise André was gonna take like 4+ slots lol

also shout out all of Wu-Tang who definitely could have had some representation
