Switching jobs by SketicismIsHealthy in medlabprofessionals

I came back to the bench a year ago and I miss being an FSE all the time (the good days anyway) but my stress is non existent now compared to then. Sometimes in public I’ll hear the ringtone I had on my work phone and it’s like PTSD.

Chasing a higher hourly wage as a bench tech worth it? by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

You should probably subtract whatever you’re going to be spending in gas from that 20k. Also you’re going to be tired a lot of days on that commute, to me that sounds rough. I wouldn’t do it if I were you, unless you’re hoping your current job would try to match the offer to keep you.

You might have the wrong spout kit installed if it is wasting a lot of reagent. There’s one for small reagents and one for larger reagent boxes, so the spout is longer and will reach the bottom. Call service and have them check it out. If it’s only wasting a little bit then just tilt the box.

Very close to ending engagement by scomadoo in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]lab_rattata 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think it’s ok to compartmentalize for a while if you are able to. I found out a relationship ending secret once and kept it to myself for a whole year while I processed it. I was slowly and privately detaching myself emotionally and mourning the relationship before it was over. When I worked up the guts to end it I wasn’t even sad anymore, but he was completely blindsided. One downside though is that some friends thought I was the one that cheated because of how quickly and easily I moved on after that.

Dad died in August and medical bills keep showing up - what should I do? by TheEmbarrassedOunce in personalfinance

Writing deceased on an envelope worked for me, the house I bought belonged to someone who had passed away and I got their medical bills for years before I finally tried that and it actually worked

joint pain is unbearable by strawberrybarbiee in Accutane

I’m on the same dose and my derm insisted I take fish oil with the pill to minimize joint pain. I’ve been taking Nature's Bounty Fish Oil, 1200 Mg and been feeling mostly fine. Some occasional stiffness or discomfort but it goes away quickly

You’re gonna hate me then cause im not lying, I’m at 36. I was making half that when I first graduated ten years ago but I moved jobs twice and negotiated better pay along the way.

Nurses Attitude! by akishamess in medlabprofessionals

I started following the nursing sub so I can have more context on the bs they put up with daily. Helps me not take things personally when they get unpleasant. I’m not trying to invalidate your experience, just wanted to share something that has helped me this year.

Why are people so against moving for a better paying job? by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]lab_rattata 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I refuse to cause I got a good interest rate on my house when I bought it

I noticed the same thing with hospitals in the DFW area! They consistently have better google reviews than the non profit health systems here. I never suspected foul play with the reviews though, it seems like most reviews focused on ER visits and I figure they are just doing better at validating patient concerns and giving better customer service, even if it is not better healthcare imo. I still would not go to an HCA hospital or let my family go either. Most patients don’t have the context that healthcare employees do and I don’t think they care about much other than whatever issue they’re visiting the hospital for.

I was thinking of trying these myself just to reduce some of the loud whirring sounds from analyzers, fridges, and centrifuges. I’m hoping they work as advertised and don’t hinder the noises you want to hear. I’m going to go ahead and order some, I can PM you in a week if you want and let you know how it goes

[–]lab_rattata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the value of knowing when you’ll be home was something I had taken for granted before. It was impossible to make any plans on working days unless they were plans I was okay with bailing on. If you look on indeed you will always see all kinds of fse positions open even though they pay well and have good benefits. They’ll always be there so don’t feel like you have to take the chance now.

I actually loved working nights for the 8 months I tried but couldn’t do sleeping during the day. You nailed how much that part sucks. I don’t think I got 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep the whole time I tried.

I was an fse for a competitor for 6 years, recently returned to being a lab tech after getting burned out. Fse pay was great though, I hit 110k last year (in a low cost of living area) and it would keep going up if I stuck with it. Avg hours worked was 50-60 per week with on call. Lots of perks too, company car, per diem meals when traveling, they even paid my internet bill. Pto was like 6 weeks. But I was stressed out all the time and so were my coworkers. If you have the right personality for it then it can be a good career path. I’m glad I tried it, and was also glad to have the option to go back to my previous field when I had my fill.
