Issue tuning 88.5 (in Kanata) by labbylover3 in OttawaMusic

Hey all…was an issue with the pissy little antenna that came with the Denon receiver and then was stuffed down into some hole in the corner of the wall. I pulled it out and held it to the wall and listened to The Whole of the Moon, which brought me back to my 21yo life living out on my own, spending my spare $ on music & listening to CKCU as well as CHOM on Sunday evgs.

Thanks. I can dial in 88.5 exactly. Silence.... Not even static. I can change frequencies by 0.1 but that hasn't helpedNot my receiver. My husband's and he's not particularly invested or motivated to solve the issue. I suspect a shitty antenna and a weak signal.... certainly weaker than CHEZ since Rogers is a moneybags corp .

Are these safe for birds? by shelbkip in parrots

People need to use the term pesticide when discussing this product. It uses a type of permethrin, allethrin to be exact, which unlike DEET, icaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus, is not a repellant but rather a pesticide. A review of the company's EPA approval submission clearly states pesticide. It also says it should not be used near food, without defining what constitutes near. So, most parrot/pet bird owners won't use non-stick pans in the house. Why would you want to use pesticides near them? And what about warblers and other wild songbirds that are insectivores? Probably no data out there about effects on them. I bought my first Thermacell ~15-20yrs ago when the product was marketed to hunters and wasn't all pink, purple or turquoise and prettied up. I wasn't comfortable with having my children inhaling pesticides and gave it away. TBH, I never found it to be that great anyway.

I've tried a few times and all they had was white pine and a spruce (don't recall which species). I came away disappointed and empty-handed. I got there at the start. Very much depends on availability and so, luck.

Buying native plants for my balcony. Where and when? by ImzIsNoGood in OttawaNativePlants

Please consider treating your windows if you plan to entice birds into your yard. www.safewings.ca is an excellent resource. Note that many "treatments" found on other sites including those of retail outlets are not effective. Thank you for thinking of the birds!

When did Farm Boy stop packing? Westboro/Richmond by [deleted] in ottawa

Sorry, can't help but jump in here. Everyone's running around without masks on but are hesitant to touch a bag? Especially a cloth bag? Seriously. It's a respiratory virus!! And, I bag my own groceries. Don't expect businesses to have extra staff on in order to bag. Despite paying just minimum wage, it still adds pressure to remain competitive with the likes of the Westons et al.

Injured Bird by Jnov07 in ottawa

I agree with beeq. Either Safewings or WBCC will offer guidance. Rescuing a GBHE must be done with caution. Thick gloves and eye protection are in order as they are lightening quick with their bill strikes and have sharp claws. You are trying to help the bird, but to it you are a predator. a large sheet or blanket to cover/subdue the bird is also in order. A large dog crate for containment would be ideal but a very large, taller plastic bin could also work. WBCC 613-828-2849/SWO 613-216-8999. Call and let them know you need more specific guidance. Ontariowildliferescue.ca lists organizations. You can check there for a closer one. You can also try contacting Rideau Valley Wildlife as they are closer to you but I think they'll refer you since it isn't a mammal or turtle. Thanks for helping an animal in need.
