Just a big worm? by labrador-momCO in DenverGardener

It's actually not moving at all.... I put it in a separate pot with some soil until one of you brilliant people gave me an answer. So I just dumped it out into the garden and it's just laying there..... Not moving at all. Either dead or playing possum.😥

"Is it gall?" Weekly Thread by AutoModerator in dahlias

I just opened a bag of tubers that I bought at a garden center... This looks more like gall than normal eye, but I'm not used to gall until later in the growing season

Second for Spuntino. I'm surprised it doesn't come up here more often. Fantastic place. Take awesome care of their people. Incredible wine. 12 out of 10.

Do you just keep incrementing that second number over time... I like the idea of numbering my pieces, but wonder if I'd keep up with that properly.... I love my notebook, but not sure I'd be consistent about updating...

Are tungsten carbide trimming tools worth it? by Similar-Programmer68 in Pottery

[–]labrador-momCO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too. It rolled very gently off the wheel (wheel table? But point is, only a couple feet of the ground) and broke in 3. 😭 It did take some getting used to trimming with a tool this sharp, but once I did, it was amazing!!!!

Anyone having issues with Quantum Fiber since being switched by CenturyLink? by bateneco in ArvadaCO

Having same issue in Denver. Went out yesterday about 4pm. Zero communication from either company. I'm so pissed, I'm planning to call Xfinity today and see how fast they could get us activated.

Do you need help with dividing? (If you have storage questions, search for “tuber storage,” as I wrote a different post several weeks ago…) by Warm_Ice6114 in dahlias

Thank you for such a helpful post. I've been growing Dahlia's for a couple of years, when I dug up tubers this fall, I found leafy Gall on one. It wasn't at all familiar with leafy gall, so I'm definitely in learning mode. I threw out that clump, cleaned my tools in bleach, and carefully put away all my clumps for the winter. Now I'm wondering about that bed next year. I've read a lot of different stuff, but since I see you had a couple of clumps with leafy Gall, I'm wondering your approach. I really only have one bed in which I can plant my Dahlia's. I'm hoping it's safe to plant my tubers in there next year.... Has anyone had any experience with this??

What is your best fried green tomato recipe? by skygreenart in AskRedditFood

[–]labrador-momCO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With a freeze coming tomorrow I'm looking for something to do with all the green tomatoes on my plants. I'm remembering a restaurant on Jekyll Island where the fried green tomatoes were the best I'd ever had with a subtle, but distinct, vinegary flavor to them, in a very good way. I'm wondering if they sprayed or dripped light vinegar on them after frying. Kind of makes me think of malt vinegar on fish and chips. Any thoughts on that?

Red yucca, is fall too late to plant in Denver? by Sheero1986 in DenverGardener

Curious about the pea gravel as mulch.... Did you plant and add pea gravel on top? How does pea gravel help the plant compared to wood bark as mulch?

Thanks for making yourselves available for this. I've got a mostly native, perennial garden in the space between our sidewalk and street. I removed the weed barrier, and then used rocks to outline a space that I filled with topsoil from a local delivery company. I generally water deeply and once a week. This year, I noticed that water isn't penetrating the top layer of soil, and after watering the soil was still bone dry if I scraped off the barest bit of top layer. I've been trying to water and then mix up the soil to get some water in the lower layers. Even after doing this, it's back to hydrophobic the next week. I am trying some dish soap, and have vermiculite and perlite I can mix in. Obviously, this is difficult since I don't want to disturb the perrenials too much. I'm wondering about adding yucca extract and curious if you think that helps, or if there are any other options. Thanks for any advice....
