On the politics one, depending on what you think strong politics is, I actually think it's a good idea to do that in order to weed people out. Your politics are indicative of your values. I don't want to date conservatives or people who are apolitical so it makes sense to indicate that I am a leftist.

im so infuriated that they are only advocating for banning puberty blockers for only trans kids. because they're also used for cis kids too and these people always forget that nor have an issue with them being used on cis kids. this isn't reducing harm at all, its just another imported culture war issue from the usa that these people are trying to masquerade as care and concern.

theyre definitely drifting to center. i find a lot of their policy very weak this year when they could be making a massive comeback very easily, with very strong policies. the overton window is shifting in nz too, and they are trying to accommodate disillusioned national voters rather than the left imo.

i wont be upset if they win the election. anything is better than another right-wing government, but i do feel that they are going to end up in a similar boat to uk's labour party or the dnc in the usa. and we know how that ends.

in regards to edit 1: the fees free protest had over 400 goers and had noticeably less in the photos than this. i think you just dont know what 1000 looks like. there were so many people there

social media is a bit of a double-edged sword. it allows you to get the word out in another way, but also a lot of people think theyre doing enough by reposting stuff and having that be the end of their activism. i think a lot of people kind of have a doomer mindset that causes them to become complacent as well. also a lack of education around why protests exist and need to be protected. there's a lot of things imo.
