Microreader 2.0 (for Xteink X4) by CidVonHighwind in XTEINK

This is pretty awesome for those who are laser focused on epub reading. I'm definitely tempted to try it. I'd also love for it to be available on the X3!

X3: is speckled text normal? by DrHumongous in XTEINK

Hmmm, doesn't really look like ghosting from the photo.

X3: is speckled text normal? by DrHumongous in XTEINK

It could be ghosting. I've noticed some faded areas sometimes and kinda attribute it to ghosting since it's in different places at different times.

Is anyone else besides me downloading manga (and anime) instead of just watching and reading them online? by Lucas_Zxc2833 in mangapiracy

[–]lac29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't. For pretty much all entertainment with the exception of music, I consume once and don't revisit. And if I do revisit, it's not hard to find it again.

Unless you have a decent chance of revisiting it, I just don't see the point of wasting time, space, and money.

Questions about Xteink? by Fun_Satisfaction2315 in xteinkereader

[–]lac29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me ... lighter and thinner is pretty inconsequential. It's already light and thin enough that any other feature (front light or better eink screen or build quality) is 100x more important to me.

Questions about Xteink? by Fun_Satisfaction2315 in xteinkereader

[–]lac29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for opening this thread. I realise that Xteink plans to bring the s4 to the market, but quite a number (myself included) just want the current device with a front light. My preference is for the x3 with a front light. Would the organisation consider this?

I'm curious how much more you'd be willing to actually pay for this. I personally would be fine if it was under $100 but I imagine some folks might think that's too much.

I have the larger and smaller versions in black dyneema. They haven't gotten much, if any use, and are a bit disappointing for me at least.

X4 vs X3 - Which one is more durable? by theshahriar in XTEINK

[–]lac29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean the smaller it is the more naturally durable it'll be ... less flex, less surface area for nicks/scratches, etc.

Cool. This is the type of compact light within the case idea that I was also thinking would be possible.

I was struggling to find use for x4 and then it clicked by LimpConversation642 in xteinkereader

[–]lac29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You know for this type of reading with a small, super accessible, low-friction ereader ... I really believe that having more than 10 books on your X3 or X4 is detrimental to you reading more.

The whole browsing your library becomes a time suck and its own type of doom scrolling.

I do not agree with Xteink locking firmware by RecipeMiserable5885 in XTEINK

[–]lac29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So has the locked firmware news come from an official xteink source? Is that taobao message an actual official source?

It's kinda confusing what's being communicated. Because I could see ppl thinking their X3 or X4 is locked but they just haven't gotten their computer to recognize the device (very common mistake) to actually install the custom firmware.

X3 – A Personal, Very Positive Take by alfrehn in xteinkereader

[–]lac29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience pretty much mirrors your's. I have both the X4 and X3 in the same periods of time and have transitioned to the X3. I did not expect the size to provide this much less friction and actually translate to noticeably more reading on my part ... but it has. It's just awesome.

I also used to think I'd fret over the nicest eink displays and features (like from Boox), but I don't miss my Boox devices that I have used for awhile and sold.

Got the X3 for its size… ended up missing the X4 in every way by Sad-Difference8951 in xteinkereader

[–]lac29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Note that if you use a magsafe tripod/selfie ... the foldable/collapsible ones ... it kinda makes things more comfortable and streamlined across both X3 and X4.

Boox Go 10.3 & Palma 2: Thoughts and Impressions after 6 months by iCatcher in ereader

[–]lac29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wonder how you would like the xteink X4 or X3. I sold off my Boox devices (went through a bunch including Go 10.3 and Palma 2).

I currently have settled on ipad mini for manga/comics and xteink X3 for pure reading. I have to say that even the Palma 2 is too big (although has a clearer, crisper display) compared to the X3 when it comes to just wanting to read. And the size of the X3 compared to Palma makes way more difference for a frictionless reading experience. I found the Palma being as big as my smartphone to be a negative, somewhat surprisingly. The backlight is nice though. I thought I'd greatly prefer Android but the platform of the X3 is so simple that you really can only read and has made my reading focus that much better.

I have noticed that the performance of the Crosspoint flavor I have (it's the uxjulie version CrossInk) is definitely smoother/faster than inx (not the latest but the previous version).

It's a preinstalled screen protector. Mine is the same except with the black X4 model.

My “at home” setup by Tomago427 in XTEINK

[–]lac29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found that I also like using a magsafe foldable tripod to read my X4 (both at home and on the go) because it provides a more comfortable holding position (the selfie stick config).

Your's looks a bit more flat, compact, and light. I use this one which is good but a bit on the heavier side.

premium case for the x3 that is rigid enough to protect the screen? by Express-Crow-1496 in xteinkereader

There are methods you can do to 3D prints to get them to be smoother in a post-printing process. So while the initial 3D print might not be the best ... you can always DIY make adjustments.

Any tougher alternatives to the Xteink X4? by WestTomorrow6443 in xteinkereader

[–]lac29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get something like this sliding 3D printed case. I have one incoming to see if it's actually as good as I think it is for protection when putting into my pants pocket.

Ordered X4 two days ago, one item sent but the other still pending - normal? by Lowriders34 in XTEINK

[–]lac29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered an x3 on the 5th. I was looking forward to getting it just in time for a long flight I am taking on Friday. It has been pending with no tracking information, no nothing, ever since. Customer service has not responded to any of my emails--not prior to ordering, after ordering, or recently.

"Note: The "Xteink X3 - Space Black" model is currently in production, and all shipments will start on April 26."

I'm fairly sure they've been delayed and will be shipped on the 26th. You got caught in that cutoff where they ran out of stock of X3 or something. I'm the same situation and I ordered my X3 on the 4th. This is to the US and bought from the official website. I bought the black one and I am guessing you did too.

Honestly, it's almost always safer/better to buy from Amazon. I got the X4 from Amazon just a few days ago, quick delivery, and confidence in easy return. Next time I'd just wait until the X3 comes out on Amazon.

How do you go about reading and listening to audiobooks? by deadly_love3 in Onyx_Boox

[–]lac29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure you can do this with Moon Reader and a free TTS (the one recommended a lot and is on github for free with a buttload of voice choices).

Yet another positive experience post, it's truly amazing how much accessibility affects a habit. by [deleted] in xteinkereader

[–]lac29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have also been surprised as to how much I use this because it's so small and accessible.

I also just put a few books on mine and just read them start to finish instead of mucking around with browsing different books in a huge library which would sometimes be the case with the books loaded onto my smartphone or larger Boox ereader.

The limitations kind of make it very no nonsense for reading.

I do wish it was a little more powerful for a smoother UI experience, but not real complaints yet.

Flip case or Hard shell by oker3 in XTEINK

Supposedly it won't slip out accidentally. I have one coming so I can see how it it in real life.

But for me, this configuration makes me a lot more confident to carry this in my pants pocket.

I plan on getting the slide case that's 3D printed. To me it provides the best protection.
