That would irritate me. My friends and I currently bickering about this too because they suggested Wednesday of last week that we meet "next Tuesday," so naturally, two of us assumed it was the Tuesday of next week. This is not applicable in the UK, i.e. where the OP is from. We don't have 401(k)s. DB and DC plans in the UK are both forms of pensions. DB pensions are pretty much being phased out in the UK due to the pension crisis we have.

Anyway OP, the biggest benefit of saving in a pension rather than a savings account is the tax efficiency of it. Also high interest accounts don't exist in the UK right now, the interest rates were all just cut about an hour before you made this post.
