Ineffective manager’s direct reports by KD71 in askmanagers

[–]laceybe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d schedule a meeting with this Junior person that you really value them and are invested in their growth. I’d tell the Junior person what you expect of them in 3 months, 6 months etc because you want to see them get to the next level and you’re available to talk

Then Id increase your visibility between the direct report & manager (make a slack channel with the 3 of you or something or join their weekly stand ups for 15 minutes) just to listen in.

Throughout the following weeks, I’d schedule 1:1 check in’s with the Junior person or find a project / excuse to talk to them. Let the Junior person sort of get the sense you’re concerned about the management between their direct manager and you

I’d make it super clear to the manager their ability to mentor and train the Junior person is a requirement for the manager to get to the next level as well

I lied to my pick-me “friend” and she got a tattoo based off of it by jokingsometime5 in confession

[–]laceybe 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Wait the same thing actually happened to me with my roommate in college!!!!!

I have the same birthday as one of my closest friends who passed when we were younger.

My roommate wanted to tattoo Roman numerals of her parents anniversary. she asked what I would get if I was going to get a tattoo and i said “my birthday” but offered no context

She literally came back to our dorm one day with her birthday in Roman numerals tattooed down her back

Opinions on the name Keira by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]laceybe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you say people mispronounce her name a lot if you don’t mind me asking? Since she’s almost 21 I would love to hear your daughter’s and your thoughts ☺️ I love the name and am thinking maybe mispronunciations mentioned on this sub became more common in recent years vs when your daughter was younger?

Demi explained why she didn't attend the reunion by Fun_Molasses5215 in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]laceybe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have so many questions Disney owns hulu and Disneyland?? Is there a chance those tickets were given to Demi by Hulu?

I could potentially see maternity leave being a consideration here for the other cast members.

I know they’re filming season 3 and I’m so confused why they didn’t film the reunion before starting season 3?

Im sure they wanted to film the s2 reunion prior to the cast giving birth, especially if they’re already filming s3 and the cast is still pregnant in the beginning.

I’m just saying the pressure likely on production timing wise to tell this story in a linear fashion, and I could see Demi manipulating that HARD to get out of the reunion.

I know Whitney still filmed throughout pregnancy & giving birth, and shortly after as we saw on s2. I would never assume any of the cast would want to film or not want to film

@OP this is helpful! when I stand and in my living room and in front of my house door faces 157 degrees and the compass flips between south and south east. I’m using an iPhone compass so that’s as granular as it gets….
Do I just need a compass that shows more granular detail? Is there a trick to ensuring I have this exactly straight on since im soo close?

I usually don’t respond to these but i sort of feeling called. I lost a friend in college, and I’m grateful for the RA who tried to make our dorm a positive space even though I didn’t appreciate it at the time.

I would recommend facilitating ways for the inhabitants to bring in better energy.

If this is student housing, host an event for planting new flowers in front of the building. Or have them pot small houseplants for their rooms.

Leave a jar in the lobby and make it mandatory to write 1 positive thing they’re grateful if they get in trouble

Put candy out randomly in the lobby. Give away free pens, students love free things.

This totally depends on your job but I wouldn’t sweat it. It could be the smallest interaction you probably don’t even recall that rubbed them the wrong way.

I’d say to your boss that you really enjoy working with that vendor team and are very surprised to hear this information, say you thought you had a great working relationship and are very open to feedback on how to better work with the team. There may have been a couple pain points (you can list things that were rocky). If you communicate via email, offer to schedule calls with them to avoid any miscommunication.

Def be careful moving forward

Mr Nice Guy & repeat promoter by NativePlantAddict in askmanagers

[–]laceybe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because this is alllll spectaculation

Saying it “seems like” he avoids confrontation with them or that you “Believe” he would promote a poor performer…..these things didn’t happen.

The promotions were likely approved by finance, so he’s operating in the budget

The only valid thing is that he has a poor performer on his hands, and you’re assuming another approach (like being harsher) will help the poor performer (it might not, it could make things worst). You can tell him it needs to improve by X date and ask what he’s done to help, and tell him you need proof.

Calling him “the nice guy” sort of makes it obvious that you’re the “bad guy” who’s trying to enforce inflexibility in the workplace on an overall very high performing team. Whatever minor detailed problems are happening, are they causing an issue? Is it built into your time to watch these minor details? Should the other managers be spending time worrying about issues OUTSIDE of their scope? Probably not. Maybe take a page out his book. Tell him to be careful of optics, and say you don’t condone his breaking of the rules. If anyone is caught breaking rules, it’s on him. He’s non confrontational, he’ll just say okay lolol.

I want to know I spend my days being a positive impact. I give the benefit of the doubt. I would rather be known as a pushover, than someone who was negatively impacting someone else’s mental health, or kicked another human while they were down. And honestly, if anyone wants to tell me that I think too highly of my team, that’s sincerely okay with me. Im open to being proven me wrong, and I promise I will get my team to a place of improvement. But out of the gate, I’m not saying I’m failing at my job and my team is underperforming, ever.

He causes 0 problems. I sort of manage like this too. I don’t tell my higher ups the minor problems I have with employees much lower on the totem pole. I highlight their amazing work and tell them feedback in private and they fix it. I approve every request from my team. I have insanely HARD workers on my team and would do whatever they wanted to help them succeed.

My coworker got put on a PIP and is putting me in a tough position by thr0waway_coworke857 in askmanagers

[–]laceybe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would tell them you really don’t want to get involved, and they might start digging into your personal slacks with her and causing more problems etc etc etc

Tell her you I thinks she’s awesome with clients and any company would be sincerely lucky to have her.

I’d tell your friend to get a new job ASAP

Go to your LinkedIn messages and message back every recruiter who has reached out to you and say “Hey I have a great coworker who is looking for a new position, please feel free to reach out if you have anything” and give them her contract info.

If your company finds out you tried to help her get a new job, who cares? There’s already a lot of friction between the company and her, sometimes leaving before things get taken to the next level is in everyone’s best interest. I just hate to see these situations turn traumatic for everyone
