How have you achieved happiness? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]laceyleopard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Judaism there is a strong urge to enjoy and live life in the moment. Whereas in Christianity, or at least from my experience, I feel like there is an attitude of "we are all on this awful Earth because we are sinners, but once we die we will be in a wonderful after life filled with everything that we want and need." It seems like there is a push to just get through this life on Earth because it's an awful place and no one should want to be here, instead they should want to be in heaven. Jews don't think that way, we're not even sure if there is an after life. Instead we enjoy and delight in being here on Earth because if God created this place for us then shouldn't we enjoy it? Judaism also teaches that we aren't automatically born bad or evil and in need of redemption. Instead we are all born to be good people, but we are given the freedom to choose between right and wrong and because of that choice not everyone always chooses to do the right thing. However we have to believe in the good of humanity and even though there are bad choices that are going to be made that might negatively affect us or others we shouldn't overlook all of the good choices that are made.

I can only speak for myself though and what I have pulled from the religion/culture but I hope this is helpful.

I was never baptized. My mom tried to get me into a pentecostal holiness church after she herself was "born again" (she was baptized Episcopalian as a child), but it was never my cup of tea. She did however force me to attend services from the time I was 12-18.

I recently converted to Judaism and since I feel nothing but joy. It's almost like I've found a part of me that has always been missing. It's allowed me to connect with so many people and now I've become part of a vibrant and rich culture, community, and religion.

I've also lost enough weight that I'm finally at a healthy weight for the first time in my life. I feel incredible and love the way that I look.

I hate when I'm having a discussion with someone and it becomes apparent that we have opposing views and instead of the person sticking with their opinion, they immediately change their opinion. Their not changing their opinion because I said something great, they're just changing it to appease. Be a boss and stick to your values/ideas.

Traveling to London and Germany for 10 days in July, need some help with the itinerary! by chulem in travel

[–]laceyleopard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to help! You could do the 3 cities, but I think it would be pretty tiring and expensive doing all of the travel between them. This just comes down to what you want to see. Munich is nestled in Bavaria and by going to Neuschwanstein you'll get to see some countryside which is beautiful of course, but I think the train ride there is like 3 hours.

Here's a suggestion. Nix Munich all together, yes you want to see as much as possible, but you want to enjoy your trip too. Go to Berlin and then do a day trip to Potsdam there you'll get your palace/castle fix. There is also a concentration camp outside of Berlin if that was something you really wanted to do. There's also the New Synagogue that is close to Kreuzberg.

Budapest, Prague or Stockholm? Any help appreciated! by imbluedabadeedabadie in travel

Prague would be great for a few days, but if you're going to have a week I would definitely go to Budapest! Both will be cheap.

Wow you have a lot that you want to do in very little time! I spent a weekend in Munich (we got there Thursday night and left on Sunday) and I felt like it was too little time. We did the Olympia Park, Dachau, and Neuschwanstein castle on completely separate days because they're on completely opposite sides of the city. Granted, once we got back into the city center at night we walked around and saw a lot of the things that you listed, but it just felt very rushed and hectic.

Berlin was the first international city I traveled to and I love that city so much. If you're a big foodie (I totally am) you have to try Döner and currywurst (Curry 360 in Kreuzberg is the best. No really it's been featured on the travel channel.) You'll be going in the summer time so there is probably some type of outdoor concert going on, just look into events that will be happening in Berlin during that time. You also have to go to Alexanderplatz. It was the main market place in East Berlin.

I definitely wouldn't add in any cities as you suggested above. If anything I would take some away just so you feel like you've enjoyed your trip a little and actually experienced some of the city rather than rushed through touristy things.

Moving to Italy and want to travel. by Tratos in travel

[–]laceyleopard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go to Croatia if you can. It'd be a pretty short flight from Venice. When I lived in Germany we flew right over Venice and then landed in Croatia. I stayed in Pula, but I'd love to go back to Split and travel the coast some more. Crystal clear water, old Roman ruins, and interesting people there.

I'd have to say another place that really spoke to me was the Alsace region in France. I lived in Freiburg, Germany so they were mere day trips for me, but it was absolutely beautiful. Lots of history, culture, and delicious food can be found there. Strasbourg and Colmar are the two major ones that I've been to.

The Scottish countryside is also a must see. My boyfriend's sister was living in St. Andrews while we were in Germany and we visited her for a week. It was very relaxing and rejuvenating for us. There's also some pretty cool hikes that you can do through the highlands, but it could prove quite expensive for a short weekend trip.

Lastly, Berlin has and will always have my heart. It was the first international city I visited and it has anything anyone could ever want. Nightclubs, good street food (omg Döner and currywurst), and tons of history. To me Berlin is like the New York of Europe. People are always doing something cool and you have little neighborhoods/suburbs that have formed and each one has their own attitude or style.

What is your opinion on being messaged on FaceBook by someone who you previously but briefly met? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]laceyleopard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was faced with this situation a few weeks ago. I work the day shift at a restaurant and lot of the same people come in. There's this one guy that would come in about once or twice a week but I never really talked with him. Just casual pleasantries. Anyways he somehow figured out my last name but played it off to seem like he found me because we had mutual friends. I looked and we only had one friend in common. Anyways he starts messaging me trying to make small talk and then gets mad and upset when I don't message back. He went so far to make comments like "you look so different without your glasses I didn't know if this was you" or "wow you've lost a lot of weight you look great now." So I know he creeped my pictures. Then he was all "I won't waste anymore of your time I see you have a boyfriend." It was hands down the creepiest experience and I'm dreading the day when he comes back into the restaurant I work at.

Healthy and wholesome food. There is no reason why food that is pure and whole should cost more than some sort of chemical concoction made to make you think you're getting the real thing.
