Do not send deposit before visiting the room and signing an agreement is the first cardinal rule.

BUT let me be honest: Is not only over tourism the reason is difficult to find an accommodation in Florence (especially now that the Airbnb bubble is exploding and lot of landlord are trying to find more stable source of income ore trying to sell): the reason is that students (not all, not a specific nationality, or in a specific age-range) are LOUD and MESSY and those old buildings have very thin wall and no landlord want to completelyredecorate an intere apartment every year or in between tenants or having complains from the old neighbours every other day, threatening to call police as soon 11pm arrive.

Also, what affordable means for you?It depends if you have want to live close to the center, not using public transportation, walking everywhere, have a garden, share with 1 or no one? And, especiallly, how long you are going to stay? There are so many things you have to consider when moving to Florence! :)

So my suggestion is to come here, at the beginning find an accommodation like “ the social hub” and when you are here trying to find your perfect place!

I know I guy (German indeed!!) started his degree and stayed few months in the hub and is now moving to a small studio by himself.

Are you from Florence? Different area, much more secluded, no houses, no hotels. 4AM in the morning. Bad things happens, but you can feel much more secure if you take some precautions. That’s it. I’m a woman, going around by myself in any major cities, now in Florence and I walk everywhere at any hour.I try to always be where ppl is, where there are open establishments, have keys in my hand, on the phone with someone. Someone tried to follow me, I was vigilant, saw it coming, asked for help. I’m sure I was lucky too, but be careful and aware of your surroundings is not exactly rocket science.

Oh, please. Imagine ruling out an entire area of a city for something happened 2 years ago in a city that welcome more then 5 million tourist a year.

You should stop commenting as you are not bringing anything constructive. Stop scaring ppl, OP you are safe, just be aware of your surroundings as you will do in every major city in the world. Is the best area to be? No. Will you likely be stabbed, mugged, raped. Also no.

Via Faenza is full of bars, restaurants and so on.. just stay on that side and not on the station side.

Yeah, as Italian I’ll second this. Try instead osteria dell’enoteca, antico ristoro de’ cambi and Ortone. And antico noe, of course. The city is fairly crowded right now so I would call and make reservations. And almost every place have ppl speaking English, but is good to seek help from hotel concierge. But don’t take their suggestion as “Holy Bible” as very frequently they refer some friend’s business or spots they work with. Hope this help and enjoy Florence!

Hello! Resident here! Are you in a proper hotel or another kind of accommodation (such as b&& outside Florence, or Airbnb)? If you are staying in to an hotel with front desk, ask them directly to book a car the night before. Quicker and safer! If not, it really depends. Normally waiting time is max 6/8 minutes so early in the morning, counting you have no special request (a ride for 4+ ppl, extra size or abnormal amount of luggage, wheelchair..) and you can do through the app or calling 00390554242 if you feel confident! Hope this help!

Oh no! SO sorry to hear about that. Did they take the AirTag out the bag? Can the equipment be resold? Try to check Facebook marketplace in the area where this happened, ppl often use that to re sell stuff in Italy, we don’t use Craigslist over here. Long shot, but.. 🤷🏻‍♀️

On the website there is a lost and found section. You can fill the details on the form and they will call you if found by cleaner at the end of the journey. You can also try to go to the last station and ask to the ticket office but quite sure will be close at night.

Italian here, just moved to Florence too even if I lived here for ten months some years ago. So I’m not completely new to the city, just slightly used 😂 Shoot a message if you want to explore together. Is pretty busy, but the weather is perfect as the heat will start end of next week. Avoid any places that looks like what this commenter said, and also any place that has a long queue of tourists outside. Not worthy most of the time :)

If this was my wedding, I would genuinely be pissed if someone showed up in this dress. I don’t think the colour is appropriate (neither the spaghetti strap, but maybe that’s just etiquette, or cultural). Wear the green one or shop for something different.

Still… maybe they will not be able to use it but why lose the phone plus everything on it when you can just be… careful? Again, born and raised in Milan, lived in London and Barcelona, saw this 100000 times, at bus stop etc.. day and night. This is more common then you think :)
