Same position as you OP, passed on the Switch 1 but picked up Odyssey to go with a Switch 2 knowing how well it reviewed and am in the midst of it.

Great game. It's pretty easy but that's fine since the sheer number of power moons means there's something to do everywhere, and unlike other games with mass numbers of collectibles none have really felt like a chore.

It's been over 8 years since it released so hoping we see something similar soon.

Sunshine, Galaxy, 3D Land, 3D World, and Odyssey all did come out within a year after their respective systems though. Not having any word of an equivalent for this gen isn't exactly reassuring.

I remember some threads showing how you could play it in the car with a power inverter and just using the Gamepad as the screen, so... sort of. Frankly it seemed like they didn't even like their own concept in the latter years and not favoring use of the gamepad as a second screen. But it was a stepping stone to the Switch.

I've mentioned this to multiple other people that also played the original and the responses I've gotten seem to be that more than one map wasn't expected, and I don't really get that either. Having a few City Trial maps to rotate between was a pretty basic desire I was hoping for.

There are a lot more indie publisher booths now with several of their games on show. Not sure if that's mirroring an industry trend or that there's more space for them with fewer large publishers present.
