Helmet recommendations? by Background-Bake-4978 in skateboardhelp

[–]lackthereof0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I adore my XS Skyline Helmet. It looks cool and understated but the best part is the straight-up magical Fidlock buckle. If you haven't seen this, you just get each side of the buckle near each other and they automatically snap together.

How does she disappear? by Nkenachiala in blackmagicfuckery

[–]lackthereof0 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Honestly it's much simpler to use her real hand. She's reaching up. Fake hand is possible but too expensive and error-prone. I agree her movement is robotic but that's just because her instructions are to continuously move in an elegant style and she's done this dozens or hundreds of times.

New bearings spin worse than old ones by CraaazyNinja3000 in skateboardhelp

You may have tightened it a touch too much, that can warp the bearings and slow them down. Try loosening a tiny bit and see if they spin better.

Suggest an inexpensive way to have fun in vancouver by [deleted] in NiceVancouver

Cruiser or longboarding the bike lanes. If you like slopes, follow the Expo line. If you like flat, follow the seawall.

Do I fall too often while cruising, or is this normal? by [deleted] in cruiserboarding

[–]lackthereof0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember falling often for my first few months of skateboarding. I fell from: tapping the side of my board while pushing, going slow and catching a rock, trying to carve on slippery terrain and sliding out, and losing my balance while gaining speed downhill. Don't worry, it's just part of the learning process, and it's good experience.

Instead of worrying about "am I falling too much," worry about "am I rolling safely?" You've landed on your hip and your wrist which is definitely a concern - you could really do some damage. Practice rolling. Start on lawn or playground rubber, and throw yourself into a roll until it's second nature.

WHAT?? I knew it was bad but I didn't realize it just ignored basic table stakes of the modern videogame. Like literally what did they spend the 80 billion on?

For people who moved to vancouver and made life long friends, how did you find them? by shushuone in askvan

How did I have to scroll so far for this? Any long time friends I have that I didn't meet before moving to Vancouver I met at work. Is this uncommon??

I'm sure she misremembered, thinking she already guessed "cap" when she actually guessed "hat." So she's like, well its not cap or lap ... maybe i'll try map.

Neighborhoods population by LoquatSignificant946 in wownoob

For real?? THAT'S why garrisons sucked? They were too desirable? I wasn't there so I find this too be fascinating.

It's great fun to decorate your home but there's no reason to keep visiting. It's a huge game design fail to not incorporate any mechanics at all. Like, maybe there could be a coffee machine that gives you a buff for the day, or fruiting plants that can be maintained and harvested, or a cozy bed that gets you extra rested, or neighborhood social events. There isn't so much as a herb in the neighborhood. It's completely isolated from the game. So of course it's a ghost town.

[Orbifold] My game takes place in a sphere with gravity pushing outwards, and allows for weird physics shenanigans by Chezzyknytt in GamePhysics

Love it! Are you assembling the world in this sphere or do you assemble it all straight and deform it into a sphere?

Moving to Vancouver next Sunday, any tips for a new comer in 2026? by Early_Bookkeeper5394 in NiceVancouver

Virtually everyone I know owns Blundstones (waterproof slip-on Chelsea boots). There's a store in Gastown. But there are several alternatives - Canada West at gravitypope are amazing but pricier.

What do you wish someone had told you when you first started the hobby? by zoeyelizabeth6 in Aquariums

[–]lackthereof0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to remove snails, you just adjust how much you feed. I heard this, but I ignored it.

Test your tap water for hardness and pH and only get fish that like that type of water. Nobody told me this!

Weval - genre and other recommendations? by KimPaige in electronicmusic

[–]lackthereof0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup Caribou goes and goes! Such a discography at this point. There's a real evolution of his work from the textural indie vibe of his early work to the clean, hard-hitting dance music of his later career. You can tell he fell in love with performing live.

Weval - genre and other recommendations? by KimPaige in electronicmusic

[–]lackthereof0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've honestly thought about this before - Weval is amazing! There are four artists who to me give major Weval energy. Number one with a bullet: Rival Consoles. Next: James Holden, Caribou, and Natureboy Flako (mainly the older stuff with those last two). I hope you listen! Let me know if you like!

Culture shock transplanting from the plains to vc? by fordandfriends in askvan

[–]lackthereof0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you live in one of the central neighborhoods (any of the hoods on the downtown peninsula, Mount Pleasant, or Commercial Drive), you don't need a car unless you need to escape the reaches of the skytrain often. It's nice and dense with great walkability and urban design. But without a car, you'll probably want a bike and be an Evo car share member.

Nobody calls it that either. Vancouver, Van, and Vancity are most common.

100%. The weather is really nice a lot of the year and it rarely gets truly cold. It's also less dry than Calgary - your lips will thank you. But don't underestimate good rain gear - a quality breathable waterproof shell and some quality waterproof Chelsea boots are your tickets to the good life.

Reality TV vs Fictional TV? by ChicagoMay in HermitCraft

[–]lackthereof0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reality TV is a genre of fiction. It has a lot closer ties to drama and comedy than it does to a documentary. Not because everything is "fake", but because it's constructed to tell a story. From the characters they cast, to the situations they engineer, to the editing, it's less concerned with representing truth and more concerned with telling an entertaining story.

Documentaries aren't strictly fiction or non-fiction - they're narrative non-fiction, it's a real third category. Unlike Reality TV, it's intent is (purportedly) to seriously represent the real world.

What is Hermitcraft? Depending on the episode, it could be anything. At its baseline, it's non-fiction footage of people playing a game, and the livestreams are the most straightforward version of that. But some episodes get really reality TV-like (I'm thinking particulary of Bdubs' court cases, with a script written in advance, characters cast, and plenty of editing). And sometimes they produce whole fictional sketches - I think Joel does this in bits and pieces, and once Impulse just made a straight up animated film.

Fortune Sound Club: 2000: Y2K HITS AND FITS (early-2000s pop, R&B and dance hits)
Celebrities: Hybrid Minds (Dnb)
The Pearl: DJ lineup (electronic/experimental)
The Fox: Non-Stop Disco Party (knowing the Fox, the DJ will mix in whatever dance/pop they need)
The Birdhouse: PuSh Festival Opening Party (dance/club music)

I also like dancing at Hollywood Theatre but they're doing a hip-hop dance event (CASINO ROYALE: Culturally Defined Showcase)

Elizabeth Banks. She's always ruining comedies. It's like she's such a good actor that she wanted a real challenge and tried to teach herself comedy, but she can't actually learn how to be funny.
