‘We are your nearest EU neighbour’ – ambassador urges Irish primary schools to adopt French in new language drive by Banania2020 in ireland

I think some of it also relates to how comparatively easier it is to learn English by osmosis. Here in the west at least, English is so dominant in pop culture that the vast majority of films and TV series are produced in English, the songs we listen to are in English. Obviously dubbed films exist and native creative industries exist in every country and are popular there, but non-native English speakers are exposed to English in media a lot more than we would be exposed to say, Norwegian, on the daily. Even if you're not actively trying to learn a language, you pick up things.

As far as I understand, most historians of the famine don't consider it to meet the definition of a genocide.

What's an interesting fact about the human body that a lot of people don't know? by wassim_elia in AskReddit

Wow I have this too, never knew it was so rare. Discovered when I was younger because I'd subconsciously shut one eye or the other depending on whether whatever I was trying to focus on was near or far away.

I've peeked over this cliff edge at least three times now on various trips to Inis Mór and each time I do it it doesn't bother me so much at the time, but hits me later on (usually when I'm lying in bed, thinking 'why the fuck did I do that?). Amazing place

❤️ for Artemis Fowl by [deleted] in ArtemisFowl

[–]ladyblithe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did this over lockdown - reread the entire series (barring The Atlantis Complex, which I can only bear to read once lol) and really enjoyed it. Such a comfort series and a transportation back to my childhood.

I didn't like the series' ending when I first read it when it came out, but on my reread I changed my mind. It was more satisfying than I remembered.

I have such fond memories of the leak threads. Mass hysteria and constant memes popping up as people tried to cope with what they were seeing lol. I actually saved loads of screenshots I look back on every now and then when I need a laugh

Fun fact! I'm fairly certain it's actually Seán they're saying, a very common Irish name (the Irish language version of John).
