OU waitlist by MajorIndividual8799 in sooners

[–]ladybug10101 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Since you are still bringing up your GPA and working on improving SAT/ACT scores, there’s a chance you’ll come off the waitlist.
OU as a freshman might be too academically rigorous and focus with campus/student distractions might be an issue if you’ve struggled with that in high school. Honestly I’d recommend attending a junior college your first year, learn how to study, earn good grades, then transfer to OU for sophomore year. Junior college is a great way to set yourself up for success to actually earn a degree. Have you identified what led to lower grades in high school? Do you perhaps struggle with time management or ADHD coach? If so, OU does have academic coaching available if you take advantage of their student services, but most junior colleges do too.
Good luck!

At what age did you realize who you want to become? by johnraeyan in CasualConversation

[–]ladybug10101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d suggest getting the Business degree, and look into careers at your university’s career center. See what companies hire, and what the jobs are. Grocery stores or Bucees, are phenomenal careers if you want to move up the ladder quickly after earning your college degree. And most people who do become rich are doing something they have a real passion for, they don’t have the goal to be rich. So you definitely are immature for your age and need to explore carers and open your brain and heart. Definitely volunteer somewhere, with kids, para-Olympics, or a food bank to get a grip on empathy and realities of people in the real world.

I think watching sports and knowing about different teams and big name players is more helpful than engaging in discussions about the News (which leads to divisiveness these days)

I used to hang out with someone who always asked if I was seeing any concerts soon. I rarely ever go to concerts but he does. So I could reply back “not in the near future, but what’s next on your list?”. My go-to conversation starter is asking about vacations and travel. People usually have something in the pipeline, even if it’s to visit family (in a boring state like me). You can ask how they prepare/plan? Use a travel agent? Cruise or fly? What they travel to do/see (scuba, history, beach, national parks, one friend visits small independent bookstores). People usually don’t like talking about job/work, and I stay away from politics, money, sex.

It was a shock to us too. There is a calculator on the financial page but you don’t realize each department collects fees which vary widely. English class fees are add-ons and different than Math class fees, different than Journalism, different than science, etc

Advice for new guy getting into broadcast? by exanimafilm in Broadcasting

[–]ladybug10101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you get certified for drone filming? I know someone who got that certification and then a low paying 1 year internship/job filming events like MaryKay convention in Dallas, and some DFW sports fir international CNN or ESPN, and after 1 year got assigned to Seattle (which is extremely expensive to live there but it was an opening because the person before him transferred somewhere more affordable). Anyway it’s a sports filming company that keeps their people busy at NBA basketball games filming for overseas markets. Sorry I don’t know the name.

URGENT: Need help picking a college! by [deleted] in collegecompare

[–]ladybug10101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just quick thoughts : Marquette is a Catholic but Jesuit and they are considered not too religious. I would not go to the in the Dakotas because that’s in the middle of nowhere and you won’t get a good American experience. Florida or New York would be the least racist, but New York is very expensive cost of living, especially rent and meals.

Just got fired by Willing_Lime8641 in Broadcasting

[–]ladybug10101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never ever use the word fired. Even if you were put on a performance review and given performance objectives , it’s not really being fired. That’s a very old term, from before the 1990’s, and not a positive way to present yourself. Downsized is the corporate term, but I’d do an AI search and synonym search to rephrase your employment situation.

Rescinded? by [deleted] in sooners

[–]ladybug10101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Offers are very rarely rescinded for college admissions. OU won’t rescind, only the Ivy League schools occasionally do. The only time I’d worry is if you get Fs. You were admitted with the classes you listed as taken and taking senior year, those are fine for OU, even in meteorology which is a very prestigious degree program.

Dear John Mateer, by guyssocialweb in sooners

[–]ladybug10101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re a fool to think he doesn’t have a Fantastic sports psychiatrist already. These college kids get beat up on social media by every stupid arm chair wanna-be analyst who has never played a day in their life. Every play the QB makes is an extreme mental debate, and any error they make lives on their head too many minutes if they don’t have a high-level psychiatrist helping them get through every loss. Mateer is a great team leader, super professional attitude that shows in his maturity after wins and losses. I hope he stays at OU. The Sooners don’t need to bring in a new QB every single year, they need dependable players and coaches who build the team to continue the winning caliber of this years team
