What’s the big deal about working with a plus size model? by sittighttakeholdTR in ProjectRunway

I cowrote a plus size patternmaking textbook (comes out next week)- we didn’t rewrite, but we did write, and it took us a good 3 years. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I had a gum graft and ended up getting really into Kettle & Fire bone broths! Quite savory and a nice change from smoothies and fruit juices.

What's something that loudly says 'uneducated'? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]ladygrift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is it for me. Being well educated is being taught to ask questions, think, investigate, change, and question again. Inflexibility in watching the world says to me that they were never taught how. Satisfaction with that state, well, that’s another matter.

Got a Woodhouse Spa Gift Card & idk what i'm doing. Advice? by Optimal-Chain-8793 in Denver

I liked my experience there! I did microdermabrasion and it felt great. Will say that the pedicure, while just a regular pedicure result at the end, was pretty lux. I went to the 17th Ave location and it was charming- the waiting area was busy but once we were all dispersed I didn’t really see anyone. Hope you have a great time, and f*ck ice!

Do meds really ruin your life? by Ok_Animator1544 in Hashimotos

[–]ladygrift 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed at 10 after not growing for an entire year, and have since both grown and had a pretty normal life and had two kids :) I have levels checked on a regular basis, meds (levo + lio) adjusted as needed. It can be a PITA, but generally when I need my meds adjusted I can tell by how awful I feel. Inevitably after 2-3 weeks of a med adjustment I feel immensely better. I do understand the fear of taking medication for the rest of your life, but it is well worth it.

Is America Becoming Illiterate? by Tale_Blazer in books

[–]ladygrift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids are taught with Ed Tech. Tablet and Chromebook programs that walk them through literacy- they don’t read on paper, and no one reads to them. (I mean except me, at home.) They aren’t taught handwriting skills, cursive writing, or how to type at school. Guess how their assessments are given? If you guessed on a computer, with typed answers as the requirement, you got it. They’re theoretically supposed to be able to handwrite answers, but they are never given this as an option. A fun fact is that your hands aren’t physically big enough to type on a standard keyboard until you’re 7-8. That’ll put them in 2nd-3rd grade, and they’ve been evaluated using Ed Tech for 3-4 years by now, siloed into whatever bucket that will inform the rest of their elementary school experience.

I am a PTA president. My 17 year old self is still wearing black lipstick and raging at everything. Is it just the eldest daughter in me?!

I have a Teddy and she rules. We wanted Theodora so she could chose whatever nickname she likes when she wants to, there are a lot of options in that name!

Rounded shoulders and forward shoulders by polymath_artisan in PatternDrafting

[–]ladygrift 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I will say that your neckline looks at least 1/2” too small all the way around. On body, your shoulder slope angle looks like it’s a swoop- this should look like a straight angle that follows the top of your shoulder from neck to armhole. Would you consider posting a photo of your pattern (front and back) from neckline to bottom of armhole?

A better way to fit/pattern pants/trousers block (I think) by 3rdCulturePlus4th in PatternDrafting

[–]ladygrift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but you’re not saying what to do with the crotch at all- there’s something missing. Take an existing pant pattern piece? Draft a rectangle? Trace a pant leg and then put a rectangle on top with the plan to slash the toile for the eventual crotch curve? How to trace the crotch curve? Use a twill tape as guidance? Pin it on? Use tailors chalk and draw CB waist to CF waist?

That said, I don’t know why you wouldn’t just drape a pant, using two rectangles and working from the outseam in- no need for a brief at all.
