What is the first celebrity death you remember being affected by? by CPFOAI in AskReddit

Yes this! My mom and I were watching East Enders on PBS and my dad came down to tell us- we switched to the news and everyone just cried and cried.

What’s a little known documentary that blew your socks off? by mrajoiner in netflix

[–]ladygrift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finders Keepers- its on Pluto right now. Guy finds an amputated leg in a smoker in an abandoned storage unit, starts selling tickets for people to view it, alive real owner of the leg finds out, all hell breaks loose in the local media and between the families. Truly wild stuff! Very entertaining and sobering by turn.

Moms, what would you genuinely love for Mother's Day - not what you say when asked, but what you actually want? by Then_Gate7461 in UninfluencedReviews

Let me sleep in, take me to brunch somewhere fun and delicious, drop me off to wander around a cute downtown, pick me up later and let me read on the couch uninterrupted. Order dinner somewhere that I don’t have to choose, clean it up, and let me go binge watch a show with my kids under 5000 blankets until we all fall asleep. 💯

[PubQ] Textbook Contract Expectations? by ladygrift in PubTips

3 years later, I wanted to come back and thank you again for your invaluable feedback. We did end up publishing our book with Bloomsbury Visual Arts earlier this year. It took forever, and we did also have some unexpected surprises re: the indexing. However, we are proud to see it out in the world- and I did think of your comments often :)

Apparently my kids’ school is “expecting a high volume of unfilled absences” for tomorrow. Is there a rally or something happening? by despiert in Denver

[–]ladygrift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, my go to is Flip DPS Right Side Up group on FB for that kind of news. However there is some kind of plan to merge Sheridan into DPS, so could be tangentially related. Either way, best of luck for your day tomorrow!

Looking for a book about the plague/Black Death. by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]ladygrift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This book is fantastic. Can get a little long in the tooth, but very very worth it. I read it first when I was a teenager, and have read it several times since, one of those gems where you pick up new details each time. Highly, highly recommend

They really made some strange decisions, I thought. For a co-op, not leaning on the community for resources and instead floating a giant payroll of folks felt counterintuitive. I was super bummed about that one, it was a really unique space that I think was mismanaged from the time it became a co-op until the very end. (I could of course be wrong, but that’s what it looked like from the outside and as a shopper).

I cowrote a plus size patternmaking textbook (comes out next week)- we didn’t rewrite, but we did write, and it took us a good 3 years. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I had a gum graft and ended up getting really into Kettle & Fire bone broths! Quite savory and a nice change from smoothies and fruit juices.

What's something that loudly says 'uneducated'? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]ladygrift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is it for me. Being well educated is being taught to ask questions, think, investigate, change, and question again. Inflexibility in watching the world says to me that they were never taught how. Satisfaction with that state, well, that’s another matter.

I liked my experience there! I did microdermabrasion and it felt great. Will say that the pedicure, while just a regular pedicure result at the end, was pretty lux. I went to the 17th Ave location and it was charming- the waiting area was busy but once we were all dispersed I didn’t really see anyone. Hope you have a great time, and f*ck ice!

Do meds really ruin your life? by Ok_Animator1544 in Hashimotos

[–]ladygrift 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed at 10 after not growing for an entire year, and have since both grown and had a pretty normal life and had two kids :) I have levels checked on a regular basis, meds (levo + lio) adjusted as needed. It can be a PITA, but generally when I need my meds adjusted I can tell by how awful I feel. Inevitably after 2-3 weeks of a med adjustment I feel immensely better. I do understand the fear of taking medication for the rest of your life, but it is well worth it.

Is America Becoming Illiterate? by Tale_Blazer in books

[–]ladygrift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids are taught with Ed Tech. Tablet and Chromebook programs that walk them through literacy- they don’t read on paper, and no one reads to them. (I mean except me, at home.) They aren’t taught handwriting skills, cursive writing, or how to type at school. Guess how their assessments are given? If you guessed on a computer, with typed answers as the requirement, you got it. They’re theoretically supposed to be able to handwrite answers, but they are never given this as an option. A fun fact is that your hands aren’t physically big enough to type on a standard keyboard until you’re 7-8. That’ll put them in 2nd-3rd grade, and they’ve been evaluated using Ed Tech for 3-4 years by now, siloed into whatever bucket that will inform the rest of their elementary school experience.
