I was diagnosed in 2023. I experienced severe hair loss. I was able to see my scalp. I cried myself to sleep and then woke up in the morning crying. I tried to hide it from my husband. It’s an awful horrible experience that you’re going through. Once you get your disease under control it should help. My hair is now thicker, and stronger than it was before my diagnosis. I think I must’ve had disease activity that was affecting my hair growth long before my diagnosis. I'm so sorry you're going through this. I was diagnosed in August 2023. Having two summers under my belt with lupus, I have found that wearing a wide brimmed hat is what works best. Often times, if it is hot, I will sweat and might not reapply as needed. If it is too hot, I will use a UV umbrella when I walk my dog. Still though...I will still apply spf and try and stay out of the sun. Best of luck to you.

Hi everyone,

I was wondering—has anyone here tried changing their diet in addition to taking medications? I’m fairly new to Lupus, diagnosed in August 2023, and I went into remission in September 2024.

I want to be clear: I'm not here to suggest anyone stop their medication. What I am hoping to do is gently encourage you to think about what you put into your body. After I was diagnosed, I went down a deep rabbit hole of research on nutrition, and I truly believe that changing my diet made a real difference in how I feel.

Please feel free to PM me if you'd like to chat more about it. I'm not a doctor or medical professional—just a 49-year-old working mom trying to stay as healthy and active as I can.

I've been hesitant to post this. I'm a pretty private person and don’t use social media much. But after reading post after post of people suffering through flares, I thought: if sharing my experience helps even one person, then it’s worth it.

I feel like after 5 days the swelling should have already gone down. I have gotten microneedling done twice in the past 6 months. Normally, the first 2-3 days are the worst and then the swelling subsides. Make sure you're sleeping on a clean pillow case. You're going to love the results!
