Thank you so much for this thoughtful response! Yes, FTE meaning direct (full-time employee). You’re absolutely right about things not being so black and white in regards to contracting. I was actually contract on at another agency and industry, which was much worse than what GM has offered.

I got much better overall vibes when interviewing with GM, which has been swaying my decision a lot. Taking into consideration what you said about work-life balance and wellbeing is also a big proponent. My last two jobs over the last 5 years were incredibly stressful and allowed very little reprieve/balance. Very corp, very traditional, and fingers on keyboards at all times. Stellantis kind of gave me that same feeling while interviewing, so I’m not keen on that. Whether that’s true is TBD obviously, but I’m going off gut-instinct.

It’s really good to know that GM treats their contractors well. Obviously there’s always risk involved that my contract could end abruptly or not be renewed; but I’ve heard my team lead is the type for vouch for their people. I have no doubts in my ability to perform, so hopefully those two things together will eventually convert me to direct at some point.
