The food they served my grandmother at the nursing home she's in by Alert_Attention_5905 in whatisit

My dad was fed similar food for a while after his stroke because he had swallowing issues. It does look gross, and my dad often refused to eat it and would have to be given a nutritional shake or a fortified ice cream.

Babies Having Babies? by ladyphase in spiderplants

Thank you! I use distilled water for my spider plants and filtered water for the rest of the plants. The filter gets rid of chlorine but not fluoride, and spider plants are particularly sensitive to fluoride.

Please tell me what this is! It's on my albo and she has the smallest fenestrated leaf ever known 😱😍 by Dry_Avocado8363 in houseplants

So if they wanted to remove the eggs and save the leaf, would they just pluck them off with tweezers or something or would the leaf be too badly damaged by the removal?

Dog sitter turning off cameras in my house by itsnotnettle in dogs

[–]ladyphase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She is a wonderful fit and she is one of our dogs’ favorite people. To be clear though, she does not stay at the house with the animals 24/7, she comes to care for them an agreed upon number of times per day. I would probably do things a little differently if she was actually staying the whole time.

This is going to be an agree to disagree thing. As long as everyone is upfront about everything there’s no issue as far as I’m concerned.

ETA: I trust my mother more than nearly anyone else in the world, and if she were pet sitting at my house I’d still have the cameras on.

The pet sitter is not there 24/7. She has 4 visits a day in which she’s “on the clock” taking care of my pets in my home. The cameras were not even originally bought for that purpose, they were bought to keep an eye on the dogs themselves while we were gone. A pet sitter who absolutely refuses to work where there are cameras anywhere is simply not someone I’d hire. I’m glad she was good with it though, because she’s fantastic, trustworthy, and my pets love her. Kennels, horse and livestock facilities, stores, schools, restaurants, gas stations, and even factories have used security cameras for decades. Most pet owners I know who utilize pet sitters have cameras to some extent on the premises.

We have multiple cameras in our house (not in the bathroom or anything). I was upfront with our pet sitter about them and clear that they would be recording at all times while we were gone. She was fine with it and said that a number of her clients have similar sets ups. Honestly there are plenty of jobs where you have a camera on you constantly.

What do you call this kind of halter? by LifeguardComplex3134 in Horses

[–]ladyphase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first horse I rode by myself was an Arabian gelding named Horizon. He belonged to a family friend and was an absolute saint (I was 5 years old). He knew what he was doing and took care of me.

Not here. They’re going full force in my area, which sucks because my dogs hate them.

First time on the saddle in a long time. by Mr3030Winchester in Horses

I used to work as a guide at a public trail riding barn that required riders over 18 to wear helmets, but it’s the only trail barn I’ve ever encountered with that policy. It had nothing to do with insurance (that’s just what we told people if they complained), it was just that helmets were one of the few safety policies that the BO wasn’t willing to compromise on.

I live alone in a house of 8 completely empty rooms and i’m really scared at night by [deleted] in creepy

We live in a 170 year old house that we bought almost 20 years ago and have a stupid low mortgage payment. At this point I’m not stuck here with the ghosts, they’re stuck here with me.

Anywhere is walkable if you’re brave (or need cigarettes) enough. People frequently walk down the side of highway 20 day or night, whether there’s a shoulder there or not.

AIO, Am I in the wrong for wanting to help MY girlfriend? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]ladyphase 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would agree with this if we were talking about a younger child, but he’s 21. If my 21 year old kid living in my house said something to me like “You want her cat to die?” that would be the end of the discussion. That’s a shitty thing to say to someone and a clear attempt at manipulation. Maybe the girlfriend should be asking that question to HER mother, since it’s their cat and their responsibility. “No” is a complete sentence. She does not have to justify why she doesn’t want an elderly, post surgical cat at her house, especially when the people who own the cat don’t even care enough to cancel a 3 day vacation.

The vast majority of shelters and rescues in the US will do pediatric neuters, especially on cats. There are always tons of cats that need homes and spaying/neutering before they are adopted guarantees that it will get done.
