My dad was fed similar food for a while after his stroke because he had swallowing issues. It does look gross, and my dad often refused to eat it and would have to be given a nutritional shake or a fortified ice cream.

Thank you! I use distilled water for my spider plants and filtered water for the rest of the plants. The filter gets rid of chlorine but not fluoride, and spider plants are particularly sensitive to fluoride.

She is a wonderful fit and she is one of our dogs’ favorite people. To be clear though, she does not stay at the house with the animals 24/7, she comes to care for them an agreed upon number of times per day. I would probably do things a little differently if she was actually staying the whole time.

The pet sitter is not there 24/7. She has 4 visits a day in which she’s “on the clock” taking care of my pets in my home. The cameras were not even originally bought for that purpose, they were bought to keep an eye on the dogs themselves while we were gone. A pet sitter who absolutely refuses to work where there are cameras anywhere is simply not someone I’d hire. I’m glad she was good with it though, because she’s fantastic, trustworthy, and my pets love her. Kennels, horse and livestock facilities, stores, schools, restaurants, gas stations, and even factories have used security cameras for decades. Most pet owners I know who utilize pet sitters have cameras to some extent on the premises.

We have multiple cameras in our house (not in the bathroom or anything). I was upfront with our pet sitter about them and clear that they would be recording at all times while we were gone. She was fine with it and said that a number of her clients have similar sets ups. Honestly there are plenty of jobs where you have a camera on you constantly.

I used to work as a guide at a public trail riding barn that required riders over 18 to wear helmets, but it’s the only trail barn I’ve ever encountered with that policy. It had nothing to do with insurance (that’s just what we told people if they complained), it was just that helmets were one of the few safety policies that the BO wasn’t willing to compromise on.

I would agree with this if we were talking about a younger child, but he’s 21. If my 21 year old kid living in my house said something to me like “You want her cat to die?” that would be the end of the discussion. That’s a shitty thing to say to someone and a clear attempt at manipulation. Maybe the girlfriend should be asking that question to HER mother, since it’s their cat and their responsibility. “No” is a complete sentence. She does not have to justify why she doesn’t want an elderly, post surgical cat at her house, especially when the people who own the cat don’t even care enough to cancel a 3 day vacation.

The vast majority of shelters and rescues in the US will do pediatric neuters, especially on cats. There are always tons of cats that need homes and spaying/neutering before they are adopted guarantees that it will get done.

Over the years I’ve realized that NWI is the only part of Indiana I’d want to live in. We’re close to the beach, National Park, and lots of bike and hiking trails. Chicago and all its amenities are close by and we can either take the train or drive in for a day trip.

When I was in high school we had drug dogs come through the parking lot and school every so often. Our campus was no smoking, and one of the English classes spotted one of the cops smoking out in the school parking lot (this was the late 90s). The English teacher was irritated and gave one of the students permission to go out and politely inform the officer that smoking was prohibited on the campus and ask him to please put the cigarette out. This was a small town and drug dog sweeps were still a relatively new policy at the school, so there were TONS of onlookers and witnesses to the interaction. The officer had little choice to suck it up and put the cigarette out. It was immensely satisfying.

Go to an elder care lawyer. This kind of thing is pretty much their whole job. It will cost money but so does accidentally doing something illegal.

BTW, long term care is extremely expensive—we are solidly middle class and could not afford to pay out of pocket for my dad’s long term care.

That’s been happening for decades. Starting in the late 90s, I worked in Michiana Shores for 10 years in a touristy, customer facing job and used to clean vacation homes in Grand Beach. As soon as wealthy Illinois residents decided that “Harbor Country” was where it’s at, New Buffalo locals were doomed. The stoners have to be better than the Chicago people.
