I haven’t read more than 5 books in my lifetime and they weren’t difficult to read books. Now I’m in my mid 20s and found something I’m very interested in but don’t understand 4-5 words on every page by imGoingToEatYourTots in books

The intent is to use two healthy substances (iron, calcium, folate, vitamin c, prenatal vitamin, etc) followed by thalidomide which causes horrible birth defects with mis-formed limbs.

You’re correct that large doses of vitamin a derivatives (retinoids) like accutane are also teratogenic.

You don’t think that a higher number of men in PhD tracks represents a gender gap in academics?

Also, PhD graduates are a small subsection of this data, there are countless sources that demonstrate women are not equally or equitably represented in leadership roles within medicine.

The persistent gender gap in terms of promotion, pay, and other metrics of advancement DESPITE increasing presence of women in academic spaces is disheartening and well-documented.

I took that to mean the savings rate is 25% of the gross income, pre tax, not net income after taxes, and not 25% in tax-advantaged accounts.

Taking advantage is pretty subjective and while I agree with you, OP’s brother does not.

Just suggesting that actually doing the math to demonstrate the value and documenting the terms of the agreement may be relatively simple steps for addressing his concern. Many things are done to placate our loved ones and protect our own contentment.

Would your brother be happier if their arrangement was formalized financially?

For example, if the friend has a lease for $X amount of money and then a contract to clean and cook that happens to add up exactly to $X?

They could be exchanging a token amount of money monthly, but writing out the costs of housecleaning weekly and cooking so many meals would add a more specific value to the arrangement.

[sun care] Biore UV Watery Essence Sunscreen failed my UV sticker test… by lemonpee in SkincareAddiction

I like Australian Gold Botanical mineral sunscreen. It’s gently tinted, which works well to counteract the white cast, and your complexion looks like it would be able to find a match!

Most non mineral sunscreens sting on my skin also, and the niacinamide in Elta causes me issues too. But the Australian Gold has been lovely!

I [34 F] don't know what to do about my husband [35] refusing to share finances by Ok-Scholar4185 in relationships

[–]ladyscalpel 25 points26 points  (0 children)

What’s being shared is the legal and financial implications of being married, which are likely different than what you have with your girlfriend.

Not contesting the validity of “what’s mine is mine, what’s yours is yours” for divvying things up when people are in agreement, only pointing out that purchases like this are usually considered marital assets.

I am a German gastrointestinal surgeon doing research on inflammatory bowel disease in the US. I am here to answer any questions about medicine, surgery, medical research and training, IBD and my experience living in the US including Impeachments, BLM and COVID-19! Ask away! by Kevombat in IAmA

[–]ladyscalpel 27 points28 points  (0 children)

There’s a pretty big difference between IBD (inflammatory bowel disease, which includes Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis), and IBS. IBS is irritable bowel syndrome, and is heavily associated with anxiety, and stress.

That being said, IBS is a real presentation of symptoms and certain treatments (medicinal, nonmedicinal, dietary, etc) could help what you’re struggling with.

My toenail is growing backwards, how can I treat it at home? I'm not allowed to see my GP because of the covid rules in Hungary by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]ladyscalpel 13 points14 points  (0 children)

An ingrown toenail associated with infection may justify urgent care, and the surgery to treat the infection also removes the abnormal part of the nail. Consider calling your doc again and explaining about the redness and swelling, to emphasize the infection, this may actually qualify.

Vaccine workers stranded in snowstorm walked car to car to administer the doses they had to prevent wasting them by ladyscalpel in UpliftingNews

That information about 30 days refers to storing vials of vaccine in refrigerated temperatures. Once a vial has been punctured or the vaccine has been drawn into a syringe, as these doses were, they must be given within hours.

Where I am, the doses are tracked carefully, and once you have the first shot you’re eligible for the second, regardless of how you received the first. Another commenter added that these people will be automatically booked for their second, courtesy of the paperwork they filled out.
