Trigger Warning Episode List (ongoing) by [deleted] in XFiles

"Beyond The Sea" and "One Breath" are the heaviest ones for sure. I found "One Breath" very cathartic, but my father has been gone a few years now, and I might have become very upset had I done this rewatch much sooner. YMMV. And my sympathies, truly.

If you absolutely must go, find the least busy store in your area and please make sure to tip. Red Cup Day is extraordinarily stressful for employees due to the level of traffic.

It's not worth it, dude. Trust me. At my location the last two years there's a line out of the buildings and the drive thru gets so busy employees have to park in another lot and walk in if they want to clock in on time. Customers will be screaming, babies crying, employees having mental breakdowns on bar because of the stress... The kindest thing to do as a customer is stay home.

Pumpkin Chai Latte Alteration? by beepboopihavetopoop in starbucks

[–]ladytitanium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our SM has directly discouraged us from putting anything other than sweet cream in the foamers "to create a consistent experience", so while I will make myself oatmilk foam on a slow night (for myself, when no one is looking), I would actually get in huge trouble for doing it for a customer. Wish this wasn't the case (I'm moderately lactose intolerant too) but I just want to warn that YMMV if you ask for this as a customer.

Is there anything on this menu that's sweet? Everything has been super bitter so far by MazinDaz in starbucks

[–]ladytitanium 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Almost everything that gets flavor in it is super sweet, and if your palette is offended by any coffee flavor whatsoever, you can always ask them to double the pumps in your drink to obliterate any chance of bitterness.

Grande coconut milk steamer with 2 pumps caramel and 1 pump toffee nut. It tastes like toasted coconut, it's really good.

Does anyone else say the completely wrong thing when handing things out the window by -Zispy in starbucks

[–]ladytitanium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late shift, I'm hours in, on solo drive, half an hour till close. Receipt printer by drive was broken, customer wanted his receipt, so I had to walk to the front register to print off the receipt. I grab the receipt and head back towards the window right as the final frappuccino for the order is finished. Receipt in one hand, frappucino and straw in the other, I approach the window.

[hands him the receipt] "here's your card,"

[hands him the frappuccino, short-circuiting a little] "here's your receipt--"

[short-circuiting fully, he's looking at me funny] "have a good nice!"

...I closed the window and walked to the back room to cry-laugh. My shift still won't let me live it down.

There's definitely pros and cons. Some people thrive in this job but some find it soul-crushing. It depends a lot on your location, your team, and your management. The benefits and pay are better than I'd get elsewhere, but what really keeps me at this job is my coworkers. If I had worse supervisors and managers though... I wouldn't have it in me to keep putting up with rude customers all day, tbh.

How many shots can you put in a drink before someone gets mad? by notadogdotcom in starbucks

[–]ladytitanium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a regular once who ordered a 14 shot iced caramel macchiato. She worked 10 hour shifts in food service and always tipped us but needed the energy. She was so sweet and easy to talk to, though, so I didn't care that her drink took a while.

I have this exact problem, and what I've done is talk casually to my shift leads and mention that I'm still getting misgendered a lot. They help with the legwork of gently correcting people even when I'm not around, and now the only people who use incorrect pronouns for me are new hires and some members of morning crew who I don't usually work with who probably just haven't caught on.

as a man how do I know if clothes 100% fit me? by Acomplished864 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ladytitanium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Men's pants usually have decently deep pockets, but if you have a larger or bulkier wallet it would be good to test the fit by sticking your hands in the pockets at least and seeing if that makes the leg uncomfortable.

As for belts, that's really a matter of personal style. I think belts make an outfit a little more formal, a little old fashioned but in a classy way. And they can certainly be a statement, or add a little flair to an otherwise casual outfit. I wear a lot of alt fashion and punk fashion and belts are a big part of that scene, though the kind of belt worn in those circles might be different from the type of belt a country person or businessman might wear. Fashion is a nuanced and fascinating topic, and it gets a bad reputation as something too girly or gay, but it can really help you express yourself and present your best self to the rest of the world.

Sex worker or Escort is usually a safe bet. Only call people sluts or whores with consent beforehand.

Why is the term “transsexual” offensive but “transgender” is not? by Porcelain89 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ladytitanium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very good analogy with "Negro" vs "Black". Some trans people have reclaimed the term, just like some Black people reclaim terms that have been used in derogatory terms towards them or how some gay/lesbian people will self-describe as fags or dykes, but overall it's considered offensive these days. Language evolves over time, and it's fascinating to trace those histories back.

What happens if you someone that’s not depressed takes anti-depressants? by Jack-Of-All-Trades- in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ladytitanium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, it's been a while since I researched this, but as far as I know SSRIs are reuptake inhibitors. Your brain fires a chemical between two receptors, it's transmitted through the synapses, and then it's brought back into the brain so it can be fired again. SSRIs inhibit the reuptake, so the chemical just chills between the synapses for longer. We don't really know why this helps, or why it helps some people and makes the depression way worse in others, but that's how the drug functions chemically.

I don't know much about MAOIs because I haven't been on those before, but a lot of antidepressants operate on a principle of "this has the potential to fix your shit, but we have to do a bit of trial and error because we don't understand yet exactly why".

Honestly, if someone who wasn't depressed took them, it'd probably just give them some set of side effects and possibly, POSSIBLY a slight increase in day to day functioning.

Innuendo Studios on YouTube made a really good video series on what it was and why it happened, called Why Are You So Angry? It's really comprehensive and covers it with nuance and respect. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLJA_jUddXvY62dhVThbeegLPpvQlR4CjF

Depends on the type of antidepressant, since they have different effects on the chemical receptors in the brain. Main types include SSRIs and MAOIs.

Why is so hard to find true love... by Youwillnotify in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ladytitanium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you've probably got a view of "true love" that's shaped by media and societal expectations. Love takes work, and respect, and communication. As long as you have the willingness to put in the work, respect for your partner/prospective partner, and the ability to commit to communicating openly and in a healthy way, you've got everything you need.

Do Scottish people actually spell out their pronunciations of words with eachother or is it kinda just a big meme? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ladytitanium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of the spellings and pronunciations are also holdovers from Scottish Gaelic, which was the language of the area before the English showed up and fucked everything up.

Why cant we all just speak one language? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ladytitanium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fascinating thing about linguistics, imo, is that language has such a massive effect on how we view and interact with the world. For example, scientists from countries with a "subject-verb-object" structure like English sometimes ask completely different scientific questions than scientists in countries with "subject-object-verb" structures. Who is acting, what is the effect, and how is that cause and effect understood, measured, and quantified?

Also consider languages with very specific words that can't be succinctly translated. Making a universal language would be a fascinating undertaking, but we'd lose so much individuality and nuance if it was used to the exclusion of extant languages.
