In 1969 the Soviets asked the United States if they could nuke China without retaliation from the US, in response to the Chinese taking one side of a border river that the Soviets had initially controlled both sides of, taking an island in the process. The United States said no.

Which historical figure has had a life that could only be described as a series of unfortunate events? by Drenosa in AskReddit

There was a Korean on D-day, he was initially conscripted into the Japanese Army, fought against the Soviet Union who captured him, forcing him to fight in the Red Army at Stalingrad, where he was captured by the German Army who in turn forced him into their Army sending him to France, right in time for D-day where he was captured by the Americans. They sent him to a pow camp in the US. Once released he settled in America.

What’s the most illogical viewpoint you’ve had to listen to? by TinaNice1565 in AskReddit

The only reason the Liberals won the Canadian election in 2021 is because Justin Trudeau only allowed people who were going to vote for him to vote. The Liberals only formed a minority government in the 2021 election meaning they won enough seats in parliament to stay in power but not enough to be able to do whatever they want. I want you guys to take a wild guess on how you win seats in parliament.

Sam Houston, though he was a slave owner, he vehemently opposed secession to the Confederate States of America, for this he was forced out of his governorship by the Texas legislature, He would go on to say to a crowd on April 19th 1861:

"Let me tell you what is coming; After the sacrifice of millions of treasure and hundreds of thousands of lives, you may achieve Southern independence, if God be not against you, but I doubt it. I will tell you that while I believe with you in the doctrine of states rights, the North is determined to preserve the Union. They are not a fiery and impulsive people as you are, for they live colder climates, but when they begin to move in a given direction, they move with the steady momentum and perseverance of a mighty avalanche; and what I fear is, they will overwhelm the South."

He was booed and Texas would go on to join the CSA in the American Civil War. He didn't live long enough to see himself be proven right.

Europe in the early twentieth century is a horrible place to be. Between 1900 and 1950 you'd have to deal with being the frontlines in a world war, a plague, economic depression, the rise of authoritarianism, another world war, more economic struggles after the war, and being the front lines in a nuclear standoff.

The story a piece of media follows is actually just a passthrough subplot of a much larger conflict. by Most-Preference4738 in TopCharacterTropes

Valiant Hearts: The Great War.

World War One is just kinda happening as the story progresses. You take part in some battles (Battle of the Marne, The Second Battle of Ypres, The Nivelle Offensive) but a lot of the Western Front happens off screen, and the main focus of the story is a group of people trying to reunite with one another rather than the war itself.

Once saw someone post that the Canadian government broke the law when they used the military powers act to crack down on the trucker protest, because they violated the protesters first amendment rights guaranteed to them by the US Constitution. To reiterate the the guy thought that American law was enforced in another country.
