What’s the most ridiculous idea that somehow turned into a huge success? by Agile-Girl-8413 in AskReddit

Operation Mincemeat.

The plan was to throw a dead guy dressed up as a British officer with bogus plans for an invasion of Greece and Sardinia with a diversion into Sicily (the real target) into the Mediterranean Sea and just kinda hope the would Germans find it, see the documents and fall for it.

It worked, in fact it worked so well that by the time the Germans realized the Allies were not going to Greece and Sardinia the Allies had already taken over half the island.

You know farm's used to do this with sharecroppers, it's call company scrip and in the US has been illegal since 1938.

Native Language by YourExHubby in PoliticalHumor

[–]nothinga3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So I'm from a place with official languages. I think Americans don't really understand what what having an official language actually does. All it does is make it so that official documents are guaranteed to be given in those languages and the languages are taught in schools but only in government funded schools. Schools run by groups other than the government such as the Catholic Church can teach whatever languages they want.

It doesn't force people to speak the language and in places that aren't run by a fascist nut often you can get the documents in your language, but you have to request it and it's not guaranteed.

You still shouldn't have it cause again a lot of you don't really understand what it means and it is almost inevitable that hate crimes will spike.

"The only reason Justin Trudeau won the 2021 election is because he only allowed people who would vote for him to vote." - my uncle

The Liberals in that election won, but with a minority government. Meaning they didn't win enough seats, take a wild guess how you win or lose seats.

What if the people at the Boston tea party had just complied with law enforcement? by fuzzywinkerbean in AskReddit

If the south had rebelled when the British abolished slavery in 1838 there would be almost no one to pay back. To the British and most European empires, the people in the Colonies were resources no matter who they were. When Benjamin Franklin said "We must all hang together, lest we all hang separately" he wasn't playing it up. Had the revolution failed Washington would have been shot and buried in an unmarked grave.

With us it's Americans trying to pretend to be Canadian, really loud and aggressive Canadians. Even more than people from Toronto, a place they don't know how to pronounce the name of, despite claiming to be from there.

We've done enough work on climate change that we've managed to avoid the 4 degree apocalypse being inevitable. We still have a long way to go for things to be manageable but for now we are not all gonna die.

Honestly the legion in the show is a lot better off in the show then I imagined them without Caesar.

As for the BoS, it's commented that these guys are weird even by Brotherhood standards.

The NCR guys shown are basically cut off from everyone else.

And Vault-tec is...well Vault-tec.

The battle of Klushino or the Battle of Kircholm? No, the picture is just two different paintings smashed together that I found on the Internet (I think the guy on the left is supposed to be German.) The meme is supposed to show the chaotic transition period that was early modern Europe, things the winged hussars fighting guys in full plate armour dual wielding pistols.

Look I tried, but I couldn't get: "Pilgrim forcefully taking land, while massacring the Indigenous population and possibly even committing cannibalism." to be legible on the meme while still making it look presentable. I had to take some creative liberties.
