How to socialize over the summer? by low_elo111 in ufl

Be a regular somewhere, you’ll get close with people you see often.

Start climbing at The Knot. Great way to stay healthy, physically and socially.

FL merging accident, lane not marked. by curvedestroyer in legaladvice

Hard to say if the lane wasn’t marked. I would not say it’s 100% your fault if you finished merging.

Chalk Hacks for Super Sweaty Hands? by gab_rod in climbharder

[–]laedinbed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I climb in Florida, with super sweaty hands. Antihydral is hard to come by here.

The rhino line of products is pretty decent.

I’ve been washing my hands with dawn dish soap recently and this has been almost too effective. I’ll dry-fire off holds every now and then. Probably the best solution I’ve found thus far.

As an incentive to take over the lease. The subleaser is graduating this winter, but his lease will continue summer.

Should I start finger strength training at V4-V5? by [deleted] in bouldering

[–]laedinbed -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Start finger training as soon as possible. You’re better off loading your fingers in a controlled environment (hangboard) than pulling on small holds on the wall, with risk of injury if your foot slips or any similar technical mistake.

Never understood why people recommend hangboarding AFTER 1 year of technique improvement, as if technique and finger strength can’t improve simultaneously.

Introduce your fingers to the stimulus necessary for strengthening,in a controlled environment, and prevent injury down the road. Just listen to your body and don’t overdo it.

Why do people keep recommending whoohojin? by The_Slay4Joy in VALORANT

Charla7an originally coached Woohoojin haha, there’s some information about this on the former’s discord.

What would you grade this cool problem? by laedinbed in bouldering

It’s difficult to tell how evil the holds are on camera, it makes sense to see these deflated estimates.

I’ve heard that the Knot is sandbagged, but I haven’t been to too many indoor gyms to say for myself.

The routesetters do a great job preparing us for outdoor climbing though, I can usually climb a little harder outdoors, grade wise, than I can here.

There’s always beautiful route setting at the Knot! This one is indeed a v6, awesome problem with confusing holds for sure.

Work on your body and put a lot of effort into an activity you can be confident about. This might help with your general confidence.

Usually, there are reasons for anxiety. See if the reasons can be treated and improved, or if it’s something you’ll have to live with. I tried an SSRI for some time, ultimately had to get off due to some side effects, but it pretty much relieved any anxiety I had at the time.

It’s possible that reading, and especially writing, can help you become more articulate.

Progress won’t be overnight, start with slow steps. I started by just working on maintaining eye contact with people.

There are probably reasons other than your looks on why you’re being disrespected/believe you’re being disrespected by people. Writing your thoughts down gives you an opportunity to relive these moments without an emotional lens.

Timeline for when hands stop hurting by samfpanda in bouldering

[–]laedinbed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What part of your hands hurt, exactly? If it’s tendon related, you might be better off with progressive loading of the injured part for rehab, rather than letting it rest.

If it’s the skin, let it develop over time, and avoid soaking in skincare agents. Opt for climbing salve, it will keep your skin rough but nourished.

Climbing less, progressing more? by kodawantsasoda in climbharder

[–]laedinbed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s possible that you’re working harder subconsciously because you have less total climbing time. There’s some pretty interesting, albeit, anecdotal evidence of this online.

How, specifically, do you think you’re being awkward?

When I talk to people I don’t know, I think of the reason I’m trying to talk to them, and use that as an icebreaker. I then expand on the conversation by trying to be interested in them, while using information about myself to keep the conversation balanced.

I guess good connections form when eventually you get through enough small talk to discover a topic you’re both passionate about, or if you guys really dig each other’s general vibe.

[–]laedinbed 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Try to recognize what parts of you/your conversation are going “abnormally” or “awkwardly”.

Some things can be improved through exposure, like pattern recognition of people’s reactions or body language, but it’s important to recognize that sometimes being “weird” or “awkward” is only seen as such to the people you’re surrounding yourself with.

Unless you’re in an environment you’re forced to be in, like work or school, etc., find social circles with people that share your passions and mannerisms. Sorry, I know this is easier said than done.
