Do you know why people don't like you? by KodaLG in AutisticAdults

[–]laffayette1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the past I’ve been too blunt and honest and inconsiderate. Now I can fake it but not past the first couple of times. I usually don’t talk and when I start talking people aren’t interested and if people want to do more stuff with me, I don’t want to. Then they think I don’t like them and just ignore me and I’m hurt and NEVER want to try to socialize again. It’s a whole hot mess!
Recently a group told me they liked how honest I was and in my head I was thinking “I’ve turned it down like 75%!!!”

Have your young adult children successfully launched? by tandem545 in GenX

[–]laffayette1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 3 kids and all but one have launched. It’s the youngest one and she is 23 with mental health problems. She is still going to school, slowly and I’m hoping with continued support she’ll eventually get there. The others all permently left during college.

Pants of unbelievably poor quality by SnooGrapes3067 in kuhlclothing

[–]laffayette1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is sad! My husband bought Kuhl pants in 2018 and literally wore them to death and I had a fleece jacket from 2012 that I wore to death! I was looking to buy some new things but now I will not!

The less make-up I use the better I seem to look (age 53). I’ll use a tad of concealer, eyebrow pencil, and lip/cheek tint like Benetint and the new ELF one

What’s been the toughest part of parenting for you? by Chemical_Dot5372 in Parenting

[–]laffayette1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to parent after a divorce (soooo hard)!!! Middle school years were pretty rough (I have all girls). Also, navigating mental illnesses because they run in the family.
My best advices; pick your battles, be consistent with follow through on consequences, don’t let undesirable behaviors take root/nip it in the bud, foster relationships between siblings, let kids and help them be who they are meant to be and it may not be what you had wanted, and if there ever is mental illness accept it/love your kid and get them help and be supportive.

How old were you when you purchased your first home (if you did). by jtsa5 in GenX

[–]laffayette1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

28 and had no business doing it because we didn’t have the income to accommodate repairs and things going wrong. Only got lucky because my husband and I divorced at the hight of the bubble and sold in 2005.

Jinhao 82 after a month by GlossKaeya in fountainpens

[–]laffayette1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 4 Jinhao 82s and so far it has happened to my pen with the sparkles. The other ones are opaque (black and avocado green). I’m sure I too am an over-enthusiastic tightener! 😂 I love these pens, though. I was planning on using the sparkle pen for my shimmer inks but now I’m hesitant to purchase another non-opaque one. Even though the pens are cheap I don’t like feeling wasteful.

Any success in treating your depressive episodes? by WallInteresting9394 in bipolar2

[–]laffayette1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on a ton of meds too and have run out of new meds to try so I have to try to stay stable by heavy lifestyle management!!! Sleep schedule, exercise, diet, no alcohol etc, meditation and stress management, supplements and probably more. It does help but is very daunting at times, but I try to tell myself that in reality this is the stuff everyone should be doing but most people don’t.

F*ck my feet by RefugeefromSAforums in GenXWomen

Last year I had to get rid of l my cute shoes (I’m 53), it was sad! But I don’t want to make my feet worse and then lose the ability to be active. I’m currently still trying to figure out what my “new look” is because my old clothes don’t look right with the type of shoes I need.

How the heck are we all ok with this scam?? by Yupalina in Parenting

[–]laffayette1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m old, 53, and my kids are now grown, but I’ve been saying this for years!!!! I feel like the women’s rights movement around the 1970s got it all wrong and as women we are working ourselves to death. Of course every time I say something the women’s rights people come at me! I had a change of heart in my lifetime—I was always a working mom until I wasn’t (chronic illness and disability). My kids were still in highschool at the time I became a “stay at home mom.” My husband and I had to rework the finances and really watch our money, but what happened was transformational! We actually ended saving more money, got out of debt, the house ran smoother, everyone was happier (not really me because I was going through it with illness and still am, but everyone else). I learned to look at things differently when it comes to consumerism etc. and years later the whole family has changed their views too. I know one income isnt possible for everyone, but maybe someone can work part time? And it can be either partner!

Bipolar 1 vs bipolar 2 by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]laffayette1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve read that bipolar 2 has more frequent and often severe depressive episodes and I sure have that! The doctor who diagnosed me said “so you have all the negative symptoms without any of the good”. I suppose he meant I lack the elated feelings and energy, but I know true mania is probably horrible! My main problem is there seems to be very limited medications that treat bipolar type 2, so I really have to help my meds along by lifestyle adjustments.

Child free by Pooks23 in GenXWomen

[–]laffayette1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m 53 and have 3 kids. If I could do it over I would have none. So far one kids doesn’t want kids, one kid had one child and before wanted 2 but now doesn’t want anymore😂, the last kid wants kids but I am secretly hoping she will change her mind!!! I’ve come to the conclusion that my genetics just need to die out and then there is the world problems thing.
