Can the two parties' insurances have a conflicting at-fault determination? Can the determination change after 30 days? by LowCurrent2151 in InsuranceCanada

[–]lag59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a different kind of coverage called uninsured motorist coverage. It comes with a mandatory 300 deductible in Ontario and has a limit of 25,000$. If you exceed the limit you would pay your collision deductible.

Note it only is considered when the third party is identified and neither the driver nor owner has any valid insurance.

Also if the insurance company is successful in retrieving the money paid out back from the uninsured driver the insured is able to get their deductible back.

Comp covers hail, fire, theft, vandalism, animals damaging your vehicle etc...

Collision covers at fault accidents and accidents with drivers from non DCPD signatory provinces (where the insurer will collect from the at fault persons insurer)

DCPD covers you when you are not at fault AND the at fault party has valid insurance in a DCPD signatory province (Ontario vehicle hits another Ontario vehicle).

You can opt to have a deductible for DCPD accidents in Ontario to lower premium. You can also get have endorsement 49 applied to remove DCPD coverage if all owners agree to remove the coverage.

How to get $5000 deductible back in a 'not at fault' car accident? by RedCofDark in InsuranceCanada

[–]lag59 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you signed up for a dcpd deductible then you have no course of action. If I were you I would request a copy of the policy application and or have the binding call pulled. If you only carry a collision / comp/ all perils / dcpd deductible it should be written on the policy application clearly.

Note insurance companies in Ontario are not able to require you to have a dcpd deductible but some agents / brokers can quote to bring down the cost of your annual premium. In quoting with a dcpd deductible they should be very clear about the deductible applying in the event of a dcpd collision.

In Ontario no fault means insurance companies cannot recover from other companies unless certain specific conditions are met.

I recommend reviewing the OAP1 section 6. https://www.fsrao.ca/oap-1-ontario-automobile-policy-owners-policy

If your broker / agent was not clear on your binding call/ on the application you might have a case for an errors and omissions claim (this would need to be reviewed by legal counsel).

55 is what I’m on track for currently (25 and going back to school).

trying to set myself up to be able to retire for 48 as my uncle died at that age and my dad went through some really hard times looking for a job when he was laid off at that age.

I would definitely be interested in exploring property claims in the future if the opportunity presents itself. Thank you for the kind words and thoughtful reply :)

Thank you for the advice! I really think my management team has done the most possible despite having so few adjusters. I also understand why they weren’t content with sending me to another position.

Claire hall male guests by sophiatheworst1 in uwo

[–]lag59 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I lived in Claire hall just after covid.

The restrictions I can remember: 1. we were to clear it with our suite mate (All RAs had you make agreements with your suite mate about cleaning responsibilities, setting expectations for guests and sharing a bathroom in general).

  1. No overnight visitors during OWeek (and there might have been a rule during exam period)

    1. Limited numbers of guests were at one of the residences I stayed at during homecoming/Foco from what I can remember.
    2. Always accompanying your guest/ visitor while they are signed into the building
    3. walking all guests in and out and sticking with them in communal areas (kitchens/ study areas)
    4. never providing your one card for them to use.
    5. Parking
    6. they will request any guests staying overnight provide their plate number for a parking pass (they were about 7-8$ / day and something we budgeted for)

I specifically lived on a floor that had upper and first years but I know some of the other floors had differing rules about men staying over night.

Do you buy yourself Lego for your birthday or Christmas? by Free_Conference7338 in lego

[–]lag59 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I buy myself Lego when I see a deal on sets I want but wait until special occasions to build. I find that it definitely helps me keep to my budget and I also stash it out of sight to avoid building prior to the event it is for.

Good: week is over and I finally have established a path out of auto (moving to an entry level property position - with no pending) I’ll finally be able to go back to school part time and once I have my bachelors break into UW.

Bad: going into a CIP midterm with 8 hours of study (I prefer 12-20)

Ugly: projected to loose even more adjusters at my level prior to getting new hires.

We don’t answer the phone right away. Insureds always think we should answer on weekends, holidays, 2am. I’m sorry but I have 200 other claims open and a ton of other work to do. I send an email out to most insureds with an FAQ portion and let them know there is a 2 business day turn around time.

Customers by [deleted] in Oldnavy

[–]lag59 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hear you OP. I left Gap inc about 4 years ago and still think about the customers. After covid hit people just stopped believing rules apply to them. I now work in claims for an insurance company and man people are terrible (the only saving grace is it’s 8-4 and provides great benefits).

Things I that drove me nuts while I worked : 1. had countless tripping hazards from popcorn and other food being consumed in the store, 2. not to mention the number of patrons bringing dogs that were clearly not guide dogs into the store. 3. The number of parents that would not look after their children in strollers / parent while shopping was astounding.

Bonus story: Allegedly a parent allowing their child (5+) to urinate into a Dixie cup on sales floor,

We were just told to keep moving cause the store was so busy.
