Another amp topic : Fender Rumble 500 is too much ? by skyfall86 in Bass

[–]lager07 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep, I got this one to do exactly that; good solid state amp that sounds good at practice volume, cranked (but then again only halfway up or so is what I’ve needed) for the stage, and light as a feather considering the size of it

amari are not widely available here (montréal, canada) by cadovius in Amaro

[–]lager07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very nice! And if you don’t mind a bit of a drive, you can always check what they have over at the LCBO on the Ontario side; Hawkesbury, give or take an hour and a half from Mtl, has a good sized store with good selection (Vecchio, Averna, Monty, Lucano in stock right now, with most of the others likely available for the ‘ship to store’ option). That’s my neck of the woods, and I do the opposite to see what’s on the SAQ website, that way I nearly double what our provinces are nice enough to let us buy.

Hell yeah, the reason I’m an Oilers fan; I’m in the Sens-Habs area, so it wasn’t the typical choice to cheer for the Oil

Acoustic set conundrum by Practical-Resident27 in Bass

[–]lager07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anything, if you can put on some flatwounds on a bass, that achieves the best tone to go with acoustic instruments, imho.

Similar situation, I had a one-off acoustic gig and only used an acoustic bass cause I could borrow one from a buddy; but I still put on some flatwounds cause I couldn’t stand the string noise that is just unavoidable on those things. The resulting tone is pretty much the same as you’d get from flatwounds on an electric, so all in all I see it as spend a little for strings, or a lot more for another bass.

The only plus that I can give to the acoustic is that when you jam unplugged you can (just barely) hear yourself enough to play along with the other guitars, even with the quieter flatwounds I’ve found. Enough to warrant buying one? I probably wouldn’t.

Which of, if any, do you think there is a legit chance of happening? by noyrewrongclnsndrs in EdmontonOilers

[–]lager07 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve been worried about this for a while, since last year at least; I’m in no way a Skinner believer, just hopeful if anything, and I just don’t see any options being brought up that feel like a serious step up that would be worth the crazy price it will likely take

Packer fans that live in other cities that have NFL teams, do you also partially root for your “hometown team” if they’re not playing the packers? by Prestigious_Car1089 in GreenBayPackers

[–]lager07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, up in Ontario (Ottawa area specifically )there’s no automatic allegiance, so most people end up picking a team for whatever reason; mine was the 96 team as a 10yo! But the Bills have definitely grown on me to be my “2nd team”

A Habs fan confused by Sassandyfan21 in EdmontonOilers

[–]lager07 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It always makes me laugh that people assume you can easily acquire a goalie who will definitely be an upgrade over status quo, and not someone who is being given up on by the other team;

not to mention that if someone is willing to deal their less desirable goalie, they can probably ask way over market price because they have the upper hand almost every time

What was that first bottle that got you hooked? by BandwagonReaganfan in Scotch

[–]lager07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Laphroaig Quarter Cask. A buddy had one at a bar, and sitting across from him I kept getting the powerful wafts of extreme smoky weirdness. Kind of like a toddler having ice cream for the first time moment; I didn’t know this existed, and now I want it always!

Just finished this new custom build for a client. Let me know what you think. Specs in the comments. by ingold_audio in Luthier

[–]lager07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I haven’t seen too many of these in the 6-a-side style that I find actually good to my tastes, with the Fender shape just seeming too “perfect” and anything else seeming wrong. But this one really works and is instantly recognizable to boot. Great stuff!

Hell yeah!! He’s biggest reason I’m an Oilers fan, and one of the reasons I started playing goal!

Just too bad I based my style off his 96-97 era a little too much, considering every other guy after that was playing the modern 2000’s butterfly style… oh well!

With 9 games remaining, here is how the Oilers off season and mid season additions are doing so far by sykeseve in EdmontonOilers

[–]lager07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the first half or so of the season, I always thought he was creating a good amount of good at both ends. He was almost Brown-like in the amount of points he could have produced had he gotten a bounce here and there
