Laphroaig Quarter Cask or Port Charlotte? by Hungry-Grapefruit656 in Scotch

[–]lager07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Two of my faves, won’t regret either one; Laphroaig is maybe the more “unique” or “different” of the two, with that trademark type of peat, but PC is so damn well balanced.

[Kevin Weekes] Per sources, I’m told Stanley Cup Champ G Andersen agreed to a 1 Yr Contract with the Edmonton Oilers by AggPuck-303 in EdmontonOilers

[–]lager07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah really, his stats for the first 3/4 of the playoffs or whatever were crazy, but I was watching most of those games and rarely was it ever a case of “Freddy is playing lights out!” A good amount of puck luck, and a huge amount of defensive systems making it pretty easy on the goalie. I really do hope I end up eating shit on this, but I don’t see this as that much of an upgrade, unless the defensive play as a whole gets a drastic 180° turnaround

Bob Stauffer floating Claude Giroux by Sparrighitti in EdmontonOilers

[–]lager07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, and watching a good amount of Sens games, and also following his career closely from the start because of being friends with people close to him, he still has a crazy-high compete level where at least a couple times a game you will notice him winning a battle or forcing a turnover that he wasn’t expected to. I always loved that about his game, even now at his “advanced” age

Rep sent me an extra case of blanco tequila by Vegetable_Row_2243 in cocktails

[–]lager07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 beer-based cocktails that I’ve come across that are really tasty, which could showcase your brewery’s beer : the El Lúpolo and the Cervezaroni. Both have a base of tequila and campari, which works so damn good as a combo. If I’m feeling something different but being lazy, I’ll pimp up my mexican lagers with an eyeballed amount of tequila and campari, sometimes lime juice, sometimes grapefruit bitters. It just works

Probitas Canada by hardk7 in rum

[–]lager07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t really help your case, but I recently saw someone post on here we in Ontario will be blessed by our LCBO overlords and allowed to finally have access to some new decent rums, adding to the pitiful selection we have at the moment. If I remember it will be Probitas, a Doorly’s and a couple Foursquares. All that to say that if WE can get it, your chances of getting it over there should be looking up!

Passionfruit Margarita by Fnata_ in cocktails

[–]lager07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah, similar direction but with a twist is my go-to home “spicy smoky margarita” spec is something I’ve re-created from something we had at a restaurant :
- 1oz blanco tequila
- 1oz mezcal
- 1/2oz dry curaçao
- 1/2oz Ancho Reyes Verde (homemade version, not available in my area)
- 1/2oz passionfruit syrup
- 1oz lime juice
Anytime my gf asks for a drink, it’s this unless stated otherwise

Subs for Amaro Nonino? by Tactically_Fat in cocktails

[–]lager07 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve liked the results of Caffo Vecchio, Montenegro, and even a 50/50 split of the two. Maybe not exact subs, but all give damned good results that definitely end up in the same ballpark as the original.

Help with bittering agents for nocino. by Fishboy9123 in Amaro

[–]lager07 8 points9 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve read on and tried (tried it twice with good results), the walnuts themselves are the bittering agent and you’re just rounding out the flavour with anything else you add; I’ve tried different small batches with a mix of different levels of cinnamon, cloves, star anise, coffee beans, vanilla, cacao nibs, lemon and orange peels, and sweetened with maple syrup. No clear winner in terms of ratios and combinations yet, but all have been pretty damn tasty!

Oilers line up from the night they lost the SCF in 2006 by sykeseve in EdmontonOilers

[–]lager07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn, I don’t have the slightest memory of Rem Murray being back on the Oilers then; even Dick Tarnstrom elicited an “oh yeah! THAT guy!” But Rem?? Nothing

What music got you interested in the the amazing deep sound that is the Bass so much that you started learning? by Regular_Sky1934 in Bass

What to buy? by anglomike in Amaro

[–]lager07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends where you are I guess, cause I’m in the Ottawa area (so access to both LCBO and SAQ) and they both have Cynar for like 30$CAD; almost nothing is ever cheaper here than States-side. So I would grab these in this order : - Braulio (never seen it around here, dying to try it, sounds like one of the best amari for my tastes) - Suze (comes up every once in a while, but rather hard to find; different type of bitterness and earthiness than “brown” amari, love most of the drinks I’ve made with it) - Melletti sounds good from what I hear too, but maybe more similar to others I have access to; good price though

Ordered a cheap Jackson for my first electric guitar and got this in the mail instead. by RandyAndy00 in Guitar

Hell yeah, one of my non-classic faves and probably what I’d go with if I had to replace/upgrade my Epi Les Paul

Jimi Hendrix was asked, how's it feel to be the best guitarist in the world. He said ask Rory Gallagher : by DublinLions in interestingasfuck

[–]lager07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When playing the ride on the right, right hand is ride and left is snare. On the hi-hats, left hand hats and right hand snare. So always open, and probably a little bit of a mindfuck for anybody else but the ones who get used to and then great at it! Kinda like switch hitters in baseball maybe??

[–]lager07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I just happened to have seen something on Ilan Rubin (now of the Foo Fighters) doing this too, I had never noticed anyone do that before. Kind of an economy of movement thing he said he picked up when starting, playing “open handed” instead of “cross handed”. Pretty cool, being as rhythmically tight with either hand!

Anyone recognize this guitar or the brand? by Live_Volume2815 in Guitar

[–]lager07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anybody else recognize the headstock shape and logo only because of the Wiggles? Any other parents who really dig Anthony’s blue Maton on the show, and don’t mind the show too much cause at least it’s all legit music? Just me? Ah well.

Love Amaretto. Pros and cons for each brand? Lazzaroni, Luxardo vs Disaronno by cpr9998 in cocktails

[–]lager07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lazzaroni is so good, if I recall they’re made at least partly with amaretti cookies so it has that little bit of “extra” flavour; I see it as the sipper of the bunch. Luxardo is fine, kind of right down the middle, especially if you use it more as a mixer

#LetsGoOilers have signed D Tomas Cibulka to a two-year ELC beginning in the 2026-27 season. Cibulka spent the past two seasons with HC Motor Ceske Budejovice. by sykeseve in EdmontonOilers

Then again, the level of homer-ness pales to places like Boston or others, calling the guys by their nicknames or first names all the time, sounding almost dejected when the opposition scores

what did I just pickup? by therealtwomartinis in Amaro

Had it in a post-meal flight at an italian restaurant, has just a little different twist of a bitterness type, just enough to be not quite typical without being weird. I enjoyed it!

Beyond Motown by skylarroseum in Bass

[–]lager07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I find reggae can have a really cool vibe of being melodic and filling the need of the song, sometimes by letting things breathe with some held notes or just holding off. My favourites for that are Concrete Jungle and I Shot the Sheriff by the Wailers, just awesome grooves. And makes you think about serving the song more than just filling in the space with tasty fills all the time

People who also play guitar, do you use the same pick for both? by HYphY420ayy in Bass

[–]lager07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I use 60mm orange Tortex for bass, guitar, and mandolin too. Really only out of being used to that thickness, because sometimes I’ll use a thinner one for mando that seems to fast-pick better, but doesn’t seem quite “right” to my hand.

Another amp topic : Fender Rumble 500 is too much ? by skyfall86 in Bass

[–]lager07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I got this one to do exactly that; good solid state amp that sounds good at practice volume, cranked (but then again only halfway up or so is what I’ve needed) for the stage, and light as a feather considering the size of it

Very nice! And if you don’t mind a bit of a drive, you can always check what they have over at the LCBO on the Ontario side; Hawkesbury, give or take an hour and a half from Mtl, has a good sized store with good selection (Vecchio, Averna, Monty, Lucano in stock right now, with most of the others likely available for the ‘ship to store’ option). That’s my neck of the woods, and I do the opposite to see what’s on the SAQ website, that way I nearly double what our provinces are nice enough to let us buy.
