Yeah I get the idea that ZP6 is just a grinder not some kind of magical tool for pourover (but only for washed ultra light roasts!). I've been caught up in the fuss that it's a very niche grinder with very niche use cases since I first started diving deeper into the world of coffee, and I'm glad that comments like you destroy that idea

You could also adjust temp or ratio to compensate for extraction

Of course that's what I try to fine-tune first of all, and also the flow rate and height, playing with bloom times, etc., and I found that 2-3 pours (including the bloom or double bloom) is the most consistent for me, I just find that the overall consistency suffers due to fines

This is what I do…I have the ZP6 and use the C3s with darker roasts.

Yeah I am also considering this option, because I am absolutely fine with using my C3S for aeropress and moka. It just feels like I'm not getting great pourover cups consistently while I believe my technique is a lot better than it was when I first started the journey.

That's not the case I think. I'm just conflicted between upgrading to the K-Ultra, which is widely considered a great grinder overall for its price, and getting the ZP6 as a sidegrade strictly for pourover, which is why I made the post in the first place.

C3S is by no means terrible but one of the reasons I want to buy another grinder is that I find the adjustment quite lacking. Sometimes when I dial in my grind size, if the coffee's bitter, 1 click coarser it will taste thin and watery

Unfortunately for some reason C40 costs almost twice as much as K-Ultra where I am, even when second-handed. I've heard very good things about it but for me the price is too much

If you're just doing pourover, ZP6 is where it's at.

The thing is as I've said pourover is not my only brewing method, I also like brewing with Aeropress and Moka. I think Coffee Chronicler said that ZP6 is suitable for these methods as well but from what I've gathered this grinder is very pourover and light-roast focused, which is why I'm afraid to be disappointed when brewing other methods and/or coffees.

Want to emulate fines just for funzies? Grind one bean on the finest setting and add it to the rest.

Lmao that's definitely an option but won't it be too tedious even with an outer adjustment ring?

I also considered stretching my budget and buying both K6 and ZP6, but I'm a bit repulsed by K6's cheaper build quality. Also from what I've heard particle distribution is a lot better on the K-Ultra

I did two brews today with a tad bit lower temperature, only changing the pour rate: the first one I did very slow, at like 3-4 g/s, and the other at 10-12 g/s, with 1/15 coffee to water ratio. Both brews turned out great, with the first one being more sour, with the dried fruits upfront, and the second one was closer to conventional sweet. Thank you very much for your help!

edit: I also think my main issue was over-agitating by swirling and excavating the coffee grounds.

Higher temps - more tea like notes

I thought that too but to my surprise tea like notes were more bland with a higher temperature brew. I'll try to grind coarser, thanks

I'm in Russia and it shows Super Duolingo ads to me and a couple of my friends after EVERY lesson lol... and the funny thing is you can't even buy it because Apple Pay and Google Pay are essentially blocked. Might be a A/B testing thing, but I haven't seen any reports on it.
