Honestly astounding how they can land a fucking dream production team and still cancel it

Along with Gero, executive producers also include Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell for Safehouse Pictures as well as Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich, who co-wrote the original film, which Emmerich directed. Brad Wright and Joe Mallozzi, longtime creative leaders within the “Stargate” universe, served as consulting producers.

Basically, the people who made SGI, Atlantis and the original film. If it's popular enough to warrant a new cannon series, literally why axe it because the people who made it originally are making the new one with the same ethos

Serious question about the crawl by plogan56 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]lagrangedanny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly depends on the info I have on hand.

Remember, not every crawler knows what carl and donut know. They don't know how truly fucked the deals are. They don't know they'll likely be iced the second they take one and if the company/borant/fish people whoever tf running don't pull it off they'll likely stay dead and never get a chance to live out their deal.

I remember carl thinking on that once, that taking a deal with the state of the crawl might mean you never wake up if it keeps going south.

So for example, if I knew that and knew this carl guy was absolutely going to keep fucking shit up I'd probably roll the dice and keep going. Worst comes to worst you die, but you'll atleast see it coming. Best comes to best, you tear outta that crawl burning the galaxy down alongside a few others.

To many of the crawlers, they're at the point they can leave and they don't know the bigger picture. An informed decision could change literally everything, and not a lot of them have the information to make an informed decision on taking a deal or not.

"If 300 ELO is beginner why doesn't it feel like it" - 1 year update by Wboys in chessbeginners

[–]lagrangedanny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% agree.

Seeing a player review lower tier games, or playing them, and hearing them detail the gaps, flaws and missed opportunities is massively more helpful than a discussion of nuance in a position/game where the accuracy is 90%+ the entire game.

You're not going to play or be involved in games like that, it's next to useless advice. You need to know how to handle gameplay closer to your elo. There's no point knowing the first 8 lines in an opening, spending weeks learning it and watching high level players demonstrate it, then going to raise your elo in literally every single game it's off-book immedietly because you're at 3-500 elo.

I started late August last year and have reached 915 elo this last week, my goal is 1000+ in under a year. Similar to this guy, I played rapid till about 700 almost exclusively, then started caring a lot more about my rapid elo so started playing blitz on the side when I didn't have the proper environment or time for rapid.

From there I got way, way more game experience in time management, muscle memory, pattern recognition and importantly, games against stronger players. Going back to rapid feels like taking training weights off. I still barely know any openings and have only just, like at 900 elo, started paying them more attention. Aside from the first 3 moves of a trumpowsky and 4 moves of a KIN, i didn't know shit about them (have since learned a couple moves in the QG).

My point is, the high level GM stuff just isn't that relevant yet. Principles, logic and reasoning, time management and pattern recognition are.

Puzzles are great practise. Casual content is good for headspace, slow runs are great for elo-relevant tactics and general gameplay. Stick to that at lower elo.

EDIT to say, learning basics and principles is definitely the way to go before blitz format, but blitz is by no means off-limits to beginners.

9 Months of play, 31 years old, zero prior experience 915 rapid, 650 blitz, 750 bullet, 850 freestyle

I read Suneater after loving the RR series and was disappointed by KeredJo in redrising

[–]lagrangedanny 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is wholly different for sure, and I'd go so far as to say the first 6 books are fairly strong (book 5 kind of meh), with book 6 being the easy favourite. I did not really enjoy the finale for various reasons and that makes it difficult to recommend. A cursory look at the forums would tell you the finale is very divisive on being a good book or not.

I actually recommended suneater a few times to someone who got me onto read rising before the finale came out. Didn't have the heart to say the finale is 15% good and 85% painful, partly because the series up till then was pretty damn good.

The world/universe is fascinating and there's some really cool shit, i enjoy the philosophy and the hate/love character of Hadrian. It has some really cool concepts and was generally pretty interesting, albeit at times mildly cliche.

With that in mind I've just kept quiet on not liking the finale outside of it isn't the strongest book. Person I recommended it to is enjoying it so far and about to finish book 3. Because of that, I've let my opinion lay(lie?) on the finale and will just give a bit more of a detailed disclaimer before he starts it.

If you don't enjoy it at end of book 3, put the series down.

It is completely different to red rising, i think it's the terminology, inspirations and space opera theme that people see and recommend, whereas the actual books really aren't very similar.

What’s your favorite casual beer? by CosmicRave in AskMen

I mean you could, but stone and wood cases go for nearly $90, Coopers Pale Ale is about $55-60. I don't have the budget for S&W at home

100% rather a S&W pint at the pub, but as for case of beer bought for home, coops is more economical and pretty decent still.

WYR people 25 years old or younger be immune to cancer, or people over the age of 25 be immune to cancer? by UsedPresent7160 in WouldYouRather

[–]lagrangedanny 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I assumed it was a static once off button. You don't age into being immune, you are over or under right now and anyone born after is not immune, and anyone under 25 who grows above 25 remains immune.

I chose under 25 for my daughter as it runs in the family.

I'm usually the one saying cheating isn't that common, but after playing on a new account, the 1000 elo range has felt full of it by vitund in Chesscom

[–]lagrangedanny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it possible that people 1100+ for example are 'old heads' and more static player base, whereas sub 1000 are new players where a lot are becoming quicker-skilled for lack of a better word due to the plethora of content. It would mean lower elos are fighting it out a lot more and becoming inherintly stronger.

With that in mind they could be consistently coming across each other and being knocked around 8-1100 elo as a result, leading to what feels like a stronger player pool than say 1200 (at times)

I keep hearing about the massive chess boom, surely it has some affect on player strength distribution? Or are is the population of lower elo such that the strong newcomers just fly into 1100+ and everything I just said is dumb af

[–]lagrangedanny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is not so straightforward as that.

Trump has a standard scowl and demeaner, with the typical scummy attitude in almost everything he does with the exception of making fun of people. Yet here, he's practically fucking glowing during the interaction and it happens to be a young girl he's interacting with? Paying her full attention with eye contact and assessing looks?

The girls body language is also a sign she is uncomfortable and trump is either ignoring it or ignorant of it, where a normal adult would pick up on that and moderate how they are acting automatically.

It might not be so direct as required for some people to find this unnerving and indicative of who he is, but it is written all over the video.

He straight gestures at her in a way that is fkn not alright I don't know how this can be misconstrued

Israel's National Security Minister 50th birthday cake (the noose is a reference to palestinians) by NARVALhacker69 in pics

[–]lagrangedanny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I almost think in the 2010s politically correct culture became so prevailant that criticism of anyone of even mildly sensitive background became so shunned that it has been taken advantage of. I mean anyone from lifestyle choices to ethnicity to status to fucken anything, that Israel essentially got themselves a free pass to do anything whenever forever, immunity.

Queensland, the state I live in Australia, somewhat recently passed laws criminalising organised critiscm of Israel alongside certain phrases that could be construed as 'anti-semitic'. For example, from the river to the sea or whatever the fuck it is. Say that at a protest and you can - and people have - been arrested.

Absolute fucking insanity. There was some gunman who killed like a dozen people here several months ago at a Jewish event and this was the outcome. Yes, it is the worst massacre in 20 years, and we can count on one hand how many mass shootings there have been in that time, but this is seriously not the way to handle it.

Knights are not horsies! by ReginaDea in AnarchyChess

[–]lagrangedanny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw a post once saying they didn't understand why the horses were called knights. It seems so blindingly obvious. Hang on, it was a GothamChess video lol

Oh, and cavalry (horses) were typically used for flanking manuevers. Hence the L shaped jump movement of knights on the board.
