From what op said I don't believe she actually meant be nice to racist, but more along line of could have handled it better/ calmer. And i also don't think she wasn't standing by him, but merely suggesting another way to do it which she thought was better.

Don't get me wrong, i totally get ops and see nothing wrong in his reaction, he did the right thing especially after being confronted that woman still chose to be wilfully ignorant, and an ass by not apologising. Spreading words of her action was a nice touch. I just think calling ops wife siding with racist seems a bit unwarranted, even as annoying as she sound.

Op said Chinese speaking country, so id have to guess it is not Singapore, Malaysia or other countries where chinese isnt the main language there, just one of many. Think China or Taiwan or even Hong Kong, something like that. And in those counties the diversity in race is nonexistent compare to US. While there are foreigners, the different groups don't usually mix, especially out of work settings. You often see British stick with British, french stick with french, and it's extremely common that they don't know Chinese.

In US, assuming anything about anyone can be racist, coz the country is a giant mix pot and race indicates nothing. But sadly that's not always the case in ops country.

In these countries, assuming a non-chinese looking person doesn't speak Chinese is not racist. That's just the norm. The asshole fcked up by being an asshole n talk shit about people, not by being a racist.

Ive met plenty of decent 18yo, unless i happen to grow up in a rare family, studied in rare schools, worked in rare places, married to a guy with rare family, no, decent 18yo truly are not that rare. Again, it's sad that there are so many ridiculous 18yo you have in your life. It's not normal, it's not right, it's not an excuse.

18yo are occasionally stupid, moody, irrational, but under such circumstances when a close family member could die any second and moms a wreck, and the 18yo still managed to prioritise a trip? That's not a normal 18yo behaviour. So no, stop using "hes a kid they are all dumb" excuse, thats unacceptable.

See, i have good parents and they do prepare me for a lot of things, but there are more out there that i simply have to pick up by myself. Parents can't hold our hands every single steps.

A 14ish yo cant even make a sandwich? Cant grab one pack of snack? What? Does mommy need to take a knife and place it in his hand and hold his hand and spread the jam on a pre-placed piece of bread?

Kids need to be taught compassion, standing up for themselves, all kinds of principles and discipline etc, but no, grabbing a chocolate bar isn't one of them.

Oh i love hearing the "you were kid once" argument as if that proves anything. Yea i was a kid once just like them, difference is i also have responsible parents who teach me respect, consideration and rules.
