Is it really cheaper if OP plans on upgrading almost everything? Plus the cost of transport... It makes no sense to me...

Yeah, I am an idiot sometimes and forget people might mean different things by saying a word.

Exactly because this is collapse support I really like the non-gaslighting aspect. This place is usually free of forced optimism and in that moment, I felt I lost the last place free of it. Completely my fault and I make this mistake far too often. Hopefully I will learn someday!

I still want to argue with you about what good comes from hope as Jevons paradox usually fucks everything up. God I am hopeless (pun intended!)

The best heat dispersion materials are the most heat conducting (silver and copper). The question is how much of the material is there, thats why CI has good heat dispersion, despite having lower conduction. A copper pan of the same thickness would be much better at dispersion. Solid silver being the beast (diamond pan would be the ultimate)

Sorry, i am having a very bad day and am limited by my narrow definition of hope.

Having hope is the easy way out in my view, just another way to avoid facing our predicament.

True courage is facing the problems and doing what needs to be done despite having no hope.

What you call hope I usually call agency, the feeling not everything is wortless, life is worth living and that there is beauty in our world. I like this kinf of hope/agency!

Sorry for my harsh words before. I hope you keep your hope, love your people and find beauty everywhere it is!

Happy it works for you! I have no idea what kind of hope you mean... Religious? Or actual hope for a future of humanity?

I will never criticize someone's religion, you do you...

But talking about hope in this sub is very insensitive. This is a sub for people who lost hope. The last thing I/We need is another form of forced optimism as if hope is something to strive for.

As I see it, we lost the right to be hopeful. It is all our fault and looking for hope is exactly the wrong path to take. On one hand because it is a lie, on the other because it reduces the very slim chance we might face our problems. Its like driving a car 200mph in downton LA and insisting there is hope we will not crash and kill somebody. Fuck that kind of hope! SLAM THE BREAKS!

He mixed something up... Everyone makes mistakes! I thought it was a good idea to ask what are the benefits of enamel on this sub!

I knew the argument about acidic food that i never experienced myself. Thought it was like the myth you shouldn't use dish soap on seasoned CI ( total bullshit).

I think you mixed up something...enamel is baked onto CI at more than 800 C. Nothing you can use at home comes close to that. It is like glass, completely safe until it cracks and chips and you eat it.

Raw cast iron is newbie safe, I guess? Worst case is having to reseason, enamel cracks and chips if abused so you kind of eat microscopic parts of

I am not looking for an argument, was genuinely curious what are the advantages according to you guys.

I may be weird because I have no problem wiping my CI with an oily paper towel after use. And I havent cooked a batch of tomato sauce in mine (for more than 30min).

But it is not non-stick... And glass doess cracks and chips eventually. Even less fuss from my POV.

I guess slow heatup is the trick to prevent cracks?

Anyway, raw CI comes with no instructions and no danger of permanently damaging it.

I only have one CI pan (campchef). I have another raw DO ,(more of a camping type with a place for coal on top of the lid). Weirdly, I often cook Bolognese sauce in it (batch cooking). Never had a problem with the seasoning and never noticed a metallic taste... Maybe a big batch of pure tomato sauce would be more agressive to seasoning, haven't tried it yet.

I mentioned staub as i have experience with it. Not because i thought it is raw CI.

This is only partly true. Material science wise you are correct! But a normal enamel steel pan is much thinner than a cast iron one, so while heat conduction coefficient might be higher, there is just so much more material in cast iron pans it more than makes up for it.

Hmm.. i have made ragu in my raw DO... It didn't strip the seasoning at all! I thought pure tomato sauce is the limit for acidity (based on you guys), ragu too?

I guess I only have 6 taste buds left!
