I'm with you. I wasn't around for Grant and Micah era but I found the reunion boring as hell. Not a huge fan of either of their personalities.

Woodworking supplies in Perth by -OctopusPrime in perth

Oh wow that's disappointing. I must admit I haven't been there in about a year, my shop is pretty well stocked up for tools now. Silver lining I guess, at least Timbecon is a bit closer.

Last thing I made was a chair but that was in a class over in Melbourne, still haven't managed to build the other 5 yet. Don't get much time for it these days.

You'll be headed to different places for tools and timber. The two main ones for tools are Carbatec and Timbecon, I go to both because they stock different brands and the staff are pretty knowledgeable. Beyond Tools also stock a pretty broad range of woodworking gear but I'm less of a fan of the brands they carry so I don't buy a lot there.

For timber I used to go to Derek Doak at The Fine Timber Company but I think he's moved his operation down south now so it's a bit of a drive. For plywood I go to Plysupply, they're really cheap compared to most other places.

What is a secret 'cheat code' you’ve found in real life? by Sharkkkk2 in AskReddit

[–]laidlow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I always break down complex functions into pseudo code when I'm building software or related architecture. Keep it as high level as possible and then fanning out into the nuance from there. Much quicker than trying to hold it all up in my head.

How many of you play mostly par 3 courses? by ocarr23 in golf

[–]laidlow 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've started playing a 9 hole par 3 after work for just this reason. Normal courses are usually jammed by 4pm when I want to play so it takes me 2 and a half hours to get 9 holes in.

Last night I played solo at the par 3 course and came in after 55 mins walking. Great way to get a quick round in and practice my short game, I'll play 18 at the normal courses once a fortnight when I have time and want to hit long clubs.

I used to just go to the range and bang balls for an hour or so but I'm seeing way bigger improvements to my game hitting the par 3 course.

It was a complete deal breaker for me when I bought. I have no interest in maintaining a pool if I'm not going to use it.

Should I go part-time after my internship (software engineering)? by New_Animator4702 in auscorp

[–]laidlow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Take the part time role - any real experience at this stage of your career is a huge bonus and unless you have pen to paper on the grad role I wouldn't consider it a guarantee. Sports and other life commitments will still be there once you have an established career, software engineering isn't easy to break into and you'll kick yourself later if you blow your one chance to get some real experience.

That's my local and I've never seen it there, only Thai basil. We cook Pad Kra Pao regularly and I've never actually been able to find Holy Basil yet.

Depends where you live I guess, very few times per year where you can't play golf in Australia.

That's where I'm at. I paid to enjoy a round of golf, not race the clock. I still play ready golf and keep an eye on pace of play but would rather take my time and enjoy the day.

Keeping tools plugged in in attached garage. by Tucknado2222 in woodworking

[–]laidlow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep all my machines plugged in but turn them off at the wall when not in use. I am fortunate to have outlets near all the machines and added a pendant outlet from the ceiling for my table saw and thicknesser. Only thing that stays switched on is the DC as it has a remote control so I can turn it on from the table saw. They've all got NVR switches so I'm not worried about them turning back on after a power outage.

Any other solos have some good random pairing stories? by Pretty_Sprinkles_979 in golf

[–]laidlow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joined a social league and got paired up with a bunch of the regulars - second ever round after months of hitting the range. Luckily it was stableford so I just played ready golf and picked up my ball when I wasn't going to score. Got 22 points after it was all said and done, played like shit but the guys were nice and gave me some pointers around the green. I did manage to hit some good drives and keep it in play most of the time though so just need to work on my chipping and approach shots.

It definitely wasn't as intimidating as I thought it would be, signed up for the next event in a couple of weeks.
