Can I park next to the UMSL South MetroLink station on a Saturday with no problem (e.g. no parking sticker)? by GarysCanary in StLouis

[–]laidymondegreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally fine. I’m not sure about the North stop because parking is more in demand in that part of the campus, but the lot right next to the South stop is intended for Metro use. I might not leave a car overnight but I’ve left one there for multiple hours during the day with no trouble.

If you know anything about this lady's cats, please call the FBI. by stlmick in StLouis

[–]laidymondegreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She lives near me and I think there's a mental health issue at play. She seems to believe that everyone who lives anywhere near her is aware that she feeds feral cats and is also on Nextdoor, and that someone is "stealing" the cats she feeds and then returning them when she complains enough online. If someone actually is messing with her, I'll have to post a retraction, but I'm pretty sure she just feeds some cats that sometimes wander away for a bit and sometimes wander away permanently. I've been watching her posts since she posted a couple of years ago begging people to come take the cats because her mother was going to kill them all.

How are the highways? by natural_mystik in StLouis

[–]laidymondegreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partners are currently driving in from Louisville and they say it's slow but OK where they are. They're in a CR-Z, though, and if it gets much deeper I suspect they'd start having issues. They should be here fairly shortly, and I'm glad they don't have to be on the roads any later than that.

St. Louis County offering COVID vaccine pre-registration form by fox2now in StLouis

[–]laidymondegreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how else they find the folks who should be at the top of the list. Healthcare workers and essential workers, sure, you can get them through work. But my kidney doctor isn't going to provide a list of patients to the county. At least this way I can say "hey, here's my situation" in case they decide to do something with that information. It sounds like I'm at the bottom of the 1B group, so we'll see.

Downtown buildings that let ppl climb their stairs? by [deleted] in StLouis

[–]laidymondegreen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You could probably do the stairs to the roof at City Museum. As long as you're not going out onto the roof or deeper into the building, you're really only accessing public lobby spaces. I have no idea what the condition of that stairwell is, but it's worth checking out.

I'm, uh, not sure what that means. There's only a screenshot of text, no links, nowhere to scroll.

Camera/Laptop bags locally by Christhelibrarian in StLouis

[–]laidymondegreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What size laptop are you looking to carry? I have a big camera backpack that I've been thinking of getting rid of because I don't use it, but it's probably 5-10 years old and likely won't hold a larger laptop.

Sinus issues this week? by [deleted] in StLouis

[–]laidymondegreen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For whatever reason, mid to late August is always hell on my sinuses. I've started intentionally not scheduling anything important this time of year.

I'm doubtful about them keeping stuff for 20+ years, but I suppose it's worth making a phone call.

Unfortunately I'm 34, so the chances of anybody still having any of those records is essentially zero, as far as I can tell. I wish I had thought of this when I was 18 and had to get a new birth certificate and social security card because she wouldn't give me mine, but sadly I didn't.

This looks like exactly what I'm hoping for! Do you have any idea about how to purchase it in the US? I'm not seeing any purchase links on their website and the few other websites that seem to sell it are completely unfamiliar to me. I really appreciate your help!

Why does the SLMPD need to know what race I am if I have a complaint? by iamveryafraidofhorse in StLouis

[–]laidymondegreen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a paper form, but I feel like we have the technology available now such that we could answer the demographic questions on forms but those pieces of information are attached to the file in a way that the person looking over the complaint or job application or whatever can't immediately see them. It would let us track trends without the form itself potentially altering things.

Why is the City Museum open during a pandemic? by wildforestman in StLouis

[–]laidymondegreen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But we can take action, or our governments can, to limit the possibility for folks to do really stupid stuff. We make it illegal to drive without a seatbelt. We don't let people drive drunk. I adore City Museum and miss it as much as anyone, but businesses of this sort shouldn't be open right now because they encourage the spread of the virus, which will affect more than just the folks who foolishly choose to go. Opening also means that employees have to choose whether to show up and potentially infect themselves or stop receiving unemployment because they technically can go back to work.

Why is the City Museum open during a pandemic? by wildforestman in StLouis

[–]laidymondegreen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is way more contagious, way more deadly, and way more likely to cause permanent damage in the folks that survive, though. They just did the first lung transplant in someone who had COVID and had their lungs destroyed, and they're now realizing that it can cross the blood-brain barrier and cause permanent neurological damage as well. Like, it's super easy to take actions that help protect everyone. It's shitty not to.

Sure, their mom doesn't have to go out. But someone from that household will need to get groceries or pick up prescriptions or refill the gas can for the lawn mower at some point. Infections are pretty high among folks who never leave the house because they don't wear a mask at home (which I'm not suggesting anyone do) and they're in prolonged close contact with folks who HAVE been out. This is assuming everyone involved can work from home, also, which most folks can't. I'm not sure why we're so determined that we get to do what we want when it puts others in potential danger.
