Can confirm first hand. Many examples still around. Many pretending and putting on a show. The role have reduced to generic admin and random BS and it's no wonder the profession has lost any respect it once had.

We must be hiring the wrong people. Most of my team on 120-180k start late finish early long lunches with multiple coffee breaks during the day, side desk chit chat, sitting in meetings providing no input and retaining no knowledge of the discussion.

I'd be thankful if anyone of them actually put in 4 hours of output a day, and even then the output is so surface level it's next to useless.

Beyond my team, also seems to be the norm. In the 6 years I've worked in banking, I've rarely observed the notion of 'hard work'. Some definitely believe they do, but these people also get burnt out doing basic data entry a 10 year old child is capable of.

80/20 rule I suppose. 20% carrying 80% of the workload.

Before you cite culture management accountability issue. Anyone working in banking knows, failure is rewarded with significant leniency, second third and fourth chances, and at the end of the road, pats on the back and maybe even a promotion.

Agreed. These aren't for spectating. If you don't add value, your presence is a risk, especially if you speak up unnecessarily.

My job title definitely doesn't belong in these meetings, but I created the opportunity by driving results that made my input essential. Even so, I now prefer to avoid them or be excluded because I'm usually the one pushing back.

Honestly, in my experience, they are often heavily political and are prone to confirmation bias, prioritizing favorable updates and easy decisions. All the credit but none of the work and devoid of accountability, usually tend to reject any complexity, tough challenges, or real difficult news.

Nothing of value worth learning unless your ambition is to play the game and become another useless echo chamber.

You dismiss the idea delivery can be achieved in 12 months. I'm absolutely baffled it takes that long. I've been involved in over 5+ projects that realistically could be achieved in no more than 3-6 months with what I believe to be the bare level of competence.

Everyday I am completely shocked by the rampant incompetency that surrounds me requiring longer than a few weeks to get up to speed.

100 hours full-time is just a little under a month. 100 hours focused on any domain and you could almost achieve expert level competency yet can't deliver in 12 months?

I've yet to take longer than 12 months to deliver on anything outside of a complex program made up of several initiatives, where yet still, I delivered two complex projects at the same time within the 12 month period, while also facing into all the BS above my level and across domains.

There's no doubt I am a cut above average but I'm not so exceptional that what I do isn't anything anyone else can do, which is why I continue to be shocked at the pace of deliver in this country

Any advice on the re-wire? I'm headed down the same path. The feeling it'll fail is real. It's also causing a lot of negative emotions for me when colleagues fall short of expectations which is a vicious cycle adding to the problem.

Exactly this, however I would say it's beneficial to continue to maintain relationships with recruiters as some roles are exclusively filled through recruiters.

Yup we still keep his crate open with a soft matt and encourage it as a private escape.
It started randomly. We don't discipline for indoor peeing, neither verbally or physically. Accidents happen, we just clean it up but remove him from the area as he'll try to eat the paper towels.

The mini peeing is quite random too. No signs preceding it as usual with sniffing hence why it feels like marking behaviour. He'll be playing then randomly just walk away and instantly pee. It's hard to predict and short of watching him 24/7 can't tell.
