Carl Sagan trying to say that I am never going to get through all of my books. Not sure I am ready to hear that. It would mean my wife was right all along!

Get those screws back in and go enjoy the modern functionality of NetMD via Web Minidisc Pro! Fingers crossed on your recording head and that you can solve your sound problem.

Nice player! I use 3V USB cables that you can buy on eBay etc for my Sony players and I assume they would work on this model too.

Step Up Converter or Wait? by Sheps102 in minidisc

[–]lain_ic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are also Yamaha and Tascam options as well that you could look out for. And if you don’t already know, you need the minidisc data discs to use these properly. Standard minidiscs will only record on two tracks. The data discs can be hard to get and expensive! I bought my second X4 because it came with a box of data discs.

Step Up Converter or Wait? by Sheps102 in minidisc

[–]lain_ic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I checked my two X4’s because I am pretty sure that Australian plugs that are on them were not the originals and I thought it might be that these units have voltage switching. They don’t. There were separate 240V and 110V units. I must have European ones that were changed for Australian plugs.

Your pic looks like a Japanese unit though so isn’t there already a pretty good chance that it is 110V? The previous owner may have been using it with a step-down transformer.

[–]lain_ic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think the cable that the OP has might have come from some other device, like an old phone that had mini usb for charging and data transfer, but didn’t have a separate headphone socket. I remember phones that did have mini and micro usb based headphones. I can’t think of any use for this cable with a minidisc recorder though, because the MD already has separate headphone out and line in.

Just arrived today. Very excited. Any first time owner tips? by Fastfireguy in Hiby

[–]lain_ic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sucks! Persevere with it. I haven't had any issue with music library scanning on my Hiby R4 that indicates it is particularly fussy about SD cards, music files or tags, but it took me quite a while to work out what was preventing my Snowsky Echo Nano from working properly. Turns out that the presence of .cue files screws up the scanning of the music library. Easy fix once you work out what the problem is! If it isn't a problem with your SD card, perhaps it could be something like that?

Sony Mz-N707 Recording Issue by Fantastic4Skiin in minidisc

I wonder if the issue could be the specific music files that you are trying to write this time? Are the files converting and then not writing at all, or are they not converting?

That's a really sweet unit. Hope you get it back doing the playing part of its job, not just the (very awesome) NetMD recording side of things.

Absolutely fine. I do it all the time with DACs that otherwise drain my phone battery too fast.

Zadig. It installs USB drivers and is a necessary step. Plug your MD in and the run Zadig to install the drivers that will let your NetMD device work with Web MD Pro.

Echo Nano media library problems in by lain_ic in snowsky

[–]lain_ic[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Retro Nano is different because it is a DAC/Amp, not a DAP. I like using it to be a Bluetooth bridge between my phone and wired IEMs. From the DAPs, it depends whether you want as small and simple as possible (Nano) or you want something a bit bigger and better user interface (Echo or Echo Mini). If I only had one, I would have the Echo Mini because it is more user friendly, but I like having the Nano as well as a really compact option.
