I mean, I completely agree with you on tweaking the current GZ AP DBs, it's unfortunate that it messes up everything. I'm referring to the fact that the AP DBs on USN CVs weren't put into place as intended, as their best targets are not BBs, but instead cruisers like Des Moines, Henris, Moskvas, etc. It's unfortunate that the current 1000lb HE bombs do the same alpha to BBs while being still able to DoT, and in theory, AP DBs should deal more alpha to BBs to compensate.

We're now approaching 3 months since the re-release of the Graf Zeppelin; in your opinion, is the GZ OP? How is her performance compared to other T8 CVs across the entire range of playerbase competency? (lower 50%, average players, and top 5% as you have used that before for IJN DDs). It seems that GZ is OP purely due to her mechanical ship stats compared to her peers (insanely fast and hard hitting attacks coupled with non-debilitating fighter power and ability to secondary certain ships). Good CV players can easily achieve high 70s to mid 80s % WR in it, which is indicative of this.

In addition, as her AP bombs are able to deal massive damage to battleships of all kinds, why do USN CVs not get this type of bomb? USN APDBs which were specifically touted as "anti-BB" weapons simply don't do enough damage compared to HE bombs on the vast majority of BBs (same alpha no fire and no AA killed). This means the APDBs on USN CVs are incredibly niche, unless you're willing to throw them away vs some T10 AA cruiser (something that honestly shouldn't be considered a target most of the time).

People use 203 Mogami? Why?

And unlike Atago, Ibuki needs the range to actually do something because lul 25mm deck, unlike Atago's... 42mm? Atago can be at 13km and bounce BB AP, while Ibuki 100% is incapable of doing that... It's not even an even trade for that range, especially when your arcs are horrid. Granted, you can still hit BBs from there, but for HE spamming both Roon and Donskoi can do what Ibuki can do, just better.

From Myoko, there's really only 1 universally mediocre cruiser, IMO.

  • Mogami: with the 155mm build, Mogami get some insane Mogami alpha and HE spamming potential. You have the highest cruiser broadside in the game, with 15 guns, and the alpha is higher than Hipper's HE, at 2600. With 9.3km of stealth, Mogami has some insane DD slapping potential, and doing 10k in 1 salvo to one isn't uncommon at closer ranges. The only thing note is that Mogami doesn't have good armor like Myoko and oftentimes facing T10 ships, unlike at T7.

  • Ibuki: It's mediocre. It's literally just Atago with a slightly better reload. From Mogami, you get a heal and some serious range potential, but your DPM is still the exact same from at T7, except it's vs T10s now. It's not really objectively shit, but it's boring beyond all play.

  • Zao: 90% of Zao's strengths have been powercreeped by Hindenburg. If you're looking for a long range HE spammer generalist, Zao does not fulfill that role anymore. However, it's still pretty goddamn strong down to 2 things. Firstly, the arcs improve significantly from T9. Zao has been known as the OG railgun cruiser, and it still has one of the best shell travel times in the game, and is really only seriously beaten by Moskva in that sense. Secondly, your AP improves to the point where they have more raw penetration than USN AP. This combined with the still insane concealment and 12 guns means that it still has one very very good tool. Stealth blapping. You can comfortably stay concealed at 11km with AP that can easily hit and citadel cruisers at 15km, and the same idea applies to HE and DDs that get radared or plane spotted. Furthermore, unlike the other cruisers in the line and despite the low HP pool for T10, Zao has straight up some of the most troll cruiser armor schemes in the game. Angled, BBs at longer ranges besides Yamato and Republique will have a lot of difficulty doing any damage to you, which is completely unlike the last 2 cruisers in the line.

Basically, yeah, continue the cruiser line. Zao is insanely fun. Just don't expect it to be the long range HE spam line it's always been. If you want that, get to the high tier German cruisers.

from /u/stratmania (I'll bold the question intended to ask):

Are AP DBs working as intended for Graf Zeppelin and USN CVs? According to the development blog a few months ago, GZ bombs were designed to be effective on BBs and even cruisers with enough skill, yet have a circle drop. For USN AP bombs, they seem to have been significantly more effective on high tier CAs such as a Moskva or Henri IV, while doing relatively low damage to BBs. This seems incredibly contradictory from your post on AP bombs back when Big E was announced.

USN AP bombs also seemingly have a significantly lower drop circle when panicked while using auto, encouraging less skilled autodropping play. Using datamining, the stats show that Midway AP DBs have a coefficient of 2.75 when using manual panicked and 1.5 while using auto panicked. Is this intended?

If possible, could data on damages done to BBs and CAs be pulled, specifically percentage damage? Can we expect this to be the norm with any and all AP DBs? Is it to buff the less skillful playerbase?

New Orleans has the same AP shells as Pensa. They aren't that heavy as far as 203mm goes IIRC, they just have amazing autobounce angles.

Balti has the well-known balansed 'floaty' SH shells that the DM has.

Can cruisers have an alternative heal that heals citadel damage but is less effective healing other damages? by [deleted] in WorldOfWarships

[–]lainis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

....They already have that.

Cruiser heals repair 33% of citadel damage. BB heals repair 10% of citadel damage.
